“Great Italian Food”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

We visited Vivoli for our anniversary and were very happy with the experience. It seemed authentically Italian - both the decor and the food. The bruschetta was quite good and we also enjoyed our entrees (Chicken Parmigiana and Chicken Florentine.) And the Tiramisu was out of this world.

The restaurant is a little hard to find, but it's worth the effort. Although the service was excellent, we didn't appreciate having an 18% gratuity added to our bill. We know this is customary in Europe and we would have tipped well anyway, but it's a little surprising in the US.

“Great Food, Service, & Wine Deal”
Reviewed July 13, 2012

I found this restaurant when buying wine at Total Wine, in the same retail complex. Vivoli was presenting a chicken dish for tasting next to the wine tasting bar, and explained that they would not charge a corking fee for diners who brought their Total Wine purchase into the restaurant (showing receipt). Glad I gave them a try: their Cannelloni was among the best dishes I've ever tasted! Hubby's lasagna was lovely, too. Liked the starters of fresh soft breadsticks and black olive tapenade. We split the calamari appetizer (very well prepared, but the sauce can be quite spicey) as well as a nice beet, spinach, walnut, and Gorgonzola salad. They automatically add an 18% gratuity to your bill, but the service was excellent so we didn't feel ripped off by this. Looking forward to going again, trying something new from their extensive menu, and saving the typical 200 to 300% markup on wine with dinner!

“Great Italian - HUGE Servings”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

Be prepared to share here -- great italian food all clearly fresh and home made and the servings were plenty big to share. We also really enjoyed the olive dip they served with the bread. It was a nice change from the typical butter. We had both pizza and pasta and were all very happy (and very full). Almost everyone had leftovers. The service was great as well. We'd eat there again if we returned to Reno.

“Classic Italian with excellent service”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

On a recent trip through Reno, four of us had dinner at Vivoli Cafe. There were several dining awards from nationally recognized reviewers at the hostess station which we learned were very well deserved. We were returning from a week in South Lake Tahoe with several good meals and so we skipped the appetizers, but they sure sounded tempting. We each had a different pasta dinner and we were all very pleased with our choices of lasagna bolognese, pasta with shrimp, spaghetti bolognese and penne bolognese. The portions were large and very tasty. Our server, Chad, was extremely helpful with the wine list and describing the menu. The service was prompt but not the least rushed. The atmosphere is typical of many Italian restaurants and was done very tastefully. We ordered three desserts, each of which was very good. The pastry chef, Francesco, came to our table and was a very charming fellow who came to the US only six months ago. We learned he is being married in two weeks and we wished him many years of wedded bliss explaining that we two couples had celebrated 44 and 48 years of marriage respectively in the past few days. Francesco left momentarily and returned with five chilled glasses of limoncello for toasting our celebrations and his forthcoming nuptials, demonstrating Italians are wonderfully warm hosts.
