“Authentic Italian food...owner from the Lake Como (Lombardy region)”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

Celebrated a family member's birthday at this charming Italian restaurant located within a small shopping center in Reno. The restaurant offers an extensive selection from appetizers, salads, soup, pasta, beef, fish, pork, veal, chicken, risotti and cannelloni/crespelle/lasagne. Average cost per entree is about $11 - 12 with appetizers ranging from $5 - $9 and meat dishes from $13 - $20.

Our family ordered baked manicotti (homemade filled crepes with a delicious sauce that was covered with mozzarella), chicken piccata di pollo (tender chicken with capers and a lemon sauce with a small side of pasta and zucchini), and tagliatelle porcini pomodoro (delicious homemade wide pasta with porcini mushrooms and a very good tomato sauce). Appetizers included the Caprese salad with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and basil (excellent selection), carciofi alla Romana (marinated artichokes over salad greens in a lovely presentation that was also delicious), and Carpaccio di Polipo (thinly sliced TENDER octopus with oil, lemon and fresh Italian spices). We've had octopus on many occasions, but never presented with thin vertical slices, which is now a new favorite way to prepare it.

For a neighborhood restaurant, this is a great selection. We were only visting Reno, but made our selection based on previous TripAdvisor reviews. Once again, we relied upon our fellow travelers' suggestions and were pleased! Thank you, TripAdvisor.

“Good except for the owner”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

Bella Italia has a nice atmosphere, a little bit of old world Italian to the degree you can have that in a strip mall. The food is average, tomato sauce was flat, not much flavor, the alfredo was better and my significant other said the cannoli was horrible. This restaurant would be fine if it weren't for the attitude of the owner, indifferent at best, and unfriendly to say the least. This is the second and last time we will eat here. We thought after the first time, ok, the owner is having an off night, can happen to anyone, shouldn't but can. It wasn't any better this time. The one young waitress looked like she was in fear for her life. This guy should take heed, if your restaurant is empty on a Saturday night and you're having to use groupons to get customers, maybe you should change your attitude and make your customers feel welcome rather than like you're doing them a favor by being open, and I suspect you won't be for long.

“Wonderfully delicious - a small gem!”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Bella Italia is a must if you want Italian food in Reno. It is a small place in a shopping center (right next to the Scolari's grocery) with a very big heart. It is open for lunch and dinner and casual folks feel right at home. One wall of this restaurant has shelves with all kinds of food and goodies from Italy for sale. The tables are small with comfortable chairs and nice touches of linen tablecloths and napkins and small vases of fresh flowers. A family from Italy runs the place and really cares about getting things right. The real star is the delicious food. They make all their menu items right down to the pasta. I absolutely love the homemade ravioli. I could eat it every day. The veal dishes are another winner. Actually everything there is yummy and beautifully presented.

Please don't be put off by the small shopping center front. Inside you will find a warm, welcoming place that your tummy will thank you for visiting! This is definitely on my list of "go to" places for Italian.

“Excellent Italian food.....authentic like Nona used to make!!!!!”

Bella Italia is a must try restaurant for anyone who wants great Italian food! Giuseppe is the owner , he comes from the Lake Como Region of Italy. This is a must stop for us every time we are in Reno and now it is always our friends' special request when they come to visit us .
It is in a small shopping center off of Virginia near in and out burger, you would never think to try it, but believe me , don't miss it!!! Inside you will be pleasantly surprised. You will be greeted by Giuseppe with his wonderful, almost shy smile. The food is excellent . I Love the house salad and my husband Loves all of their soups( I do too, they are delicious but they are also very filling)my husband's favorite is the Lasagna, they make it with a Bechamel and meat Sauce which is excellent. I Love the manicotti ....this home made pasta is stuffed with ricotta cheese and spinach covered with a creamy white sauce ...so delicious!!!!! Everything on the menu is very reasonable even the wine!!
Save room for the Panna cotta for dessert, it will be the best you ever had!!!! The atmosphere , once inside is very nice; clean , Soft Italian music playing in the back ground, poster's of Italy. On one side of the restaurant, where there is also seating, there is a kind of deli, where you can buy Olive oil, pasta etc. A special note: have patience if they are very busy, listen to the music, enjoy some wine and their delicious bread dipped in olive oil, it will be well worth the wait!!!!

“No! No! No!”
Reviewed June 15, 2012 via mobile

If you like basic packaged pasta in what seemed to be no better than canned sauce, then this is for you! Atmosphere of a small cafeteria. Service was sparse from an apparently disgruntled older gentleman who put one teaspoon of grated Parmesan on our pasta when asked...left without checking to see if we had enough...when we finally got his attention to ask for more cheese it took him some time before he came back and tossed one more teaspoon on each of our plates....Way better options for Italian all over town!
