We took the tour to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon with the helicopter ride.
There were 6 of us in our group. The day started with a pick-up at our hotel, and a drive to the airport. We were picked up on time and made 2 stops at other hotels on our way to the airport.
At the private airport building we waited briefly to check-in. Each member of your party is weighed while carrying whatever they are taking on the plane. Your weight is visible only to the employee, not everyone you are with. You are then given a card which has your seat # and colour group for the plane. There are comfy couches to wait and some snacks & souvenirs for purchase. They didn't have any gum for sale, but did have free mints.
When it is time to board the pilots call out your colour group and then go through some safety rules. Then on to the plane for the 45 minute flight to the Grand Canyon. Our flight was smooth and we landed slightly ahead of schedule.
You are then taken on a small bus to the Grand Canyon south rim. The first stop was Bright Angel Point where we had an hour or so to look around and take photos. You are also given a box lunch of a turkey sandwich on a croissant, bottle of water, bag of chips, and 2 cookies. All tasty.
You then get back on the bus. We were a little ahead of schedule so the people taking the helicopter were given 15 minutes at the next stop, those not taking the helicopter ride had an hour. This stop was Mather Point. We all liked this area better than the first. The views were amazing!
Back on the bus to the helicopter. This was the first helicopter ride for all of us, so there were some nerves, but it was awesome! We were in the air for about 30 minutes and got to see so much more of the Grand Canyon than we would have seen from the ground.
Then on the plane back to Las Vegas.
All in all this tour was a highlight of our trip. It was pricey, but definitely worth it! All of the employees we encountered were friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend touring with them!
