“Great stay!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

I travel with a group and we have stayed at the Tropicana several times. This hotel has been totally revamped over the years and definitely meets the standard for the Doubletree brand. I would like to see more low cost food choices within the hotel.

I was here in May 2011 - the re-model was in progress at the time. The most lasting impression I have was how bad the air was in that hotel. I came down with a cold on the day of my friend's wedding and think the smokey air and bad ventilation had to do with that. Also, not impressed with the lack of coffee makers and the resort fee.

Otherwise, I thought the people and the service was good. The decor was charming, the beds really good. The pool wasn't open yet (were planning a grand opening if I recall). My room was in the back tower, so a bit of a haul to get there, but consequently also quieter.

Chose this hotel on the back of good reviews on Tripadvisor and decent prices Vs the rest of the strip. And was disappointed. But you can see why it has deceivingly good reviews. People self-sort into various hotels depending on their price segment. A lot of the people who probably go to the Tropicana aren't accustomed to going to places like the Wynn for example. So when they go to the Trop it seems good, relative to other hotels in the same price range in other cities.

However, there is no glamour in this place, there is no Vegas vibe and it the rooms, amenities and atmorsphere are average at best. Hotel best avoided. Don't make my mistake, pay-up for the quality on the strip, unless you are happy to settle for a motel quality hotel.

It is beyond me that this hotel has such high reviews. Those people must have seen it before the re-model.. Room was small. A hole in my bathtub. Pool was closed even though the website says it's open in March. Everything looks 100 years old, I don't get whole re-modeled thing. I stayed here because I am a Hilton reward member. I can't believe Hilton has their name on this hotel.I also paid a resort fee, for what I am unclear. Oh, and no coffee makers in the room. But when you get off the elevator from the room tower there's a Starbucks right there selling coffee like crazy. I will never be back and don't recommend to others.

Yes the hotel just went through an extensive renovation - however - its still not up to par.

Issues:
- NOISE! We stayed in room 1008 in the slim tower and we could hear our next door neighbors talking like they were DIRECTLY in our room. We could not sleep in at all, since they were up early. When I say these walls were paper thin, I mean it! Never experienced such thins walls in a hotel before.
- Smoke! While every casino can be smoky in Vegas, most of them have such good ventilation systems you really do not notice. The Tropicanas air system was sub par and we found it terribly smoky!
- Service. The waitresses in the casino were note very friendly, nor attentive while you were gambling. It took a very long time to get a drink. If you go to the bar yourself, expect to pay a hefty $20 for 2 singles.
- Location - Its a little far from the action. Most people spend their time walking up and down the strip anyway, but you are a little far from the fun at this hotel.
- Cleanliness. While the rooms are basically 'new' I still found them to be quite worn for the age and not clean enough for my liking!
- Quite a long walk to the Mono-rail

Positives:
- The pools (seasonally closed when I visted) look like they would be very enjoyable, as the outdoor areas
- Starbucks downstairs
- Spa was nicely decorated
- Food court has REALLY good breakfast sandwiches!

All in all, you can get as good of a deal in a better location on the strip.

I would not re-visit this hotel.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here last year, the hotel is clean and reasonably well located!!
Staff are all brilliant and the rooms are lovely, the renovation work has been really great at this hotel!
Good pool and restaurants. Everything you need whilst in Vegas!
Would definitely stay here again!

the location is great, next to the highway & located on the famous Vegas strip. i spent over five hundred dollars on hotel expenses in just two days at the Tropicana, and the hotel would not comp me breakfast, free drinks at the bar, nor a free show. I also gambled there and there were no” perks” for doing so. the only plus to staying at the Tropicana was that i met a dancing with the stars cast/dance member that invited me to dinner with him. Other than that i give this place an overall.2/5 stars.
