“great stay at the plaza hotel....but i want to clarify fremont for people”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2012

i will start off with saying i loved the plaza.. The rooms were great and clean, staff very friendly, and lots of security. i will stay thier again.
bed comfortable, toilet in small area with tub so very cramped (but i did not care)
pool area o.k. as it is higher up a little windy but always got sun unlike many others
......loved island sushi, hash house o.k., also has McDonalds and Subway
Honestly however i spent little time in the hotel AS IT IS VEGAS

I wanted to clarify something however....if you have never been to vegas you have to understand fremont is not close to the strip where tourists (mostly first timers, 20 somethings looking for clubs and pool parties, families or the resort crowd) want to be. I have read reviews over the years on all the hotels in vegas as i am a regular (and a 30's male who does not come here with my child for a demographic) .... Many complaints about most hotels can be erased quite quickly with some clarity

-most the hotels on fremont were built pre 70's so the size of rooms , thier design and pools dictate this, the only exception being the gold nugget which i loved staying at as well.
-if you comlain about the smell of SMOKE in your room do NOT go to vegas (or at least stay on fremont) as EVERYONE smokes EVERYWHERE and you will never escape it it will even be on your cloths when you get back to your room..i do not smoke i just know this comes with the territory AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SMOKING DAILY IN THESE FREMONT HOTELS FOR 40 PLUS YEARS..unlike here in canada thier is no stand 20 feet from a doorway or smoking areas,,,,, it is a free for all almost everywhere on fremont
-not the area for kids (unless you just want cheap rooms) as thier is nothing for them to do
-if you get a fremont view room it is beautiful but noisy untill 2 in the morning, i did not go to vegas to sleep or bring my kid so that was fine....it is loud (loved it)
-for people in thier 20's thier are no jersey shore type clubs or massive pool parties down here.....(like you would get at the hard rock or palms) .....as the only pools are at the plaza, california and fitzgeralds (now the D... STUPID NAME BY THE WAY) and are small 70's type pools and the nugget although great with the tank a different vibe.

and in closing..........

-thier are thousands of hotel rooms in some hotels,, line ups will be big at times, reservations will get lost or the room you wanted will be gone. i booked through expedia and wanted a fremont view, not trusting anyone i re-confirmed with the hotel who said i did not have one but it could easily be changed by calling expedia, i did ,,,they called the hotel to change then called me back no problems,, as this was 2 months before thier were plenty of rooms so i got one, as i was at home also no big deal as they called back an hour later,, if i was in vegas i would have been in the lobby for that hour and the room may have been gone, i know to many people who have had problems like this so do re-confirm everything everytime,,this was NOT the plaza's fault, no need to yell at the staff...... and in reality anyone could type out and print off a confermation letter claiming they have a great room if you look at them so the staff are only doing thier job if the reservation says that you do not,do your homework and re-confirm everything.

Room Tip: Fremont view rooms are VERY loud every night untill 2 in the morning, if you have kids or plan on sl...

Stayed at the Plaza in early January 2012 for 4 nights. Plane landed late so I got to the Check In Desk after 130am. A few other folks were already in line and there was only 1 Front Desk Clerk working so check in took a little longer than I would have expected.

The Front Desk Clerk upgraded my room to a corner room with a view of The Strip. The upgrade was to a double Queen Bed corner unit. The room was big and roomy considering it has two Queen beds in it. This unit is next to the train tracks but the train that passes by at 3am or 330am doesn't bother me at all.

The hotel was supposed to have been renovated in the past year or so and they contractors did a decent job for a old time venue. Wallpapers, beds, furniture were relatively new. A 40" LCD tv is standard in each room I believe.

The bathroom did show signs of wear and tear. The tub and sink looked new. The sink faucets showed signs of wear already (some play on the knobs and worn look).

I would stay here again. There's a Sushi place in the Casino area. Also there's a "Hash House" open for breakfast near the Front Desk.

Ask to stay in the South Tower as this is where you can enter and exit the hotel to get to the parking structure without having to walk thru the Casino.

Room Tip: - Corner unit has a view of The Strip but it's farther from the elevators. - Ask for the South...

I like to stay downtown to gamble (low stakes) once a year. I have stayed at a number of the downtown hotels, including the Nugget, over the past 10 or so years. Before that I used to stay on the strip. This is my first stay at the Plaza as previously, I was afraid of the place due to the bad reviews. I thought I'd give it a try post renovation.

The place is lovely. The lobby, the casino, and especially the rooms. I can't think of anything to complain about. I got the room for $28 a night for a thu and fri night.

Yes, the bathtub drain was slow to drain and yes the casino and lobby smell funny like cheap perfume being pumped into the casino. I don't understand the reviewer gripes about the size of the bathroom. I am 6'3" and I didn't have any problems at all with the bathroom functions.

My only complaint is the casino. Like I said above, it is really nice. however, it lacks somewhat in selection, particularly table game/blackjack selection. I did most of my gambling at the Main Street Station and the D. The Main Street deals very fair games and the D has an extremely live atmosphere. A very fun place to gamble.

I would definetaly recommend this hotel for anybody looking to stay on Fremont street.

Room Tip: stay here!

My husband and I were at the Plaza for the first time after their remodel was complete. We thought the room was nicely done -a bit more modern that we expected. I wish they had kept the "old school grand style" that this hotel had in the day ! The bathroom was very tiny and there was no way both of us could be in there at the same time. But, overall we were happy with the clean and newness of the remodel. We love Fremont Street and all the good places you can find to eat more reasonably and the overall feel of the place. Most bartenders are friendly and the prices are so much better than on the strip ! We didn't get to try Oscar's restaurant because it wasn't finished but will do that next time.

Had a single Sunday night stay 10/2011. Great rate sub $40 for king room with Freemont ST view. Was excited to see the renovated rooms though I had never stayed here before the renovations. There is a big buzz over the revival of Freemont ST area and downtown in general. It is still a little honky tonk but young and vibrant energy.

The room was nicely appointed - all new throughout. Furniture was contemporary but not gaudy. Comfortable bed. Nice retro decorations and prints. The bathroom was real nice too - no slap up shower stall but all new tile work and fixtures.

(-)Freemont ST room has a nice view but will be noisy until 1AM+ with street activity and a band that plays at the top of the street so you may want to sacrifice the view if you are a light sleeper.

Check in/out was breeze and the front desk staff was pleasant and expedient. Food court and Mc Donalds were still under construction but the sundry shop had prices cheaper than most convenience stores. Casino floor was. One area needing help still (at the time I stayed) was the entrance by the valet/parking. Due to the property layout there is a small drop-off loop for taxis etc by the front desk. If you valet or self park you have to walk through the casino to the front desk from the south side of the property - looked a bit run down and thought it could have been renovated (may be on the list) especially since that may be the 1st impression one gets such as I did.

Will stay again and would consider paying upwards to $100/nt for a weekend stay.

My room was very nice. Bed was super comfy. Had ironing board-hair dryer- nice chair for setting-nice lg tv. No resort fee was nice but if you need internet its about 10 to 12 dollars a day. Had Mc donalds and Hash House resturant.

Only complaint I have is the perfume they use in the casino was way too over powering other than that I highly recc it.
