I've been to Reno several times in the past few years on business and for pleasure, I usually prefer the Silver Legacy or El Dorado which are both connected to Circus Circus. A last minute family spring break detour took us through Reno. The usual hotels were all booked and Circus Circus had available rooms so we booked one while on the road.
The price was very fair for a one night stay on a Saturday. I was expecting the worse but hoping for the best. After we left the check-in counter we were sent into a maze to the hotel tower which included navigating stairs with our luggage. When we got to elevator there was line of approx. 40-people waiting for one of the six elevators. I asked the guy in front of me if there was a problem with the elevators and he said "no" just a lot people waiting for slow elevators.
When we arrived at the room I was pleasantly surprised for the $100 we paid for the room. I could tell the hotel had done some updates but it really was lip stick on a pig at this point, considering this is the same hotel my parents stayed at in the 1970's. The room was clean, it didnt smell, and the tv worked well. I've stayed at hotels for a lot more money and couldn't say those words.
The Midway is a money hole but the kids like the games and they usually can win a good sized stuff animal for $20.
We ate at the American Cafe for breakfast and it was pretty standard food but the service was good.
I would stay at Circus Circus again if the situation like the one we found ourselves in came up but if I had time on my side I would spend the extra cash and stay at the Silver Legacy or El Dorado.
