“Clowning Around at Circus Circus”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

We decided to take a trip to Reno and Virginia City for my birthday. We don't do a lot of gambling so we planned to do some site seeing resulting in our spending only a little time at the hotel. In any case, we reserved a room in the tower for two nights. When we arrived on a Saturday evening, the line to register was LONG... If you're a VIP (high roller) you get special treatment, of course, but as I said we don't gamble much, so we waited with the masses... About 20 to 30 minutes to get to the front of the line and check in. As others have commented upon, there was a flight of stairs one needed to maneuver to get to the tram/shuttle for transport to the tower. Once upon a time, the lobby area of the tower used to be a small casino with some gaming tables and slot machines - with the introduction of gaming at Indian casinos in California, those days are long gone, and so is the attention to customer service and satisfaction. Not all of the elevators in the tower were operating which made them quite crowded at times. As far as the room goes, I was quite happy. It appeared to have been refurbished rather recently. Clean carpet, bedding, wallpaper, furniture, etc. There was a small coffee maker, toiletries, and internet access was provided. The housekeeping service in this particular room was above average for Reno. I must say I was pretty happy with the guest room; the rest of the facility; not so much. All in all, it was inexpensive and I would do it again if I had reason to visit the area.

Room Tip: 14th floor in the tower has great housekeeping staff...

I make the reservations for a large group of Air Race fans from across the US and overseas for an entire week. Circus Circus has been our choice for the amenities they offer as well as the ease to get to Stead Field, the race site. The only "complaint" is that there is no room service during evening hours. Many of us would like to eat, then relax before an early bedtime, since we start our days so early. CC is really a "one-stop-shopping" ploace to stay - everything under one roof.

Room Tip: Choose an East facing room, so that your room is cooler when you return late in the day.

We wanted a quick cheap place to stay in Reno with the kids on our way to Utah National Parks. It was last minute so even though we had stayed here a few years ago we decided to give it another try. They must have redone the rooms since the last time we were there. Everything looked new and clean (smelled clean too). The kids enjoyed the mid way. It worked out great. Bed were comfy too.

I read through some of the reviews here at Trip Advisor and wondered if the place was as awful as some people indicated it was. It was for that reason that I was very pleased with our room after I had a chance to enter it. The clerk at the desk gave us a really nice, really big corner room in the North Tower. Our room was 1001, if you think you'd like this room. The room was long and the setup was a little different from the other rooms on the floor. Here's how everything was for us:

Check-in: We arrived in town at 11:00 am and they let us check in. I wasn't feeling well, so I was very happy with that. It was Saturday, and the line was kind of long, but the man at the desk was quick and cheerful as he checked us in. I don't know why, but they only seemed to have one person checking people in. My important check-in tip: Be sure you check in during the morning, because later on the line got to be a lot longer!

The room: comfortable, king-sized bed; granite countertop in the bathroom; comfortable wooden desk and chair; coffee table and armchair; old-style TV, but it worked well; shower with low shower head, but with great water pressure; nice view of the mountains through the window; and circus themed picture on the wall. There was free wi-fi. You can get a faster speed if you pay $2 extra, but we used the free wi-fi. The room was nice and clean.

The employees were extremely friendly and good-humored. There is a lot for the kids to do in the games area. We were given some free coupons for staying at the hotel, which we used. We also got to play in the slot tournament just for staying in the hotel. The buffet was about average, not great, not bad. If you are used to Las Vegas buffets, this one might not please you. We got scratch-off tickets at the buffet, which allowed us to get some free slot play.

Would I stay here again? Absolutely! This room was easily as good as the one we stayed in last year at El Dorado, and it was bigger.

Was disappointed in the room. Walked in and the tv was on and a half eaten sandwich was there - assume the maids were having lunch there since the room was at the end of a long hallway. Air conditioning made a strange noise and the auto function didn't seem to work. We were there on a Sunday and a lot of things were closed (restaurant, snack bars, etc). TV in room only got a few channels and a couple of those didn't work. Coffee pot only made one cup at a time. Did get a good price on the room so it wasn't too bad. Disappointed that there was no pool for a family hotel.

The price was good, but if you have bags to lug around make sure you stay in the main hotel not the sky tower. They have a shuttle that accesses the sky tower, after you ride the escalator, then manuver a flight of stairs. There are lifts for handicap, really out of the way. We walked for a distance trying to find an elevator (signs were there but hard to find), finally found one at the far end of the casino, completely out of the way. Like I said if you have bags or are handicapped ask for a room that is NOT in the SKY TOWER. When I mentioned it to the front desk at check out the "man" at the counter, started arguing with me about it. Terrrible customer service. Sorry would suffice.
We have stayed here in the past, but won't any more. The sky tower room was not clean enough. Found hairs on the bathroom counter and it appears they never clean the vents or the perimeter carpet area. Heavy dust on both. I actually wiped down the bathroom vent and am sending the "yuck" to the manager.

Room Tip: Don't do Sky Tower!!!

I just got back from a weekend at Circus Circus, we stayed on the 8th floor of the Sky Tower the room was very clean and the beds were actually pretty comfortable. My only complain would be the elevators it seemed that only 4 out of the 8 elevators were running, the lines at times were long to get one. I did not eat at their Buffet as i had it once and once was enough, however the cafe next to it had amazing bakery items great for the middle of the night snacks. Downside to this property that there is no Pool, you can use the silver legacy pool if you want for $15 per person. They really need a pool or 2 at this place.

Room Tip: Try staying in the main tower of the casino to avoid the tram and over crowded elevators.
