Baymont Inn & Suites Reno
Ranked #43 of 63 Hotels in Reno

This motel has some age on it and it shows. The public areas are very tired looking and shopworn. The room (234) was large and had a kitchen area which included a stove. The king bed was comfortable and the A/C worked efficiently.
Here's my beef...
Starting at noon on the day of our reservation, we realizied that we would be in Reno much earlier than we had expected. We called the inn to cancel and were informed that their "no hassel" cancellation policy required 24 hour notice. We called the national Customer Care number to see if they could help us out. NO they could not interfere in the policy of the individual inn. Called the inn again (twice) to try to work out an arrangement. We were asked to hold for a moment each time and each time we gave up holding after 10 minutes. Finally talked to a desk clerk. Not authorized to make deals. Arrived at the hotel at 2:00 pm and asked for the manager. We had made the reservation weeks earlier online for $50. The inn was already 95% booked and the room we had booked would now rent for $90. [Friday night in Reno - think any gamblers are on their way here?] The manager said he could not help us out - you know that 24 hour clause.
We checked in, took showers, and took a nap for a couple of hours and then left for our next destination greatly refreshed but confused about the nature of hotel economics.

I often have to travel solo, so when I stay at a hotel I don't need a lot of glitz and nonsense - just fairly good basic comfortable rooms with WIFI that actually works that seems to be an issue with other properties. When in Reno it is not for the casino gig and why I avoid downtown. I've stayed at the Baymont over the past years as they redid the whole building and the Hawthorne Suites just steps across the parking lot.

They are about 1/2 mile from the Reno airport - just minutes. They offer shuttle to the airport, Amtrak, and Harrah's casino downtown, and nearby casinos for eating as there is nothing decent nearby.

Easy access if driving as they are just off US395.It has been handy for me to turn in my rental car the night before and then have them bring me back to the hotel. Airport noise is minimal.

Great staff. When I pointed out the ice machine was out in 100 degree weather, a staff member took the bucket over to the Hawthorne to fill it and brought it up to my room.

Rooms have microwave and fridge. Rooms somewhat small but nicely done with a large wall-mounted flat screen TV at the foot of the King bed. Though I barely watch TV, this is one of the few hotels anywhere that offers a zillion channels instead of the minimum dreary channels some do.

They have an excellent free breakfast in the Hawthorne lobby when compared to other stays around the country offering minimum junk for the same room price.

Cheap rooms and you get what you pay for. Hallway rugs, a disaster but room was acceptable for sleeping. 4th floor was relatively quiet. Parking lot and other amenities shared by sister property next door, so parking spaces were at a premium. Desk clerk was polite. Breakfast was minimally magnificent served in cramped and stuffy room.

Room Tip: stay as high as possible to avoid street and foot traffic.

We read all the reviews and thought if would be somewhat nice but it smelled like weed in the halls, smoke in the rooms, showers had mold, beds were hard as a rock, and there were drunk guys in the hallways. Overall, 2 nd to worse hotel ever.

I have stayed here several times. For a little over $40 per night, I think it's a good value.

The hotel shares a parking lot with the Hawthorn Suites next door. They also share the same airport shuttle. The shuttle also provides local transportation which is convenient. At night, the front desk closes down and check-in or check-out is done through the Hawthorn Suites front desk. The Hawthorn Suites is a little nicer but the rates are also slightly higher.

The building is clearly an old design but the rooms have undergone some renovation. Newer bed/bedding and flat screen TV. Furnishings are fairly new and in good shape. Room is clean and well-lit. Bathroom is a bit cramped due to the old layout. Water temperature very inconsistent especially during morning hours when everyone else is also taking a shower. Sound from the hallway and the next room can be heard in the room.

The breakfast area offered plenty of seating. A fairly good selection of items. Hot items include ham and eggs. Three different cereals and 2 different juice selections, several muffins/bagels, waffle maker, yogurts, apples/oranges. The breakfast staff was quick to refill items.

Computer/printer were available in the lobbies of both the Baymont and the Hawthorn. The Hawthorn lobby also offered cookies in the evening along with 24-hour coffee/hot cocoa/tea.

Most of the staff were helpful. One Baymont front desk staff seemed to be more concerned with dealing with personal business on her cell phone (easily heard by anyone close to the lobby).

Not much within walking distance but the shuttles can take you to local attractions.

Overall, not a fancy place but good value for the price.

We stayed in Reno for a night on our way to Lake Tahoe. The Baymont is a couple of minutes away from the airport and about a 10 minute drive from the strip. Our room was fairly large and the king size bed was very comfortable. We were on the 4th floor and it was very quiet although the hotel was not full at all. The room was clean and seemed pretty new and updated, with nice linens, a flat screen t.v., fridge, microwave and large desk, with plenty of room to walk around. The bathroom was older and a little shabbier. It was also a handicapped bathroom so the sink was about mid- thigh level, which was weird, since we did not request that and the place seemed pretty empty. The breakfast was pretty good for a free breakfast. Eggs (powdered and not so good), ham, make your own waffles, toast, bagels, muffins, fruit, yogurt. The front desk staff the evening we arrived and the morning we left were both very friendly. Ala in all, it was a clean, comfortable and very convenient place to stay for a night in Reno.

The room was clean and the beds where suprisingly comfortable, but it was small there was nowhere to put our suitcases or other bags and overall noisy, we turned on the window unit to drown out the noise while sleeping. The staff at the front desk where very friendly and helpful as was one of the shuttle drivers, the other driver was a bit surly and his driving skills questionable. We had a non-smoking room but at times it smelled like someone was smoking, we reported it to the front desk and they assured us no one was smoking - weird as that is one unmistakable smell. It was also weird that one of the doors to get to the building required the room key to open but if you went around to the other side it was always open. Free wifi is convenient and flat screen TV allowed us to hookup laptop to it and watch Netflix, I now travel with the extra cables just in case. It was OK for two nights, rather stay elsewhere for a longer stay.
