I have stayed at the the GSR a few times and each time I said I probably wouldn't go back. Well this last time my sister wanted to go and take her son and the rates were cheap so I agreed to go with. Now normally I would not consider a casino a family attraction, but this casino is different. It truely is a resort, not a top notch resort though. The rooms are decent but if you get a suite I think they are a lot nicer, however they are a lot pricier. The reason I say this place is good for families is because they have the arcade, the amusement park type attractions, the aqua golf, movie theatre, jungle gym thing, bowling alley, shopping downstairs, a nice gym, a full service salon, and an outdoor pool that has a sand area so it looks like a beach. I think they even have pet rooms, so there is pretty much something for every family member. Then there is the casino. Which in my opinion is all glitz but has no real appeal. It seems really small and I just don't really like gambling there. Call me old fashion but I actually prefer the small time casinos downtown such as the Cal Neva or the Circus Circus. The people just seem more down to earth and I like that better. So if you are going to Reno and want a damn cheap room sign up for GSR's email alerts and they pretty much give the rooms away. And with all of the activities that there are to do I think you can make a decent trip out of a not so fabulous destination. Oh and the beds are really comfy at GSR....

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the last 3-4 years. We always stay in one of the summit rooms (the renovated newer rooms which do cost a bit more). They are very chic and modern. Sometimes they feel too dark as the decor is like a black/dark chocolate color.

They have many activities in the hotel itself. There are a ton of restaurants there too. This last trip we got a couple of drinks at the bar in the middle of the casino and found them to be reasonablly priced.

Definitely woudl recommend this place and can't wait to stay here again.

What's amazing about the hotel is that it is like a self-enclosed city, with restaurants, movies, bowling, riverside location, views, spaciousness. I think the only drawback would be the carpeting and paint scheme in the floor hallways -- the green and red elevator doors are hallucinogenic. Overall, it is less a casino and more like a entertainment resort, but not quite completely there yet. Very lively and lots of energy. By far the best value in Reno or even Lake Tahoe. The location on the Truckee River is really great.

Excellent hotel and a great bargain. The pool area is the best I've seen. There are all kinds of fast food and nice restaurants to pick from. Great for a family. Clean and quiet rooms. Arcade for the kids, mini golf, go carts. Dog friendly.

Casino filled with smoke that works its way everywhere. OK gambling. Decent restaurants. So So service. Small pool area with little shade.
Nothing to write home about.

Front desk was helpful and ungraded us to a river view room. It was a fantastic room, clean, beautiful view, and has a convenient location to all the hub bub of the city yet was quiet place to stay. Casino was pleasant and less smoky than others. We would stay again.

A nice hotel not to far from downtown and the airport. A very nice pool it has a theme of the beach a big pool and a nice jacuzzi. Pretty good views (some parts of building). The regular rooms are roomy and mostly clean. The shower needs a redo. Hallway looks like Aztec art. They have a star bucks and cafe at bottom. Also a health room. There is a fee of $11 for two water bottles, wifi, and acess to health room and spa. The wifi works but somtimes takes a while to work and you might have to restart it. For me it didn't work at night. The staff was very nice. All in all it is peretty good for the money
