I stayed at the Tropicana a while ago (like January 2011) and after my experience I meant to write a review.. better late than never, right? So here goes...

I moved from the East Coast to AZ early this year and before I started my new job I decided I would treat myself to a long weekend in Vegas. After some elaborate room searching I was able to get a great deal for my stay (I booked 2 consecutive reservations; one for the weekdays and one for the weekend and ended up with a great price!!).

Now when I got to the hotel I was exhausted (I had clocked about 14 hours of travel due to delays and a missed flight). The bellman was immediately offering assistance and got me over to the front desk right away... Small wait at check in but nothing out of the ordinary... and then... The front desk set the tone for my stay.. The front desk agent was being polite and doing that small talk thing that they have all been taught to do (you know what I am talking about) but the difference? She was actually listening... She asked me to wait a moment and stepped away, when she came back she said "I imagine you are tired after such a long day. I've gone ahead and upgraded you to a nice quiet room so that you can relax". She set up my reservations so that I could stay in the same room straight through the weekend and made me feel like she actually cared...

I get escorted to my room by the bellman and he points out all the renovations along the way. Now, I remember my first trip to Vegas about 10 years ago when the Trop seemed to be going in the same downward spiral as all the other Vegas classic hotels (the Sands, Sahara, Frontier... etc). I can only say one thing after walking the renovated "These people know what they are doing and are bringing the gem back!!" The hotel was clean as a whistle, the hallways felt plush as you walked and they smelled awesome. All along the way the bellman made recommendations according to what I said I liked to do... he mentioned some great restaurants, 'must see' Vegas attractions and gave me the 411 on how to get around Vegas and enjoy myself... PERFECT!

Now the best part... The room!!! They did it right... The linens and bed were just what the doctor ordered, the room was massive and had a decent view (it was a view Eastward so none of the casino lights were visible from my room... i.e. I got a full on black out that was perfect for sleeping. VEGAS NAP A SUCCESS). Plenty of storage in the room too! The bathroom was decent and the amenities were great... was it the best bathroom ever? No. But it was all I needed for this stay.

Housekeeping during my stay was more than I expected... The room was immaculately clean each day and when I ran into a room attendant in the hallways they would always smile, greet me and ask if I needed anything (ohh yeah, when I asked for anything, they actually followed thru and delivered).

The casino staff was cordial and polite. I always had a drink within a few minutes of sitting down to gamble and there was regular presence on the floor. The selection on the casino floor was pretty decent

FYI, for the Vegas/gambling novice the Monopoly Big Event machine all the way in the back is a lot of fun if you have a group of friends with you.. play the "invaders from the planet moolah" machine in the middle.. even if you lose it is a hoot and a half.. yes I am easily entertained by some slot machines.

Everything during my stay was smooth and comfortable... I am so glad that this Las Vegas gem is coming back! Check out the Trop!!! I heard that the rest of the renovations are almost completed and that it is even better!! (Ohh yeah, you'd better believe that I will write a review after I check them out again)

I booked the Tropicana after a recommendation and also the reviews on TripAdvisor. I emailed Nicole Marshall initially to request a paradise tower room which was granted on arrival - a fabulous strip view room - thanks Nicole!! We visited for a week in August.

Could not fault the hotel, very friendly, lovely tropical setting and the beds in the room were the comfiest I've ever experienced - both of them! (There was just me & my partner!) Very large bathroom and just cannot fault the room at all! Very spacious and clean.
The pool area was very busy but we weren't very early so might be more available earlier in the day. We only went by the pool once. Gorgeous gardens and lovely pool if small! Slightly strange to be asked for ID for a soft drink however at the bar pool?!
The casino area is small but friendly. We're not a gambling couple so cannot comment more.

The hotel location is on the strip and connected to MGM and Excalibur. Very convenient, however, it is not central. Walking the length of the strip can be done but the walk back is tiring! (Your feet will be very sore if you walk everyday like we did!)
Cannot comment on Club Nikki as we did not go due to a very long queue! The club also seemed very 'pretentious' as did many of the clubs in Vegas, but I may have been wrong! Also didn't eat in the hotel as were tempted away to the buffets and restaurants in the other hotels.

Overall, very happy with the price paid for this hotel and can see it going from strength to strength. I wouldn't stay again, but not due to the hotel; I'd like to experience a different hotel next time as you cannot visit Vegas once - amazing place!!

Room tip: Request the paradise tower - much closer! The lift is right next to the entrance.

Thank you for your review and it was my pleasure to assist you with your holiday. If you look under 30, we do card at all our bars and this does include our pool bar. I apologize if this was inconvenient in any way. To avoid the long walk on the Strip (it all looks closer than it is) I recommend a bus pass for $7 for 24 hours. The bus only goes on the strip and downtown. Nicole Marshall nmarshall@troplv.com

The Tropicana was recently renovated, the rooms are bright and clean, lots of room for 4 people! The pool area was nice and the pool was warm. I like this part of the strip, and it's so close to MGM and excalibur--and just jump on the tram to Mandalay BAy. The monorail was next door at MGM. This casino was the only one that actually paid out any money to me as well.

Firstly, if I was a first time visitor to Las Vegas (and I LOVE Las Vegas!) I'd give this 5 stars. But I'm giving it 3 stars. I want to focus on the good things first, because it has many great points. It's a great hotel, there's no doubt about that, it's in a fantastic location - on the junction with New York New York, Excalibur and MGM Grand - it's light and airy in the casino (and not too large), the staff are amazingly friendly and the price is good for where it is situated.

It's recently been refurbished and they've done mostly a great job. We had a room on the 17th floor in the Club Tower (there's no 13th floor!!) and the view was of the south end of the strip and the pool. Wonderful. The rooms are clean with good amenities, lovely lovely housekeeping staff and a decent size.

Why I've given it 3 stars? Well if it's not your first time in Vegas, you'll no doubt be aware that it's **exhausting** to wander round all day. So you'll want to sunbathe by the pool. The pool is freezing. It was 95 degrees outside, but the pool was soooo cold. Most of the sunloungers were broken. The functional sunloungers were all taken by about 9.30am. Please Tropicana management sort out the sunloungers!! And then to the music. The music piped through to the normal pool area is fab, a mix of good popular stuff, appealing to everyone.... then at 12 noon the music from Nikki Beach starts (the part of Tropicana where you have to be 'beautiful' to lounge in a cabana, and pay to get in - hence it's never full) - now I'm no pensioner - I'm 35 - but the music is SO LOUD it's disgraceful. A thumping bass line of dance music all day from lunchtime that overrides everything else - I had noise cancelling earphones in and could still feel it thumping against my (broken) sunlounger. I really hope someone from Tropicana reads this. It's awful. Everyone around me thought it was awful. Please make it stop. Once the pool area is sorted or if you don't intend to relax at any point, then go for this hotel. Otherwise, don't expect to relax even for an hour!!

Room tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool on a high floor. Unless you're a plane spotter then you'll get an amazing view of McCarran's runway (not really a bad thing, very interesting!!)

Thank you for your review and I apologize we did not meet all your expectations. I am happy to share with you that all the broken lounge chairs have already been replaced and next year the pool will be heated. (You asked, we answered!) Nikki Beach is closed for the season, but we are also working on the noise challenges to ensure the two venues do not clash next year. Nicole Marshall nmarshall@troplv.com

On arrival there are porters there to greet you and take your bags inside which was nice. Checked in straightaway, lovely fresh smell of coconuts. Room was spotless with 42" flat screen tv and large extremely comfy beds, BOSE radio & i pod docking station. View of the airport which we changed rooms the next day for a view of the strip. The customer relations manager Nicole gave us a fridge free of charge to keep my partners meds in which was nice of her, if you`ve got any queries she will be happy to help.Drinks at the pool excellent..Mohito`s were made by them crushing the lime with the mint 1st for maximum flavour but unfortunately at the inside bar the bartender was new and didnt know how to make them so he got his colleague to make them and he just put sliced lime and mint leaves into the glass, it cost $24 for 2 Mohito`s at the bar and they tasted like a glass of soda with no alchohol in and no flavour. So excellent cocktail makers at the pool , so tasty..thankyou. Be careful of taxi drivers, one charged $28 from Freemont to our hotel (should be $20) , they go onto the Freeway if you dont tell them. Wanted to go and spend a lot of money on the last night on the Roulette table but there was only two which were too busy so had to leave it and do it in the morning which wasnt as much fun as was rushed. No Happy Hour by the pool or in the hotel which was unusual. Didnt venture into Club Nikki as wasnt given any tickets by the hotel, until the last night they were giving free tickets to there on the streets on the strip. I refused to go in as didnt want to be used to make up numbers.Im sure its lovely in there. All in all its a wonderful hotel with friendly staff .

Room tip: Ask for a higher floor with a strip view.
