“A Great Tahoe Find!”
Reviewed January 21, 2014

My family and I were looking for a nice place to eat in Lake Tahoe one evening. I had called the hotel concierge and he recommended a place that sounded pretty nice. It should go unmentioned in this review. After the reservation was made, I was curious and looked at their website and I saw the prices they were charging in dismay. This triggered an unusual event: the first time that I have ever cancel a reservation for a restaurant because of their prices.

For options, I consulted both Trip advisor and Yelp and found that a lot of restaurants had the same astronomical prices, except Latin Soul. Most reviews are right on the money: this place is inside of a not-so-glamorous casino so expect nothing fancy (more like dicey!) in atmosphere.

However, from the delicious free chips and salsa, to the arepas, to the cochinita pibil, this cuisine was quite surprising. The variety of items in the menu from different regions of the Americas is amazing and from what we tried, everything was just delicious. On top of it, the prices were very reasonable. So, a rare find in the mist of limited dinner choices in Tahoe. Can't wait to go back!

“You would never expect this just by walking by”
Reviewed December 25, 2013

Latin Soul occupies a small corner on a smoky casino basement floor. There's nothing upscale about the decor. From the outer look and location, it could be a small coffee shop to keep gamblers awake. Well, it isn't.

Although listed among Mexican restaurants in most guides, it's quite a bit wider than that, some Mexican, some Cuban, and some South American. Our party had some classic Mexican dishes, a stuffed pork chop, a steak, and a seafood cebiche. They brought chips and salsa, but the chips were mixed in with fried plantains and the salsa had a dollop if delicious hummus in the middle.

Everything we tried was very good and the portions were very large. Prices were fairly low for a resort area, about $20/pp including tax and tip for a large, excellent meal. This place really sells itself short with its location, it's completely underwhelming when you first see it, if you even see it.

The only negative is the smoke from the casino. It's not terrible, but it is present as it wafts into the restaurant somewhat.

Other reviewers used terms like "hidden gem" and I agree.

“Great Latin Food; Reasonably Priced; Artfully Prepared”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

When I mentioned to a friend while driving around Lake Tahoe that I was interested in Mexican food, he said, we've got to go to Latin Soul restaurant. His advice was excellent. We had a superb meal; all hand-made salsas, perfectly seasoned food, and well balanced flavors--not the heavy over-cumin spicing you get in so many places. The food was artistically arranged on the plate and I enjoyed the variety of sweet, savory, acid, and richness that were part of this meal. I would most definitely stop here again. But, in order to find the restaurant, you'll need to look for the Lakeside Inn Casino. The restaurant is in a corner in the bottom of the hotel, and not easily found, but definitely worth the stop.

“Great Gem!!”
Reviewed October 29, 2013

If you can get past the Lakeside Inn (kind of old & small), you will love this restaurant. Service was great. The menu selection was hard because everything sounded so good. My husband had the goat barria (tasted like lamb) & I had the Mediterranean beef steak quesadillas. Very fresh ingredients & great flavors. Salsa & chips - yummy!! There was hummus in the salsa & I will be trying it @ home.
