“Circus Circus: Las Vegas Strip on a Budget”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

My first experience with Circus Circus was in 1990 and Las Vegas was then billing itself as family friendly. Those days are long gone but Circus Circus is still an affordable stay in Vegas. If you don't want to immerse yourself in the glitz and the glamor of The Strip or if you have kids in tow and a budget to follow then CIrcus Circus is the place for you. The staff were friendly and helpful, the outdoor pools and hot tubs were well supervised and maintained and the breakfast buffet was on par with any other stop on The Strip. Trapeze artists still fly through the air by the Arcade and kids of all ages still oooh and aaah. Our only two complaints were no Coca-Cola products on-site and after our first night there was no replenishment of the complimentary coffee with the cleaning of the room. That early morning issue was rectified with a simple phone call requesting coffee. Having said all that, once my wife saw the pools of the MGM Grand from the monorail she knew where our next stay would be at. She likes the glitz and glamor!

Room Tip: A West facing room gives you the sunset over the mountains...beyond the parking lots and highways...

Green Features: As with most hotels nowadays your linen and towels won't be changed unless asked or tossed on the floor.

Overall my stay at Circus Circus was great. There was so much to do. At check in our Agent, Alma, had the best customer service! The line was long but moved fast. It was great to have a staff member directing people to expedite the check in process. There were many places to eat. We really liked the pizza at the hotel pizzeria. The Adventuredome was busy and seemed to be a great place for the family. We stayed on the 34th floor and our view was really nice. I liked that they had a Keurig for coffee in the room (other hotels on the Strip should follow their example). The room was good, nice and clean. All of the staff from valet to check in to the door persons were very friendly and helpful. I must warn that there are children everywhere. A stay at Circus Circus is for either families or a very casual low impact vacationer when compared to other Las Vegas hotels.

The hotel is ok to live , feels a little out of space compared to other casinos. But the adventuredome is good and the kids enjoy it a lot.Not much restaurant options like others and a bit far from the strip, unless you like to walk a lot.

Circus Circus continues to evolve, from a very low buck Hotel two more of a midpriced place to stay... Still too many kids running around due to the attractions and the arcade... But the casino in the hotel have upgraded nicely...

Room Tip: Stay away from the manor rooms outback!!

I stayed here 3 times. Once with children. I honestly couldn't fault the place. So much to do, so many places to fat from pizza to top class steak restaurant. Location was ideal. Any requests we had were met. Loads for children and adults to do. Excellent value for money, would definitely return

We are a family of four and stayed at Circus Circus in April, the hotel is huge and has two parts to it. it took a while for us to find our way around. The complex has a large amusement park and shops. Our room had two queen size beds in it, it was very clean and tidy, however we were dissappointed that the room did not have a fridge. We contacted the main desk and they said one was available for a fee..not happy about that when you want to keep your water cold and have kids with you.
The hotel is located at the far end of the strip and it takes a good 20-30 minutes to walk to where the main casinos and shops/resturants are located. This was fine for us in April as it was still a pleasant 27 C.
This hotel definately gives you value for money.

I've seen a lot of posts about the "Manors" that are separate and behind the casinos.

We'll here's another one.

We booked through hotels.com via recommendation from one of the MGM staff, got a good deal on the 2nd or 3rd highest costing room (Single king, tower room) originally. When we arrived at 11am the lady told us "There are no more single kings available", and she gave us a dual queen room in "Manor A" - so having been to Vegas before, we automatically assumed from the "Manor" comment that this was an upgrade... until she told us the location. We had to go out of the casino, across the rows and rows of parking garage and across the street to a 2 story, shabby, extremely old Motel 6 ripoff that they claim as part of their hotel. Okay, we were excited to be in Vegas, it couldn't be all that bad... snubbing the fact that it had a 32" CRT (old tube) tv and 14 or 15 channels... we decided that since we were going to be simply sleeping there, we'd play it by ear.

Night 1 we drop off our bags, and hit the strip. Upon our return we go into our room, turn on the lights and in the bathroom there are several desert cockroaches. HUGE roaches, the likes I've never seen. After going on a killing spree of roaches (which we got on tape to show the hotel staff) we examined the room a little closer.. since it was time to sleep. Nothing else seemed to out of place, so we made a call to the nigh manager at the check in desk, and he assured us that the roaches would be delt with or we could switch rooms to the same Manor... So knowing what we paid for, we left it to the housekeeping or whomever to deal with this issue while we were out the next day. We were very tired after walking the 4 miles to MGM and back in the middle of the night.

The next day when we got in to shower, there was old soap on the top of the shower, the floor had what appeared to be a clear sticky liquid or lubricant all along the wall between the bath and the toilet, the water pressure was horrid, the shower handle itself had thick calcification crud on the nozzles.. so we notified the housekeeping lady in the hall.

The next night, while we were gambling in the casino, we heard loud pops which we thought were part of the carnival. As we were leaving to go to the Riverra across the street for dinner, we see the front of the hotel's glass doors shot up with gun shots (also captured on camera). Not fully reassured by the Bullet Proof Glass that this was the best place for kids nor adults REGARDLESS OF THE PRICE.

Now, upon checkout I elevated my concerns with hotel management at the VIP check in, and was told "We will issue you a refund, and upgrade your next stay for free"... Well a free stay.. I definitely can't complain about that...

2 Weeks later, back at home, still had not seen refunds.. so we call the MGM accounts payable team. T hey say that they issued the RESORT fee but hadn't issued any credits on rooms or stay because that wasn't in the system. So the lady said she'd check into it and call us back the next day. Didn't happen. 5 days later I finally call back and talk to another lady, who informs me They can't refund anything booked through a 3rd party - I'd have to call the 3rd party (Hotels.com). So I called them, they called the hotel and put me on hold for 20 minutes. After the wait they come back and say they can't get authorization to refund my money. So I call the Circus Circus hotel back, speak with a manager who tells me "We don't show it in the computer, and we can't validate the request' so I ask to be elevated further, until I finally get Cathy, a hotel manager who was NOT treating me like a thief. The request is STILL pending, however she was very courteous and seemed to care, even though I was very harsh with her at first (Given the 3 weeks of annoyance, and the 2.5 hour phone call to follow up). Cathy may be the only redeeming factor to my horrible honeymoon stay.

NOW, with that said - I did have family and friends that have stayed in the refurbished area of the West Tower and family that stayed in the Casino tower that said they are worth the price. Nothing super fancy, but kid appropriate. Granted the deal is right, and Cathy delivers on the rectification of my issue, I would consider staying in the main hotel - but anyone considering or unsure if they are going to get a "Manor" on their reservation... DO NOT DO IT. It's in a back alley, scary, has no wifi signal, smells bad, and is poorly cleaned.

I spent $180 when I returned getting my clothes cleaned professionally before I brought them to my apartment for fear of roaches.... So I'm determined to get this rectified.
