“OASIS IN THE DESERT”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

My wife and I recently had the opportunity to return to Las Vegas. On this occasion we stayed at the Wyndham Grand Desert on East Harmon Avenue.
The staff were very responsive and accommodating to our needs and most helpful with any request we made. The property, grounds, rooms, pools and all of the services we used were in excellent condition and in keeping with our expectations. All in all the experience was definitely worth repeating. When it came time for the seemingly obligatory sales pitch, to become involved in time share properties we simply declined and no further mention was made of the issue.
This type of accommodation may not be ideal for all travelers, however there are some definite perks in having the spacious accommodations and well maintained amenities close at hand.
We found concierge service was reliable, with a gentleman by the name of Ira, a very friendly and knowledgeable source of local information. Likewise Janet, a supervisor in reception, was understanding and helpful when our travel plans were suddenly interrupted.
The net result is that the experience was positive in respect to our personal tastes and preferences. Two thumbs up to the staff at Wyndham Grand Desert, Las Vegas.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pool area, otherwise you are looking out over a variety of construction...

This was our third trip to Las Vegas, our first in May and the weather was much hotter, but beautiful, and our first through the timeshare and off of the strip. During the day the walk is short and not too bad, but I would not walk this few blocks at night....you may be braver than me though. The free shuttle to Harrah's is really convenient, but only runs 8am - 10pm which may not suit everyone's needs. However, we did find that from Harrah's you can transfer to the Rio and take late night shuttles back to the Grand Desert from there. Again all free. Side note: the Harrah's shuttle will also take you to Fremont street for free, so you don't need to pay for a $15 per person excursion through the hotel. The hotel itself is nice. There are three towers surrounding a cluster of pools, one is adult only and serves cocktails. Each pool area has a hot tub and is well equipped with towels. None of the areas felt over-crowded, even on a holiday weekend. We stayed in tower III which is the newest and the only one with a 24 hour pool. The rooms are large and well planned. Very clean! Everything you would need to cook is in the kitchen, but with so much amazing food steps away we did not use this feature much. I loved that the bathroom had separate sinks and a jacuzzi tub that was in its own separate nook looking into the bedroom. The bed is large and comfortable, with enough pillows and stored extra linens that you can customize. There is a store and cafe on property, nothing special. The cafe is basic and the store is a combo convenience/souvinere shop. We have been RCI members for years and did sit through the timeshare meeting. They are not the pushiest Wyndham staff that we have encountered, but they are right up there. However, for a free breakfast, show tickets, resteraunt vouchers, and free slot play, we could afford 90 minutes and a polite "no thank you".

Room Tip: Tower III is the newest and closest to the strip. Ask for a pool view room, the other side overlooks...

Green Features: They supply an Eco-friendly bath product line. Otherwise, nothing out of the average.

5 adults stayed here from may 3-9. Overall it was a very nice and very clean resort. The pools were fabulous, especially the adult pool. We enjoyed the hot tubs and the fire pits at night. It was not very hot the week we were there so we didn't spend as much time at the pool as I thought. Still very very nice. They have 3-4 gas grills set up if you want to use them, which was a nice set up.
Now, would I go back? I have mixed feelings. I thought it was a bit far from all of the action on the strip. I think next trip I will stay at a hotel on the main strip because we like all of the action. There is a shuttle that will drop you and pick you up from harrahs, but that got a little old so we actually chose to walk a few times. It was a bit longer then you would think.
Rooms were large and very clean and nice. The room I was in was located right outside the kitchen which was annoying in the mornings because I could easily hear everything. We had a view of the strip, but it was from a distance. We all noticed many ambulances passing on the Main Street throughout the night which woke us up a few times. Must be the emergency vehicle route. You could also hear the music blasting from the mirage pool party in the afternoons. You are in the middle of the main strip and hard rock hotel. We walked to hard rock hotel several nights because it seems closer. Be careful crossing roads.
We went to see penn and teller which was great. We also saw cirque de solei, love. It was awesome. We went on a bus trip to see Hoover damn and Grand Canyon one day, I highly recommend it, very beautiful!
We had a great time and Vegas is a very fun place. There is nothing wrong with this resort except for being a little too far from the action for us. If you aren't interested in partying and casinos and being in all of the downtown action the this is definitely the best place for you-not me.

We have belonged to RCI for many years and have had our share of not-so-great resort stays. We decided to take a chance on this place because of its good location and good reviews. Glad we did! We were in Tower II overlooking the pools. The first thing that struck me emerging out of the elevator was it was not only bright and fresh, but it smelled so good! There were some noisy people the first night, but after that it was quiet, and there was absolutely no noise coming from outside. The unit itself was extremely nice, well-appointed with plenty of room, and with our own spa tub. I especially liked how we had our own in-unit washer and dryer. All kitchen utensils, dishes and pots and pans seemed to be brand new, and we had plenty of towels. The only thing that seemed odd was that no washcloths were provided, not even when asking the housekeeper on our floor. We had a vehicle so weren't dependent on walking, although the Strip is very close. There seemed to always be parking places in the covered parking area. And the Wyndham provides shuttle service. We opted to try the Station casinos since there are several different ones around town, and the generous buffets are so reasonably priced. However, there is a nice kitchen if you prefer to eat "at home". The pool area is very nice with 3 or 4 jacuzzis, and the and landscaping is beautiful. We highly recommend this spot if you're making a trip to Las Vegas!

Quite hyped about the upgrade to presidential unit but disappointed. It is nothing special that we can tell. Very plain and not up to the quality expected/anticipated. At first they were going to put us in building 3 with views of asphalt parking lots. Pool view in tower 1 are nice, at least.
Anyone know how to get a really nice room here?

Room Tip: Beg for a view of the pool. All others see parking lots and "local" apartments

Not much I can complain about. Stayed in Tower 1 (near the adults only pool). Very well furnished room with a Jacuzzi. Adults pool was fairly warm, with a good amount of seating around it. Also liked the no smoking policy by the pool. Everyone working there was very friendly and helpful.

Also, we saw people working on the grounds multiple times during our week-long stay, which tells me that they're doing a good job of keeping the place up.

Food at the snack shop by the pool was good enough, except for the eggs. That's my only criticism - avoid them at all costs.

Room Tip: If a good view is important to you (it wasn't to us), ask for a pool view, or a strip view

I really enjoy Wyndham Grand Desert as it's just walking distance off the strip. It has a no smoking policy so my clothes, both clean and dirty, don't smell like cigarette smoke. It's clean. The pool and jacuzzi is 24 hours. And they have shuttle systems but they are very limiting when all of vegas has free parking. I bought my timeshare here so I can have better experiences in Vegas. Last time I went I even used the sauna room for the 1st time.
