Outback has a good menu selection and they are consistent in prep and service. I'm not big on red meat but the salmon is always fresh and cooked just-right. Salads are good and the house wine is a good value.

Today we visited the Outback Steak House that is in front of the Vegas Premium Outlets South. I normally don’t do Outback; in fact I normally don’t do steak houses. Why? Because the two best steaks in the world are the ones my wife cooks, and the ones I cook. My wife grew up on a cattle farm and we are steak experts. With that said, I was given a gift certificate to Outback so we decided to give it a try while on vacation.

Vegas is home to many great steak houses. What makes many of them great is the way that their food is presented, and the beautiful dining rooms in which they present those meals. Meal can, and should be properly aged, but most restaurants including the most famous steakhouses in the country don’t properly age their meat.

You are not going to find white table clothes or tuxedo dressed wait staff at Outback. The meat I had today was decent, not great, but if you took the same meal I was given at Outback and presented it at many steakhouses, and then charged $39 for the meal instead of $9.99, you would have many people saying it was one of the best steaks they have ever tasted. That is a sad but true fact. Today’s steak was good, not great, but dinner for two with tip was about $36. I call that a pretty decent deal, especially for lunch!

What was missing in quality for this meal was the shrimp. The three shrimp put on my plate were pitiful at best. We are from Louisiana where seafood is king. Any person from Louisiana would have been ashamed to have presented those shrimp to family or friends, and no restaurant (including our Outback Steakhouse) would have given those shrimp to a paying guest. One comment on the sides came from my wife. She loved the sweet potato.

As for the service, we had a sweet lady named Barbie who shared with us that she was 8 months pregnant. She was about as nice as any server we have ever had, and even shared her opinion on some other places we have chosen to eat later in the week. On a scale of 1-5 she was a solid 5, especially when you consider how hard it must be for her to wait tables when she is “about to pop”. Good luck to her and her new family!

Remembering that we save the rating of four and five for really good places we will rate the Outback a high three. The steak was okay, and the shrimp was poor, but the sides were very good.
