“AVOID AVOID AVOID - This place is awful”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2008

Visited 12/12/2008 and had the worst experience ever.

Let me begin by saying I am certain the place is just minutes away from closing. The service, food and scams have run their course and now its time to pay the piper.

Last evening we dined with only a single other table occupied in the entire place. The owner and his daughter were the only ones working and the whole experience stunk.

We ordered garlic naan (dry - flavored with garlic powder), and two vegetarian combination dishes. That, along with 2 beers was over $70!!

The food was below average, and I'm being kind.

What was especially troubling is that the restaurant contracted with Restaurant.com and sold vouchers for $25 off the meal of at least $35. Well we PURCHASED a voucher and upon presentation, were informed they no longer accepted them. WHAT??? Its equal to purchasing a gift card and being told, we don't honor our own gift cards any longer.

Anyway, the place stinks, the food is awful and the service is the worst. Avoid it at all costs and if you are in the mood for good Indian food in Reno, head over to India Kabob and Curry near Vassar Street and South Virginia. Its hands down better food and atmosphere.

“A GREAT Indian Restaurant in Reno, NV”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2007

An extremely good Indian restaurant - for any city - and especially in Reno. My family and I visited Chutney on 12/29/07 and had a terrific meal. Shrimp Masala, Chicken Jalfrezi, Chicken Kebob, of course Naan bread (Peshwari - with fruit and plain) and a special made Aloo Saag (spinach and potatoes). This meal, along with two beers, came to $72.
The Jalfrezi and Masala were absolutely fantastic, lovely spices, aromatic and about a medium heat. Naan breads were great, soft and perfect for savoring more of the lovely sauces.
The Aloo Saag was a little over Spinachy without the balance of potatoes as we would normally find, but this isn't on their menu and was done as a special request, so perhaps they weren't used to preparing it. The chicken kebob was a bit dry - but very typical for this dish - just not to our taste.
We will absolutely be back to this restaurant. If you're at all nervous about trying Indian food - don't be - this place is a very good restaurant, nicely decorated clean, lovely friendly staff and pleasant dining atmosphere. If you are a fan of Thai food and have never tried Indian cuisine before, definitely give this one a try.
