I can't believe that they've been open for 5 years and I'm the first to review this little gem of a cupcakery. Brian, Kari and the crew do a fantastic job of baking the cutest cupcakes and most AMAZING cakes. It's a small mom-&-pop so be sure to order way ahead if you're interested in a cake. Lots of cupcake flavors are available every day but again, if you have a special order, give them some notice. Retro is not located on or anywhere near the Vegas strip so there is a $20 delivery charge, well worth it if you're ordering a couple dozen for a gathering since their cupcakes are probably 75c less than any strip cupcakes so you would have spent that $20 anyway. They have even started shipping cookies nationwide, I might have to try some.
On a couple of trips to Vegas, we rented a car just so that we could get to Retro Bakery in Centennial HIlls and to Layers Bakery in Henderson. Hey, what can I say, we are not so much into slot machines but we DO love us some cake. AND BUTTERCREAM.
Okay, now for our favorites at Retro..........I gotta go with the Pucker Up (raspberry-lemon), the brownie sundae (complete with a drizzle of choc sauce) and the Cookies and Milke (complete with a homemade mini choc chip cookie on the top, are you kidding me???) Harold goes for the Maple Bacon and Big Kahuna...you can check out all the flavors on their website.
Gigi's is good, Magnolia and Sprinkles are super famous, we like Crumbs and Bouchon and Pattibakes too....but when it comes to cupcakes, I gotta tell ya, RETRO TAKES THE CAKE!!!
