The food is decent. The atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired. But, it is really the only game in town for Mexican food.

We ate dinner at a very busy time, and the staff seemed insufficient for the number of patrons eating. While the food was very, very good; drink refills were hard to come by. Pleasant and courteous staff -just overworked. Will try it again and hope that additional help is available.

Yummy but typically enormous American-sized servings. I only managed the free chips and delish salsa and some of my entree. Very good value!

We all loved this place - everything was so fresh and perfect. The chips and salsa are delicious! The prices were really reasonable too. It was great for kids as well. Put this on your list!!!

If you look at my reviews, you will see that I eat in a *lot* of Mexican restaurants, and I have tried them all over the U.S. It is pretty unlikely that one of the better ones would be in New Hampshire -- and yet, it's true.

El Jimador does have the stereotypical burrito-taco-enchilada plates, but they are all tucked away in a "Traditional" section in a corner of the menu. The large selection includes many, many dishes of all sorts, organized by chicken, beef, pork, seafood, etc. The big menu runs eight pages.

I had a dish of shrimp and scallops over rice with a red sauce and guacamole salad, and my wife had a dish with big chunks of pork in a green sauce with beans, rice and tortilla. Both dishes were very good. They also serve chips and salsa, and the salsa was quite good -- not overly spicy. Without alcohol and tip, the tab was less than $30.

The dining room is quite large -- I imagine it is hopping during summer season -- and the service attentive. There was no pressure to add appetizers, drinks or desserts. The staff seems genuinely ethnic.

We missed El Jimador on our first pass -- heading toward Laconia, it is on the right in a little plaza ("Somethingorother at Belmont") that is up above road level, diagonally across from a bar called Shooters. It is about a mile north of the Winnisquam bridge.
