Right well, I'll admit to being suckered in by the name alone and honestly I was curious, just how British is this supposedly British pub and grill? The answer is, not very. I had the Fish and Chips. I mean, if you can't make that, then you can't call yourself a British eatery and as it turned out no, they couldn't make it. England might be the land of bland food but Ramsay's Pub and Grill managed to out-do itself in terms of sheer blandness. I've never had fish that lacked taste as much as this. The batter had nowhere near the crunch that I'd expect and had no flavour of its own either, providing only a little texture and the fish tasted only of the lemon juice I put on it. The portion size of the fish made it less of a Fish and Chips plate and more like Cod Nuggets and Chips, at least it would have been had they actually served chips.
You'd think, the clue would be in the name. Fish and Chips. But no, apparently chips is now potato wedges, skin and all. A dish so simple there's a decent place to get it on every corner in the UK no matter how small a town you're in and yet this place in Vegas with a famous name on it can't even manage the most basic of fried potato. Look I get it, you want to put your own spin on the dish, but it's not bloody fish and chips if you don't include any chips. Maybe I'd have let this $30 platter of dismal disappointment go if it was actually what it claimed to be on the menu but it was nothing but an expensive pile of lies.
The waiter noticed I hadn't eaten much and asked if I didn't like it. He then brought his manager over who asked for feedback, claiming they'd had several other complaints. Well I appreciate her honesty and willingness to take it off the bill but it's got Ramsays name on it, you think they'd be beyond asking customers how to make Fish and Chips. I'd find better Fish and Chips in a roadside Little Chef on the A1 and only the most desperate lost souls dare eat there.
5 quid at any local chippie in the UK will give you far more and far tastier fare. This place sums up Vegas, I gambled on what should have been a sure thing and lost. I'd rather have eaten the poker chips.
