Spacious modern rooms, plenty of covered parking, helpful/friendly staff, good restaurants, & plenty of in-hotel activities (bowling, bingo, Century multi-screen Movie Theater, equestrian center, etc...) to keep you entertained. The single queen bed rooms have are huge and have a sofa with coffee table in them. The Thomasville furniture is well made and quite comfortable. I'd really like to know what mattresses they use because I slept really well with none of the back issues I sometimes experience at home/other hotels. Best night (s) sleep I've had in years. Bathrooms are huge and have plenty of room for both of you to use the counter area when getting ready. For those of you traveling with individuals needing wheelchair accessible access, this Hotel is fantastic. Being one of the relatively newer Hotels, they had quite a large selection of accessible rooms available (1 king, 2 queen, spacious roll-in shower w/ bench, etc...). While South Point has followed the other Hotels in charging a 'Resort Fee' the $14/day they charge is cheaper than the $20 - $30 that the other major Strip Hotels are charging. Unless people stop going to Vegas, the resort fee will become like rental car airport concession fees in that they are here to stay.
Their dining choices cater to all tastes. I enjoyed the Coronado Cafe (24 hr American style breakfast Lunch Dinner - similar to a Dennys or IHOP), the Steak-n-Shake (burgers, shakes, fries - similar to Johnny Rockets or Mel's Diner), the Garden Buffet (Friday & Saturday seafood nights were my favorite - make sure to join the South Point player's club and use the coupon you received at check in for a substantial discount on the cost), and the Primarily Prime Rib (Delicious prime rib w/exceptional service).
The casino & lobby area is well laid-out, spacious, and doesn't feel cramped. I had plenty of room to get my wheelchair-bound companion through the maze of tables & machines to play the games of our choice. I wish that their air recirculation system in the Casino area did a little more to filter out the cigarette smoke, but it does a better job than most hotels and at least it doesn't make your clothes wreak like the hotels off Fremont Street do.
Driving tips: South Point is located approx. 5-10 minutes South of the main strip right off the I-15 freeway. Be careful if driving the I-15 freeway though. You must plan to get in to the exit lane approx. 2 miles before the actual exit, as there is a concrete barrier between the exit lanes & the rest of the freeway. A few years ago, you could wait till you see the Hotel you are heading to & take that off-ramp. Now if you wait till you see the attraction you are heading toward before making the lane change it will be too late and you will have to take the next exit. Also, for you car renters, keep in mind that the Car Rental facility is so huge and far away from McCarran Airport that it is in another county (Henderson). Plan for extra time when returning a vehicle so that you have enough time to get back to the airport after dropping off your car. Lastly, learn to use the side streets (Koval Lane, Frank Sinatra Dr, Russel Road, etc...) instead of Las Vegas Blvd to get between strip attractions. You will save a lot of time being stuck in traffic.
