“Mixed feeling about hotel/casino”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

Customer service here is either wonderful or horrible. Marty in guest services area (I believe) is awesome, most the front desk agents are frankly quiet rude. Our room was very nice, room 2542, we lucked out and got a corner room with a nice view of the new Strip. Upon check-in I asked about Wi-Fi and was told its a $10 fee a day per device but the fee was also included in the "resort fees" so note that Wi-Fi maybe included in the fees you pay. After getting home we noticed through our bank account that we were charged for the deposit and called about it. The person who I spoke with was very rude and hung up on me. Again, horrible Customer Service, with no answers. They need to seriously add a couple people to their phone line answering system. During our stay we needed to call about a possible room change (nothing with the room it was just exceptionally windy and the windows were making a noise that would have made it impossible for me to sleep. I am a very light sleeper) I sat on the phone for over 13 minutes being bounced back and forth (I could hear someone pick up and then put the phone and immediately out it back on hold and then after a couple minutes it would ring somewhere and the same thing would happen) and then gave up.The Casino was always nice and played good music all night and day.

Room Tip: 2542 has great views, may not be a good room if is suppose to be windy. There was ALWAYS a wait for...

Richard, Ivan, Spyder & Luciano can juggle a busy bar with missing a beat. The drinks are tasty and the service is top drawer. We love these guys.

As a downtown local, we know EVERY gem in the area - and we pretty much exclusively drink, eat, and play here.

So belly up to the Long Bar, get a high-five, and drink until you start thinking, "heh... I could juggle like that..."

We were staying at the D for the music festival that was downtown. Our room reservation was made and then confirmed again the day of by phone that we would have two queen beds. Upon arrival we were told there were only single King rooms available and that our previous booking and call were just "requests". Seeing as how there were 4 people, which we registered for, this was not going to work. We were literally told we could sleep on the floor, which I am not above, but being that that was not what we paid or registered for we were pretty upset. Eventually after a bit of push back the mgt somehow found a double queen in a smoking room (we requested non-smoking) but we took it anyway. The person in line next to us was also getting the same story as well.
This was unfortunate since the room was not terrible and I have always had good experiences with hotels in Vegas. When mix ups have happened before the staff is always accommodating and apologetic. The postives were the location and comfortable beds, that is it.

Thank you for reviewing your recent experience with us. We try our best to honor room requests but during extremely busy weekends such as the Life is Beautiful Festival, we can not guarantee which rooms will be available when a guest is ready to check-in. We do appreciate the feedback and apologize for the curt response you received from the employees working at the Front Desk.

We stayed at the Excalibur for 10 years but it changed to a younger peoples Casino several years back and we left, we came to the Fitz then it was known as The D, we love Fremont and have stayed here exclusively for the last 5 years 3 - 4 times a year...sorry to Say we just booked the Nugget...with a $20 resort fee per night it was something that we felt was a money grab....I could get free internet almost anywhere on fremont or from McDonalds inside the D just logging into unprotected WiFi from other businesses. we were told that the $20 resort fee would be offset by lower prices...well doing the math the Nugget is a lot cheaper now .....Sorry to go but in our case a money grab in these days and times just isn't right....I am sure many people will stay and my little loss will be nothing...but at least for me it is a big deal

Room Tip: When we stayed here we asked for rooms away from the Fremont experience and in a higher floor

Although we have added the resort fee, our room rates have been lowered to keep our prices competitive with other hotels downtown and the fee include free Wi-Fi and a $10 coupon towards show tickets. Thank you for sharing your concern about the resort fee as we do appreciate the feedback.

I was a little worried based on the bad reviews but I did not experience any problems here.

Every employee I met was friendly and helpful. Never waited more than two minutes for an elevator, but did have to go up to come down twice as they were full.

Room was clean and the plumbing and TV worked fine. Air conditioner was very loud, but it helped drown out the noise from Fremont Street. (If you like to go to bed early, this may not be the place for you). I didn't ask for a high room away from Fremont Street as I didn't plan on going to bed early.

The music in the downstairs casino is loud, but not too loud. Spoke easily with dealers, bartenders, etc.

Casino had great music and dancers downstairs and vintage games upstairs. The location is great.

The room and hallway was quiet, other than the Fremont Street bands. Didn't hear my neighbors, doors, running in the halls, none of that.

Housekeeping was very friendly and efficient.

Will most likely stay here again next time depending on price. Resort fee just because everyone else has one, so...

It's not frequent that I'd write down a bad review. But I'd not blame it on the hotel alone, it's our own fault too. It happened that we booked this hotel because of appealing price - it costs 25$/night without resort tax. Another reason we booked this hotel because of its location just right on Fremont street. We booked and required non-smoking room with higher floor. It turned out once we checked in, all non-smoking rooms were booked out. My mom is allergic to cigarette and there is no way we could change the room. Spraying with refreshing fragrance doesn't really help as the smell of smoke is everywhere - blankets, rug, and even toilet towels. If we checked in earlier that night we would have changed our stay. Thing got even worst when we stayed in the lower floor. The noise from Fremont street is unbearable. So here might be a suggestion for those who are looking for a hotel in Las Vegas: I personally think that downtown Las Vegas is a bit run down so it's much better to stay around the Strip area. It's okay to stay here as it's quite convenient to access Fremont street with free parking service and IF you don't mind to stay in the smoking room and you are there to be out all night in the casino or strip club rather than room hotel room so you just can leave your stuff there. But for those who are looking for a real relaxation with comfortable stay, I'd suggest to book hotel along the Strip line with a little bit higher price but you'll enjoy your stay more in Vegas.

Room Tip: Hotels along the strip are much better in both party and attraction. Please don't care about it...

Thank you for the feedback from your recent visit. Although we try to fulfill the room requests of our guests, rooms are based upon availability when the guest checks in. It's unfortunate to hear that your particular instance deeply impacted your stay with us in a negative way and we wish we could have done more to make your stay more enjoyable.

Stayed at the D in October - while some complain that at night the casino is loud, all of my friends thought it was a reasonable level (we're in our 40's). Derek Stevens is an approachable owner, who is more than happy to talk to you in his own casino. I liked the fact that the blackjack rules were reasonable, and the minimums are lower. For those who want a quieter experience, the 2nd floor has plenty of slots and video poker machines which are coin machines. The rooms were fine for what we wanted, and had some of the most comfortable beds I've stayed in. All the employees we encountered were friendly and willing to help you, and there were no issues. I'll definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: If noise is an issue you for at night, request a room away from the Fremont street experience.
