Definitely felt welcome & appreciated more at Sands than any other casino / hotel. Best promotions all around. We highly recommend Sands over other Casino / hotels in Reno. Large, comfortable, clean rooms with all the perks. Clean & efficient floor plan of casino floor. Good food & fantastic prices. Pool, hot tub, massages, & fitness centerall available for everyone's enjoyment. Sands is the only Casino / hotel that offers a complimentary weekend VS others weekdays only, & we all know that makes a huge difference in appreciation. Thanks again Sands.

We had a very pleasant experience this weekend. We belong to the A Players club and receive special comps. It was a business/birthday trip. We will stay there over and over again. Rooms clean and comfortable, wifi is not free, but available. The casino gives free drinks at the slots. The Copa restaurant was excellent.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the tower next to registration. Don't have to drag your bags through the casino.

Let me start by saying that if you are used to Vegas and Tahoe casino hotels, you will be probably be disappointed. Reno is no Vegas. The room was clean and comfortable, but a bit dated. The casino was okay. The dealers were friendly and the drink service at the tables was speedy. We tried two of the on-site restraunts. Copa was affordable and had average food. Mel's had good prices and the food was much better. Parking at the hotel was free.
We walked to some of the other casino hotels during our stay. The area around the hotel was a little scary. If I had it to do over again, I would stay somewhere else. Silver Legacy and El Dorado seemed a little nicer. The casinos there had a bit of a better ambiance and you could easily get from one hotel's casino to the other by an indoor walkway instead of having to walk the sketchy Reno streets.
If all you're looking for is a cheap place to crash and a place to gamble, then this place may be for you. If you want a little more, look elsewhere.

We stay at the Sands passing through Reno on our way out to and back from camping in Nevada. Rooms are clean, spacious and pleasant, if a bit dated. The staff is very pleasant and helpful, although checkin can be a bit slow at times. Easy access to I80 and downtown, the location is great. Parking is free and the outdoor parking lot is patrolled regularly and under TV surveillance. We didn't worry about parking our camper out in the lot at all. Getting through the casino can be a bit trying for a non-smoker, but it ends there; the non-smoking rooms don't smell at all. Breakfast at Mel's Diner, located in the hotel, was very good. We were travelling with a small dog and they are dog friendly; there was a $10 or $15 pet fee.
Overall a very good experience, and inexpensive, even by Reno standards, if you book one of the internet specials. The only real negative was the "no coffeemaker in the room" noted by another reviewer (although there was free coffee at the counter by the elevator on the ground floor)

The Sands is an overall good place to stay. Clean friendly and if you have a problem the staff is eager to solve it. The rooms are not decorated high end, modern, or any of that sort, but what you do get is cleanliness, staff that is on call and ready to be of service, and a comfortable place to sleep. Overall I would much rather be comfortable then decorated!

Room Tip: I always choose the Dynasty tower it is just a better experience.

Overall, my wife and I were pleased with this hotel and hotel room. We stayed
seven nights and had a room on the 15th floor of Empress tower overlooking
the mountains and I 80 to the west. Several observations:
1. no coffee maker in room, but yet they had a hair dryer (I'd gladly have the
former than the latter)
2. yes, they have wifi available and the download time is decent, but pricey at
$10 for 24 hrs. I beleive they should include free wifi in the price or reduce
the price to $5/24 hrs.
3. Mels Diner at front of hotel has good food and nostalgia of the 50's. Getting
there through the casino is unpleasant if you are a non smoker. The casino
smells of cigarette smoke.
4. Seafood buffet on Friday, especially the salmon, was excellent.
5. The streets outside are relatively safe, and you are a short walk to riverwalk.
6. Parking is free and convenient on the side of the hotel. Security for parking lot
is non existant, but I don't believe it's necessary.
7. Front desk was helpful and pleasant, as was mgmt when I addressed a pet concern.
