“Cockroaches and dirty towels”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

The rooms in the courtyard are seedy and we found cockroaches in the room. The hotel upgraded us to the tower after an hour and a half of red tape. The rooms were nicer (more like your standard hotel) but we found dirty towels behind the bathroom door. Then we had to call the front desk about an alarm going off forever in the next room.

We had purchased the room through Kayak.com, which didn't say anything about an additional $17 Service fee that the hotel charged upon checkout, even after the poor experience we had. When I complained, rather than refund the Service fee, they gave us free breakfast at the buffet, even though I said that we wouldn't have time to go to the buffet.

Our trip to Las Vegas was supposed to be a first night at the Grand Canyon, then check-in at the MGM Grand on Saturday night. Snow and freezing temps changed our plans at the last minute so we scrambled to find a Friday one-night fairly inexpensive place to stay.

After looking around and reading reviews, we decided to "try our luck" at Palace Station. The location is incredibly easy to get to and best of all, they allow early check-in. If it's before 11AM, they charge you a $15 fee but well worth trying to hangout when you've flown for 5 hours. We got there at 11:30 and the gracious front-desk person said it wasn't an issue and they could get us in a room immediately.

I had booked the "luxury" tower, not sure what that meant in an off-the-strip hotel. Honestly, I was prepared for the worst and found myself pleasantly surprised. The rooms aren't huge but they are updated, very clean and comfortable. We had a lovely view of the mountains and Vegas. The bathroom is very large, granite countertops and spotlessly clean, a huge criteria on my part.

We traveled downstairs to the casino to play a bit and have dinner. The casino is huge with a lot of the newest slot machines; quite a surprise. It's kept clean and well ventilated so the smoke wasn't overwhelming.

For dinner, we opted for something easy and went to the Grand Cafe. I ordered a salad and hamburger and my boyfriend ordered clam chowder, a 12oz strip steak combo with fried shrimp. The food was hot, really surprisingly good and high quality. The entire meal was $33 (minus tip). Seriously? That would be the cost for one person at the casinos on the strip.

Attached to the Grand Cafe is a bakery counter that had a massive selection of some of the yummiest looking treats. We avoided it but while waiting heard one customer get a large apple tart and it was $2 and some change (he got back two ones and change so not sure of the exact cost).

The parking garage is attached to the casino so it's a quick hop into the building. You also have the option to park in the lot, which we did, and it's virtually just outside the main entrance. No valet parking or walking forever to get to your car. They do have valet parking if you want/need it but it'd definitely not required.

When we come to Vegas, the majority of what we do is outside the casino - Red Rock Canyon, Death Valley, Nellis Air Show, etc. At night, we eat at the casino and gamble. We have decided on our next trip here, we'll stay at Palace Station, stay in a mini-suite and pay less than the higher-priced glitzy strip hotels. We can take the shuttle to the strip if we want.

We even toyed with the idea of checking-out of the MGM we're in now and going back there for our last 3 nights in Vegas. I don't think we will but it's ever so tempting.

Overall, this was an incredibly nice, friendly, service-oriented casino/hotel with good, comfortable, updated, CLEAN rooms in the luxury tower. We will be back.

Room Tip: Stay in the luxury tower. They have less expensive courtyard rooms and while I don't know what t...

Pros - stayed in a tower room which was clean, quiet and the bed was great. All staff were friendly and helpful.
This place is convenient to the strip by car - 5 mins away. There are various eating options on site and a 24 hr restaurant.
Con - the add-on daily resort fee. I don't know why it just isn't included in the booking price - feels like an extra ding at the end of your stay, especially when you've gambled there all week and they've more than made extra $ off of you. I still go back, though.

Considering this Starbucks inside does not carry the varies items that 's offered at most franchise stores the customer service is very bad ,and not very pleasant during the A.M. shift from the cashier Sherise..... The display of bad body language ,and service should not be tolerated in a franchise ,or a privately owned store..... She does not fit in with the positive ,and pleasant structure that the professional atmosphere offer to the consumer .......

Ups: rooms are cheap if you book online. Location is great, close to the strip, right off of the freeway, you can get anywhere from here fast if you have a car. Within walking distance to the strip. Sign up for the players club (free) to get great food specials. Food is very good for the price. Rooms are clean but nothing to write home about. Free internet.

Downs: resort fee charged, is an added cost. Slow check in, pool is nothing special at all.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and gracious comp for 3 nites because of previous visit. Also, received 2 free breakfast bars. The BB was great! And what made it extradionary was the Omelet Chef Tony who not only prepared 4 omelets at a time though rout memory, but keep his whole area spotless. I have only witnessed this a few times in my life, for I used to help supervise a Big Boy chain in Colorado and saw many fry cooks who were very good, but many of them did not pride themselves in working fast and accurate but would not clean as you go. The only other person was Ed Duffy. Back in sixties and seventies we were managers and glorified fry cooks, 10 to 12 hours a days, cooking! Then as an extra the service was superb! The waitperson was Terina and had a whole station and at that time there seemed be no bus help and all the plates were ceramic. Yet she kept our drinks full and plates pulled, No attitude just courtesy and hustle! I have come to respect and admire professionalism and only hope these indivuals and paid well, tipped well and are a create to the Food Service industry. Go check them out! We will even if don't stay at the Palace. The rooms were very nice. And overall service was attentive and friendly.

Room Tip: Went through their web site and on a previous trip had some issues with offers being a few dollars d...

This was my second time staying at the Palace Station hotel and casino, and once again this place is still pretty awesome. The tower rooms are really nice. The beds were super comfy, and the room was clean, and had very nice modern features. The food in the Grand Cafe is super delicious, and very inexpensive. The portions are massive, and it's open 24/7. We also had dinner one night at the Cabo Mexican restaurant, and it was also delicious and very inexpensive. The staff are very friendly, and the gaming is world class. The only reason to hit the strip is to catch some shows, or do some shopping. They provide a shuttle bus to and from the strip daily. Get there early, because the bus fills up quick as it's first come first serve. Palace Station is truly AWESOME. My next trip to Vegas I already know where I'm staying.

Room Tip: The Tower Rooms are newer, and pretty awesome.
