There are so many lovely hotels in Reno. Why even bother going to Grand Sierra. It's not so grand. Buffet was not good either.

We have stayed here twice. Both times at the beginning of May, 2011 & 2012. We paid the extra for a 'Summit' room. Not sure what the extra was for. The first room had what appeared to be black electrical tape around the edges of the night stands and desk. The room had seen lots of hard use. The refrigerator was misnamed as it was really a freezer and ruined all of our food.

And, watch out for the surprise 'resort fee'. This they add on for the use of the exercise room, which we never even saw and a bottle of water. Keep the water and give me my money back.

If this were not the hotel where the convention we go to is held we would never stay here. When my husband called to ask about the charges on our credit card bill, after leaving him on hold for 10 minutes they were rude to him. Not a good way to run a business.

We often stay at this resort mid-way through our road trips and we have never been disappointed. The rooms are clean, spacious, and quiet. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in this family-friendly environment, as well as many activities for youngsters. We didn't notice the remodel that other reviewers mentioned. We pay attention to the comfort in our room, and it it has always been spot on. Keep up the good work GS!

I stayed here for business this past week and was thrilled. My room was under $50 a night and I must have gotten a free upgrade to a room with a microwave and refrigerator. The hotel is very close to the airport so I didn't bother to rent a car. This turned out to be a great choice, because the GSR has a lot of meal options right on the property. I ate at the buffet, the sushi bar, the 2nd Street Express, Cafe Sierra and Johnny Rockets. All of the dining experiences were good and prices were pretty reasonable.

As others have noted, the decor is a little off-beat (bordering on tacky). My room had a giant "Alice in Wonderland" chair that was upholstered in fake, white alligator skin. I can't imagine sitting in a chair like that to relax - ever. Bathroom was entirely dark granite and lighting was very dim. Keep in mind that I am older, so this decor might really work for someone younger and hipper. Bed was very comfortable and linens were very nice. Free Internet, in-room coffee was good, and free bottled water is provided daily.

Overall this is a great place to stay and I couldn't get over the value for the price. Will definitely come back and recommend to others!

I recently stayed at GSR and the casino was being renovated making it brighter and more contemporary. The hotel room I stayed at was in the Summit Tower, a little bit more money but well worth it. The room was newly decorated form my last stay a year ago, much brighter and hallways were bright and new as well.
The restaurants were great. i stayed three nights and ate at Charlie Palmers Steak, their Italian restaurant and the Asian one. Charlie Palmers was what I expected, a great steak and service, the Italian was good food and good value. The Asian was excellent.
I also ate tin the buffet for lunch and it very good. I really liked the new mexican restaurant, but I only had drinks there but it was fun as they poured tequila shots on a barber chair to anyone brave enough to try.
The overall place is large and it has lots of space and amenities....bowling, outdoor pool a country western bar, the best sports book and Johnny Rockets. There was also a new lounge that was very modern and had lots of people dancing.
Overall, it was a rest place and for the price of the room, it was outstanding.
Overall, the service was good

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Summit Tower..all new and spacious suites.
