First, on entering the office you pass two huge piles of bird droppings by the pillars that no one seems to think needs cleaning up. Could not get the thermostat to work so called front office...ringing at least 12 times...twice, and she did not answer. Finally had to go to the office in person to find out about the tricky little plastic thing on your door key that has to be inserted into the magic light switch in order to access the thermostat. Give me a break. Then when we turned on the sink faucet the knob came off in our hand. But room was very clean, nice firm bed with pillow top. Three restaurants next door were all closed on Monday when we were there so had to drive into town to find another restaurant. There is only one. If you just want a decent place to sleep at a reasonable price, this place is fine.

Room Tip: The location is far enough off the highway that it is quiet. Any room would likely be just fine.

There were highlights to staying here:
1. First room we were checked into was not actually ready
2. The second room the keys did not work and had to be reprogrammed so we could actually get in
3. Also, while the second, Non-Smoking, room was ready and after we were finally able to get in it occurred to us that it had been smoked in which is a no-go for my highly asthmatic wife. Also, there was seemingly blood on the curtain... <shudder> so on to...
4. Room three had cobwebs galore making us wonder when the last time anyone had stayed there, we knocked them down and were happy were were only there for one night
5. Room was missing towels and soap which we had to fetch
6. AC was non-functional, had to troubleshoot that myself only to find the unit was unplugged from the wall
7. Ice machine closest to our room was broken
8. Breakfast area was tiny and hardly stocked

If I ever have to stay in Minden again I will go over to the Carson Valley Inn.

We picked this Best Western because I have the rewards card and there is one in Grass Valley I really like. This one could not compare! When we arrived, the clerk was basically just performing her job. The hotel was under construction, but none was going on when we checked in at about 5pm. It was pretty neat on the outside though, even though there were a few plastic covered mattresses stacked outside. We could see that our door was newly painted, so they had been in there. We went in, the AC had been turned on (it was about 95 outside), but wasn't cold, so we decided to go to dinner. When we came back, the AC hadn't changed, and it was noisy. We did not complain, as we were tired. The only thing that saved us was that it was a corner room and had cross-ventilating window which gave us a nice breeze and allowed us to sleep. I didn't have any problems with the mattress, but my husband, who is very skin and smell sensitive, complained that the bed was uncomfortable (it really did look like they had hurriedly put on a sheet with nothing underneath), and didn't seem washed. I understand about the continental breakfasts, but this one was definitely under par for my tastes! Very poor selection, and not really kept up. We grabbed a cup of coffee and left, and we will not be back!

Room Tip: Corner room upstairs provided nice breeze at night!

We stayed here only for one night on the way from Yosemite to Lake Tahoe. The hotel is located just outside the town of Minden and a 15-minute drive from Carson City, where we went for dinner. We were expecting nothing in particular, but were pleasantly surprised. We received a room upstairs which was very spacious and clean. The air-con was quiter than in some five star hotels. The only minor negatives were the not-too-friendly check-in desk staff and the minimal complimentary breakfast. For the low price we paid, though, this was ok, although we have seen better breakfasts in other BW's.

stayed one night during the week. front desk very courteous. room nice and clean, beds were comfortable with plenty of pillows to choose from. free wifi easy to connect to. can hear plumbing from adjacent rooms and walking from upstairs but nobody during our stay was noisy. location close enough to gas stations and restaurant choices within 3 or so miles. tucked in one block from highway 395 but not noisy. the complimentary breakfast consisted of cereal, hard-boiled eggs, toast/english muffins, danish, make your own waffles along with coffee, whole and skim mild as well as OJ and apple juice.

Immaculate, comfortable, HUGE room.
Registration desk staffed 24 hours.
Nice grassy park and beautiful neighborhood to walk with pooch.
Very conveniently located right near the 395/88 interchange, and just south of the Kingsbury Grade cutoff to South Lake Tahoe.
Staggeringly good complimentary breakfasts, including a make-your-own-waffle station.

What more could you ask for? We'll be back!

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor room on end near park.
