“Yee haw!”

Reno Rodeo Cattle Drive
Reviewed March 5, 2013

The Reno Rodeo is a blast for people of all ages. There is bull riding, wrangling, riding, etc. as well as a full carnival and all sorts of food and beverages. There is even a firework show towards the end. Cowboy hats are not requried, but are highly encouraged.

If you have not been to a Rodeo, this one is fun, relaxed and All American. Very patriotic with good local people enjoying a summer night.

It is just a lot of fun. Rarely, does the West live up to what most people think of, when they think of the Wild West. The Cattle Drive is an example of how the West was won.

I signed up with my 18 year old niece as she just graduated and I wanted her to have a memorable milestone before college. The trip was truly amazing and started with a gunfight in Doyle then off to the first campsite. We stayed in our bedrolls and shared a tent. After pitching our tents we checked out the horses and rode a bit. Saw three rattlesnakes that appeared non-threatening..I was assigned Blaze, a horse that had spirit and stepped out. Blaze I later discovered was a real cow horse and enjoyed nipping the tails of slow steers.....perfect. Jett however was a bit on the slow side. We were assigned to Teal Team and bonded with our teammates during the cow-boy and cow-chip olympics.
Our evenings were spent out under the moonlight and stars..Nv has beautiful sunsets and we wern't dissapointed. Real roughing it camping and pack up your own stuff. Dont overpack and if your afraid of getting dirty and dusty dont come. Lots of traveling toilets and a portable washing sink. The food was gourmet western style and abundant..Home made dutch oven biscuits and healthy option for those health minded. The traveling saloon was also a high point after a long day on the dusty trail. Wranglers were knowledgable and entertaining. My niece learned the value of tent ettiquette. " The tent gets packed up before breakfast and cleaned before dinner"..
Elizabeth wrote and recited a poem she wrote about the west during talent night .
The next day we rode our last last ride into the Reno Rodeo stadium...we were both a bit sad as we would both miss Blaze, Jett and those cattle calls.

If you've ever had a yearning to go back in time and live the dream of being a cowboy, then DO NOT miss the Reno Rodeo Cattle Drive. Sitting in the saddle for five days driving 300 head of cattle 100 miles will certainly help make your dream come true. Everything from the strict dress code (cowboy dress only), the incredible food that is prepared out on the range, live cowboy entertainment every night, falling asleep under the stars being serenaded by coyotes, no cellphone service, and the dirt you will accumulate out on the trail, although showers are available for the city slickers unable to make the complete transformation, will ride with you on into Reno to deliver the herd to the Reno Rodeo.

The people at every level, from the administrative offices all the way to the wranglers who keep all us 'yahoos' safe and learning the cowboy way are 'Top Drawer'. This experience gets an A++ from this cowboy wanna be!!!!
