I was here for a 2 night stay for a work conference. I felt like the Rio is the blue collar version of the better hotel/casinos. All of the staff were very nice. The location is off strip so getting other places requires a ride.
Casino - I only played a few games but the casino floor seemed like every other casino floor during the day. I was not out there at night to see how alive it was but I assume night would have been similar to daytime. Overall I was happy with casino but my time spent there was minimal.
Hotel - I stayed in the Masquerade Tower. The signs to find this place are not the best so it was a little trial and error. I spent most of my time in my hotel room working (when I was not at a convention or on the casino floor) so this is where I was hoping the Rio would excel. The room is very below what I expected. The Rio was not cheap so I expected it to be similar to the other places I have stayed (Flamingo after the remodel, Encore, MGM, Aria, Vdara). It was definitely lower class then all of these. It felt like it was from the 80s or 90s and it felt a little motel-ish. The bathroom was old - old shower, old wallpaper, no garden tub, a little moldy, the shower did not get very hot. There was a dressing area/make up area outside the bathroom which I did like. The room was weird. There was a large couch that had no view of the TV. The light fixtures and furniture were old and scratched/tarnished. The bed was just fine as were the pillows. AC was fine. Finally the room service was good but the menu sucked. For people traveling for work we like to have a better menu to chose from. God forbid a piece of fish be offered. And they know they will have business travelers because they have a convention center.
So overall I would not choose to stay here again. I would not recommend this place to a friend.
