“Beware - Hotwire/Priceline 3.5Star = Economy Room”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Eldorado Reno recently as part of a longer vacation. I successfully booked our arrival night through Hotwire and selected a 3.5 star downtown hotel. The hotel ended up being the Eldorado, which I would agree is a 3.5 star "hotel", but the room ended up being an "Economy" room that could only charitably be rated a 2.5 star. I travel a lot and the room the smallest room I have ever been in with the 1 queen bed taking up nearly the entire room. The HVAC system was loud and the view was even with the rooftop and of numerous HVAC units, satellite dishes, and antennas. Luckily it was only for one night. Upon our return to Reno later in the week I used Priceline to reserve two nights, again choosing the 3.5 star option. Again I received the Eldorado hotel. Upon checkin I was told it would be an economy room - same as Hotwire - and asked the hotel nicely for an upgrade to the advertised 3.5 star rate and explained that it was my opinion that the room was not 3.5 star. They said that the only way they could upgrade me was to charge for the upgrade. I wasn't happy, but paid $10 the per night for an "upgrade" to a king bed. If you are booking a 3.5 star room from Hotwire or Priceline for downtown Reno, be aware that you will not be getting a 3.5 star room if your hotel ends up being the Eldorado.

Room Tip: See the above review. I'd suggest choosing the 4 star option on Priceline or Hotwire because li...

We loved our stay at the Eldorado hotel and casino. It is by far, our most favorite hotel in Reno. When we checked in , the woman behind the desk was great and couldn't do enough for us. the room was very nice and clean, the buffet was excellent, and the casino was clean and the floor staff very helpful. they had a excellent variety of slot machines. The machines seemed looser than Silver Legacy ( which have a terrible pay back) and the Sands which was not a lot better. We would recommend this Hotel above the others on the strip

Room Tip: get a city view, the lights at night are very nice

We have found this is our favorite place to stay in Reno. It is connected by skywalk to the Silver Legacy and Circus Circus and all shops and restaurants in between as well as a close walk to Harrahs and the other few remaining spots on Virginia Street. When available we are almost always upgraded but the standard king room is clean spacious and well appointed, albeit with somewhat dated décor. There was room with adequate walking space for a king bed, two night tables a sleeper sofa (double, I believe) 2 club chairs with table, a desk with chair and a dresser. While we have not seen all room types at any of the downtown hotels, our experience is that the El Dorado rooms are more spacious.

The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom small but functional because the sink/vanity is separate from the toilet and tub.

The dresser houses a free safe and an assortment of overpriced snacks and beverages, which if removed will be charged to your room. I wish we could remove some beverages and use the "mini fridge" for our own items, but that is simply not possible. There is a coffee maker with some pretty awful coffee in the bathroom. The Eldorado has a coffee bar downstairs where they roast excellent premium coffee and there is generally a coupon for a free pastry with a coffee purchase, which I recommend over this bad hotel room coffee.

We always enjoy the showroom with sometimes first run shows and musical and and other times more unknown review type shows, but they are always well done with a great sound and a stadium style seating with cup holders and with really no bad seats in the house. Shows are often discounted with the room.

Staff is friendly and helpful. I will be returning for 2 more nights next week and do not expect to be disappointed notwithstanding the bad "free" supply of coffee.

Stayed for free and received complimentary food and casino credit so all in all, it was a great deal. Can't speak for rooms in other towers, but the rooms in the Virginia tower were humble but clean. Toiletries were great but bathroom was older and the room furnishings had seen better days. Dining choices were adequate and the Asian "food to go" venue was really good! Spent 10 hours in the casino, had a great time, and left with what I started with. . .how fun is that! Waitresses were generous with casino liquor, ambiance was not as loud/blaring as some of the other casinos and I had a great time. Offer me more complimentary stays, and I will be back!

We booked a room on-line for two nights at the Eldorado; we specifically requested a king size bed, non-smoking room with a view. We arrived after 8 hours of driving and very tired, only to be escorted to a two double beds, smoking room with no view. We told the Bell Hop that we worked very hard to research hotels in Reno before we booked and that we booked based on reviews; we were told that this is the norm for hotels to 'bait and switch rooms' and that there was nothing they could do for us. We said we want out money back and were prepared to leave and go to another hotel. They said they would move us to another room and that we could updated to what we had originally book the next day. We ended up in a queen size economy non-smoking room with no view (see picture attached). The hassle of moving was not worth it, so we stayed for the two days in this room. We were told by the front desk staff, that when you book rooms on-line you are sold rooms that really don't exist. When I booked the room, it was for $55.00/night; our final bill came to $193.42; far cry from $110.00. Each time I argued with the front desk staff, they told us to wait while they spoke with the Manager. After about the 5th time of this back and forth banter, I finally said "we would like to speak with the manager ourselves'. After much discussion with the manager, we did receive a refund. This hotel caters to the big $$ gamblers and VIP clients. The Valet's, housekeeping staff and bell hops are the only saving grace for this hotel. Front desk staff need to be trained in customer service and the management needs to work harder to satisfy customers to make them want to return. Our experience was very disappointing and we have no desire to return to this hotel or Reno for that matter. We were treated like royally when in Las Vegas and will certainly take our return business there from now on.

Room Tip: Call the front desk and make your reservations with a live person; don't use on-line booking age...

Check-in was a breeze, staff was friendly, casino staff very nice, room clean, and check-out/valet a breeze. I would recommend it because I got a great deal on Expedia...$55 on July 4th!!!! There was a Wing Fest going on right outside the casino doors so that was really cool. I went to Reno for a family visit and had a blast!!!

Room Tip: Higher non-smoking floors

We have enjoyed our stay here. We are not big casino people but have enjoyed the location. Great meals at the buffet and the Roxy. I was concerned we would hear lots of hallway noise but it has been very quiet.
