Food was good as always as was the desserts. However, we were a party of five crowded onto a table of 4 which is slightly too small for 4.

They have a DJ every night. The locals tend to go there and have a good time on the weekends.

If you like Honey Walnut prawns at Panda Express you will absolutely love them at Trader Dicks because they are 10x better than Panda Express. My husband had the steak and honey walnut prawns and I had the mongolian beef. You can just taste the difference in the quality of the beef compared with the average Asian restaurant (and we eat at a lot of them). The decor is tropical and the mood romantic. The huge bar length aquarium is impressive. The service was excellent. Priced right.

If you want Chinese food, or a steak, or seafood, or just a drink, go to Trader Dick's. In the 1980's and 1990's, the Polynesian menu was superb. There was no question about it.

For some reason, in the 2000's, management changed and the menu changed, regrettably, with lower quality Polynesian and Chinese food. The actual Polynesian recipes which had been a stable changed. Also, gone was the outstanding fresh bread which was brought to your table. (You still get bread with dinner, just not the fresh bread loafs which were loved by fans)

However, the food is still good and depending on your server, the service is also good.
The steaks are very good.
They opened up part of the restaurant so unfortunately, instead of a quiet atmosphere with soft Hawaiian music playing, like it used to be, now, you sometimes hear loud obnoxious music from the dance floor near the restaurant or sometimes loud obnoxious noise from the drunks at the bar. So, ask for a quiet table near the back.

I think it is still a good experience and good food. I just wonder why the recipes were changed in the last 10 years by management when the original recipes were so popular.

The baked Alaska seemed smaller than it used to be.

I hope management adds back the traditional menu. The Cashew chicken used to be incredible. I also remember the managers would always come to your table and converse, now, that does not happen. The Nugget is a great place to pick for a night out. I would give Trader Dicks an excellent rating IF they fixed the noise problems by adding a sound wall between the restaurant and the bar/dance floor and brought back the bread and original Polynesian menu from the 1980's and 1990's.
