Yes it's cheap and supposed to be value for money but even a place offering a night's rest should minimally be kept clean. At first, we thought it was a good thing that we got a room that was near the check-in counter but the first thing we saw when we went into the smoke-filled room was a cockroach. So had to go to the check-in counter again to get a change of rooms. Person-in-charge wasn't apologetic at all, as if cockroaches were a common sight there! Gave us another room, which was similar, no cockroaches this time but a squeaky air-con. I guess you get what you pay for.

There was enough of a gap under the outside door that we kept getting a lot of smoke in the room until we started stuffing towels in the gap. The hotel deals with this by spraying a ton of air freshener in the room each day - we had to ask them to stop because it was as bad for asthma as the smoke. The room was comfortable, but maintenance needs to catch up with the problems. We had to go to the office to get the security latch on our 1st floor room door replaced - it was broken off. And the carpet was so filthy that you had to wash your feet before you could go to bed or put your shoes on.

We expected an inexpensive hotel. They are usually tired and worn. No surprise that this one is. That would be fine for the price. But the surprise, as others have mentioned, is that basic utilities are missing - notably hot water, Internet connection and telephone. From Web reviews, I can see that a number of us, over weeks and months, have encountered these problems, though we were told we were an aberration. "Oh, no one else has had a problem," they say sincerely and with great concern at the desk.

They expect you to share one hand towel between two people, and they may "forget" to pick up groceries for the breakfast. The "juice" is low-juice, sugared Capri Sun, and one day there wasn't any.

Your choices here are either to go without basic hotel utilities and services and not bother to secure them, or to make frequent runs to the office to ask for this and that and the other thing. (There was no phone service in the room on some of the days, so not possible to call the office.) You may have to take cold showers some days.

A pleasant surprise is that the AC worked well in our room and didn't make a lot of noise.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a low price for this hotel. Also make sure you arrive expecting a tired, worn fac...
