“Smaller Hotel/Casino”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2013

If your like me, the Mega Hotel/Casino's have gotten a little out of hand. Come on, when I have to take a tram to get from the self-park to the hotel check-in, look for my gambling buddy for half an hour out on the casino floor (even with cell phone in hand), or pay extra for VIP check-in to avoid 2 hour check-in lines it's time for a change.
The Golden Nugget Laughlin is just the right size to offer big hotel amenities, nice restaurants, pool, free valet parking and a descent size casino albiet it bit smokey (and I smoke).
Rooms are nice, clean, and the river view rooms have a nice enough view.
Rates are much less than the aforementioned "Mega Resorts" although not as plush and fancy either, but as I said clean, flat screen TV's and mostly updated.

Complaints: Self Parking garage and elevator is crappy; use valet and pay a small tip. Casino could use a little better ventilation system and as I said, I smoke and I noticed it. Casino needs a facelift, it's not bad, but could use a little updating.

This is my third stay for several days at a time in the past couple years so "all-in-all" - rates are good, rooms clean, restaurants reasonable, casino pay-offs are good enough to not complain too much LOL and the hotel/casino size is perfect in my opinion.

Room Tip: Do the $5 (or whatever) upgrade to at least a garden view - it's well worth it, much nicer rooms...

Arrived in sweltering heat on a very quiet Sunday afternoon at about 1.00 pm.parked the car in quite an empty car park and went to reception ,which again was deserted,to check in.advised by the receptionist no rooms ready at the moment, come back at about 3.00pm and we'll get you a room.o.k what do we do in 110 degree heat? Went to the pool area.only 3 sun umbrellas for the whole area and guess what-all taken but nobody there! So went to Starbucks for a coffee and sit down in the cool and eventually went back to check in at about 3.15pm.the guy fiddled about on his computer for a couple of minutes and seemed to take great delight in telling us still no room available.what? Come on. A Sunday afternoon, the place is deserted and you're telling us there is'nt a single room in the whole place we can rest our weary bones in? Yep,come back about 4.30pm and I'll have a room ready! You can imagine how we felt at this point.is there wifi available? Yes for a cost for 24 hours.so we went across to McDonald's for free wifi and booked a couple of nights in Vegas instead and were we glad!will never venture to the golden nugget again.

As soon as we walked in everyone was very nice. I received a comp room but rooms that look like this one would have been over 150.00 easy. The comp came with 2 bed standard no view. I asked if we could get a king with a courtyard view. The girl didn't even hesitate and our needs were met. We ate at all the restaurants. And the food was great at each one. The cafe has a great morning special for 3.99. And the Saltgrass had an early bird special for dinner at 12.99. Since we didn't do we'll gambling this helped the budget. We saw the housekeeping lady in the hall when we checked in. Asked for extra coffee for the morning. She was very cheerful and gladly gave us more. She left us a couple extra the following day when she cleaned. Huge variety of games. Some new ones and old favorites. The cocktail waitresses did a good job too! We took a day trip up to Oatman Az. For lunch. We did some research before going on the history. Which made it more interesting. We will be back to The Golden Nugget that's for sure!

A return visit following a several year gap reveals a little fraying around the edges, but the place is less frantic -- and just a tiny bit classier -- than the available options in Laughlin. A so-so pool (with a nice view of the Colorado River), a modest but pleasant casino, quality staff. The guys behind the bar which overlooks the river are friendly and the view (if you take your eyes off the poker screens embedded in the bar) is cool. You gotta stay in Laughlin, may as well book this place.

Room Tip: Lovely garden area on the interior between two towers is quiet; poolside rooms are okay, too, with t...

Comfortable, quiet rooms, however costs for coffee of $10 per pack were a right rip off.
Wireless connection at $12 a day was unacceptable, do yourself a favour, go to subway in the Aquarius and get it FOC.
Casino smelt a bit of tab smoke, and looked like it needed a good clean.
Casino staff a bit ignorant, compared to others in Laughlin.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed good, avoid wireless charges by going to Subway.

As other reviewrs have said, the Golden Nugget is a typical casino/hotel. However, my experience was totally positive: pleasant, smiling, and helpful service at check-in, a quiet, clean, and very comfortable room. I only spent one night but it was a night I really needed to be hassle-free and it was.

I was looking forward to resting after being on the road for over seven hours, which means a nice bed. What my wife and I found out upon entering our room was a bed that was made but looked as if someone took a short nap. it was unkempt and disheveled. When the bellman came up to deliver our luggage I pointed the condition of the bed to him, but he did not seem care at all. When we went downstairs to the casino I stopped by at the front desk and mentioned how we found the bed, but again they did not seem to care. This definitely was disappointing since I've stayed at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas and was never ignored as in Laughlin. In addition to the issue with the bed we found the room to be old and it had a musty odor. This will be the last time I stay it this Golden Nugget in Laughlin.
