I appreciated this museum's temporary exhibits, inspite of its very skimpy permanent collection.I enjoyed their informative exhibit of Egyptian Antiquities ,including works from Egypt's Pre-Dynastic Period,Old and New Kingdoms,Roman Period, and Ptolemaic Period.I saw steles, reliefs, coffins, mummies, and weapons.I also liked their exhibit of works by Contemporary artist,Chris Jordan, especially his"Cans Seurat".I also enjoyed their exhibit of insect drawings by Donald Farnsworth.Even though the permanent collection was very small,I saw fine paintings by;Carl Frieseke,Maynard Dixon,Ed Rushka, and Bridget Riley.

This museum should not be missed! It prides itself on the high quality of its traveling exhibits and its service to the community at large, although its excellent permanent collection is made up of lesser-known artists. On several occasions have been impressed and even astounded by the high quality of its visiting exhibitions: currently Chester Arnold, in the recent past (off the top of my head) Rembrandt drawings and etchings, the paintings of Fernando Botero, of Whistler, the Quilts of Gee's Bend, Raphael's "Donna Velata," amphora from the Art Nouveau era. They have "First Thursday" musical events from 5 to 7 pm, for just the price of admission, and Jazz Brunches every Sunday from 11 to 2. Their daily lunch selections are delightful and original, served in a warm and inviting first-floor space.

We visited the Nevada Art Museum on a Friday Dec., 2009. It is a great building, housing art on three floors. The rrof was closed due to recent snow.
The highlight of the visit was the Rembrandt exhibit, showing over 150 of his copper-plate etchings. Priceless. A travelling show from the MFA, Boston. Very nice display of how the copper plate etchings are made as well is a nice educational touch.
The cafe menu looked very nice, though we chose not to eat there. Quite a bargain at $10.00 admission, despite what the previous reviewer had to say. No AAA disount- that may get a few more people in when you advertise the discount in the AAA magazine- my opinion. ( The Auto Museum does the discount) Other areas are very intrersting and welll labelled. Easy to find. Parking was full- moreso for the school they house than museum-goers; I find this problematic. They should save a few spot for visitors and non-staff. I give the museum a solid four out of five rating- and it deserves a top ten rating of thigs to do in Reno.
