We miss the big Somoan, Sunny. He is such a nice man, always smiling, great mood, and cooperative with everyone. Our first impression was a good one. It has been said that everyone should make good first impression because that is what everyone always remembers. He was a real asset to the Grand Sierra Resort. So please bring Sonny back.

Room Tip: Book early.

For my wife and I, our room was very comfortable and well-appointed. the bathroom was liek something we would see on Bath Crashers on DIY network. Marble-like floor, big sink, and TV. The beds were comfortable. The staff was very helpful, and many services were included in the price.

Judging from other reviews, there might have been some confusion about the rooms. the basic room is $69/night. For $99/night we got a fridge and microwave nd saved a boatload on food. The fridge nicely accomodated a couple of six-packs and a bottle of wine. Oh yes, and sandwich makings, too.

Our room overlooked the lake and parts south. I think they used to have boat races on the lake but not now. The pool and spas were right below our room. One night they had a fashion show, and the pounding of the music was very evident even in our room on the 18th floor. the big disadvantage for us is the organization of the hotel. It is essentially a central tower with three spokes. the rooms are in the spokes, and if you are at the end of the hall, you are in for a bit of a trek. We were wondering if we were going to need a faithful Indian guide to find our room.

The gambling is for over-21's, of course. There are shows. Joan Rivers came the week after we left. There is a theater (the family films are scheduled for 4 PM with the more grown-up fare running at about 7 PM), a 24-hour bowling alley. the restaurants range from Round Table Pizza to the posh Charles Parker Steak House (they had tablecloths on the tables, always a sure sign of an expensive meal).

There is a small park outside the front where we sat and caught the afternoon breezes. Al in all, we enjoyed the GSR very much. Next time, we will ask for a room closer to the tower.

We stayed there for the Elks National Convention. When we arrived on Friday, July 12th, one of the three elevators to our floor did not operate - it wasn't fixed until the following Monday! With over 2,000 people there, the elevators were terribly slow. Room was just OK. It is not near downtown, so we had to drive to get to anyplace.

Everything was going well during our stay until we went to bed. The bed was terrible.
I have to say the food was good at the different restaurants in the hotel. All our meals were good.
Check in was good, the pool was nice, all was well except the bed. The most important part of a hotel stay is rest, it basically what your paying for is a BED, if that sucks it detracts from everything else.

Room Tip: The bed is something you do not find out about until you go to bed, our bed sucked. Do all their b...

The RV park was basic, but quiet and the bathrooms were nice and clean. We basically just slept their because there was so much to do during our stay. We used the casino, the movie theater, the video arcade, and the pool and enjoyed all of them. We joked that we thought perhaps they just needed to drop the Grand from their name for the time being while they remodel. It doesn't have the grandeur of Vegas Resorts or even other Reno resorts. We checked out Atlantis and Circus Circus while we were there and our kids still said The Grand Sierra was their favorite. If traveling in an RV we would stay here again. I'd like to see what it looks like when they are finished remodeling. Right now it feels like you are entering thru the back door when you come from the RV park and you enter the dark level where they have their shops and all the activities for the kids. I overheard employees talking more than once about the what they were planning for decor and it appears they are putting in a spa.

We stayed two nights at this hotel, after staying at another hotel for three nights. We were disappointed that we changed hotels. The rooms were clean and recently redecorated which was nice. The king room we were in was very spacious. The room was not well insulated and we could hear kids loudly in the room next to us. Our room overlooked the pool area which ended up being very noisy; music and people screaming till 11 pm! The room amenities were sorely lacking. The towels were old, thin and felt like sand paper. The soaps and creams were cheap and did not smell very good nor did the soap lather!! The beds were average and the bed linens just okay. There was no hotel book describing the various restaurants, activities, etc and there was no " do not disturb" sign for use. Our room was not made up and cleaned until 4 pm..rather late. Very frustrating. The restaurants were average. Did not like the pool area. Large pool/ hot tub, yes. No umbrellas unless you paid to rent a cabana. Lounge chairs plastic and very uncomfortable. This is a place filled with families, kids, softball teams, etc. so if you're looking for a relaxing getaway, this is NOT the place to stay. We will not be returning to this hotel.

Spent a couple nights at the Grand Sierra. Love that the check in area is near a casino...but non smoking! Great room. Food was pretty good. Pool was great. Family loved it. Whenever we go to Reno, will try to stay here.
