Tropicana Las Vegas - A DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel
Ranked #102 of 265 Hotels in Las Vegas
Reviewed May 16, 2013

This was a superb stay. What a fantastic place to relax for a few days in Vega$. I cannot WAIT to come back! Super close to MGM, Excalibur and Hooters...Also close to Luxor and Mandalay Bay.

The Trop and Doubletree/HIlton have done a phenomenal renovation- so good a job the rooms feel like a new hotel rather than a renovation! Rooms are bright and airy. The furnishings are nice- not fancy or super modern-chic type you'll find at some of the higher end hotels in Vegas, but quite serviceable. If you are looking for luxury this isn't the place. However if you're looking for very nice, clean and comfortable- this is your place. It's a very nice 3.5 star hotel (maybe for because of the amenities). And it's not pretending to try and be a 5 star hotel like the Venetian. Personally, I'd rather pay the Trop prices for really nice than the Venetian price. If you were to put this in a pecking order, I would say it is MUCH nicer than the hotels a tier or two below like Flamingo and Bally's and Quad and Excalibur. MUCH!!!! It is also above Harrah's for sure.

One thing it is lacking, to be on par with, say, Planet Hollywood, is quick fast casual restaurants and other full service restaurant choices besides Beach Cafe (which is very good, by the way) for during the day or late at nite. The little food court looks like a sad remnant pre-reno. Hopefully they will give it a fresh face lift as well!

Front desk looks great now with really great staff as well. I talked to a woman who has been there for 30 years and she seemed pleased with the new renovations...While the casino is smaller than many it is nice and bright. I am not a big player, but I do like to play a bit and I dislike the casinos that are really dark.

If you are here, please go to Bacio. It is very good. The cool thing at the Trop is there are lots of good deals when you stay there. You get 2 for 1 cocktails at the restaurant AND a complimentary glass of house wine (and the house wine was pretty good!!). Whatta great deal!

The pool is still beautiful like it was prior. The gym, while not very big, somehow has lots of good machines to work out on while overlooking the pool. The Laugh Factory was a lot of fun as well!! Really great staff @ the Laugh Factory!

Do yourself a favor and stay at the Trop. You can get great deals and you will be in a lot of comfort. Oh...the only negative part of my trip was an incredibly rude, sarcastic, negative, unhappy young woman named Ecko who worked at the Beach Cafe in the mornings. Wow was she nasty. I watched her talk to several customers over the course of a few days- very sarcastic, nasty tone, never looked in anyone's eyes. She's one of those people with a small amount of power that tries to wield it over people (how sad). I bet her boss has no idea she is this caustic either because she does it in her low voice, calm way. Also because everyone else at the Beach Cafe was awesome including Jessica who always had a huge smile! Someone needs to teach Ecko to live up to the standards of all the employees surrounding her!! By the way, the breakfast buffet is awesome!

All in all, a super trip. I look forward to next time!

When you arrive at the property there are no signs that it is a DoubleTree hotel so only look for "Tropicana" signs. You have to hunt for the front desk, elevators, and restaurants through the casino which I suppose is understandable. Make sure to get your cookies early because they dont have them 24/7. The room was very lovely and clean. There was a wonderful view of the strip from our windows. We had a nice corner room which felt very spacious. I would not reccomend this hotel for business, there was a lot of problems with the WIFI.

I have been here before, but this the best it has ever been in terms of service, decor and atmosphere. Their Italian restaurant is fantastic. I recommend the Tropicana highly to anyone who is coming to Vegas for the first time or is a long time visitor. BTW, I loved my suite.

Stayed in The Trop for 3 nights in April 2013, and enjoyed it. The recently refurbished hotel is clean and comfortable, not too large and reasonably placed for The Strip, being opposite MGM Grand, New York,New York & Excalibur. Not being experienced casino gamblers we were a bit surprised to be checking in actually in the casino itself but this is Las Vegas. Also due to the road layout the taxi ride from the airport cost a rip-off $30 (inc. tip) even though the hotel is actually almost walkable from the airport. The pool areas (regarded by some as one of the best pools in Vegas, and certainly better than the cement pond at New York,New York) are nice and well-kept, if a little noisy with fairly loud music being constantly played. Lots of sunbeds and free beach towels. Also little need for two (yes two) lifeguards, since the [very warm] pool is never more than 4 feet deep! Room was large and comfortable with most of the facilities you would expect. However, surprisingly the hotel does not include fridges in rooms (presumably because they want you out there drinking & playing the tables/machines). The bar area was comfortable and functional, although we only used it for happy hours, where the entertainment consisted of a slightly annoying bloke with some sort of ipad contraption strapped to his wrist. Some of the bars in the 'themed' hotels such as New York,New York or The Venetian are more atmospheric and have more character. One tip, even if you don't intend to gamble there, is to make sure you get a (free) TropPlus players club card as soon as you arrive, which entitles you to happy hour drinks, discounts to in-house shows and other stuff. The casino area has a fairly laid back, casual feel, although from a personal point of view I would have preferred the croupiers to be dressed in something a little smarter than polo shirts. All in all a good-value, comfortable base (certainly more appealing than Luxor or Excalibur) for trawling the strip but would not particularly recommend dining in the hotel restaurants, since there are better options elsewhere on the strip. One night we dined in the Italian at the hotel and were very disappointed. Also try breakfast at Cocos, ten minutes walk away and one third the price of the hotel.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are larger and brighter.

We stayed two nights at the Tropicana at the end of a car trip to see 4 national parks and before catching our plane back home. Our stay was pleasant and we enjoyed the two nights. the hotel was just the right size not overly big like some of the casino hotels, service was good at the hotel and the restaurants. We were also able to enjoy the pool which had plenty of chairs for the guest to sit. The room was very comfortable and we had a great view of the mountains.

Just spent a great week at this friendly, comfortable hotel. Staff were great and the service everywhere superb. The pool area was lively but always found sun beds free whatever time of the day we visited. The casino is smaller than others on the strip but that made it less intimidating for first timers like us. On the whole would strongly recommend this as a perfect hotel for new Vegas visitors as its very well placed on the strip. Our only complaint was the beds were a little soft but that's a personal view

Every time we are in Vegas, we choose to stay at the Tropicana. The renovations they have done here are amazing. The staff is always friendly and attentive. On this last trip (5/10-5/12) there was some renovations going on in the room above ours which woke us up at about 8am (we just arrived in Vegas at about 330am after driving from Montana, so this wasn't the wake up call we were looking for haha), so I called the front desk and the lady who answered was very apologetic that we were not informed of what was going on and offered us a 75 dollar dinning and drink credit, which was way more than I expected.. Since I didn't really expect anything in the first place, just wanted to know what was going on, but I gladly took the offer. Also on this trip we were put up in the Club Tower, which we have never stayed in, it is always the other tower we have been in, and it was nice finding out that on the bottom level there was a walkout to the pool area. We were worried we would have to walk through the whole casino floor dripping water from the pool. Overall, every time we stay here we have a fantastic time, everyone is great, and we are always treated like what we would expect the high rollers are treated like! Haha, sounds weird, but true. OH and I would recommend signing up for their players club card. Not only do they give you back the first 200 dollars you spend gambling, but since I have signed up, I get offers in the mail all the time for free stays, comped food and drinks. And the casino host who has been assigned to me, Katie, is amazing! She always calls to make sure my trip was good, and if there was any room charges that she can take care of for me. So do it! :)
