“JW Marriott vs. Red Rock”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Ok as a big fan of Red Rock it felt like I was cheating on a girlfriend staying at a different hotel right around the corner. I could literally see Red Rock off in the distance. But I wanted to play some golf golf and the JW Marriott had a nice stay and play package available at the TPC Las Vegas so I gave it a try. As far as which one is better I would say they are both both good so it truly depends on what you are looking to do.

The rooms - Really a wash, both were comfortable with large bathrooms. Comfy beds, it was a little annoying at the marriott that the power was on a motion sensor so if you were sitting there watching tv your power and ac would turn off occasionally. The rooms at the Marriott are not as trendy and a little bit dated compared to Red Rock

Restaurants - Not even close, it is the Red Rock in a blowout. I actually went over to red rock most days for lunch. Hachi is as god of Pan-Asian as you will find anywhere, much better than Roys. The yardhouse is very solid. At the Marriott the pool food was ok but service very poor. Much better selection and diversity at Red Rock

Atmosphere - Depends what you like. If you like a quiet sprawling resort type experience you may prefer JW. If you are looking for a trendy hip vegas type experience Red Rock is what you want

Pool - Now here is where it gets tricky. The red rock pool has always been one of the main reason why I llike the place. There is always just one problem, they never heat it enough. And I thought maybe I was just being picky but it is a very common complaint. I mean it can really be uncomfortable. I love the pool grounds but damn. The JW Marrioot also had a very nice pool area, more lagoon resort style with waterfall. Plenty of chairs, nice water temperature. I hate to say it but the JW Marriott pool experience was just as good if not better

Spa - This again depends on what you are looking for. One of my favorite spots on earth is the red rock spa. It has amazing showers and the spa pool is a great place to relax and start your day. That pool is actually very comfortable and tranqual. Now the JW Marriott spa is a better spot isf you are looking for workout facilities. Much more extensive equipment. But..the spa pool is absolutely freezing and their special little jet areas did not work.

Casino - Red Rock, like the atmosphere much more trendy hip Las Vegas Strip feel. JW Marriott, much more of a local feel, kind of quiet. Peopel in reviews complain about the smoke but I didn't find it any different than any other casino. I actually preferred the Marriott/Rampart casino because there were always plenty of low limit tables to play on and their dealers were much more friendly. I like to play when I am there but not a big gambler

So ultimately you can't go wrong with either. If you are a couple looking for a nice getaway I would probably recommend the Red Rock. Red Rock definately feels more lively and has more action. JW Marriott is more relaxing and resort like. But if you are a golfer, the TPC package was great and the golf course was very nice.

This hotel is near Summerlin. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and well kept. It has a spacious casino and some great restaurants within the hotel. We had a late night dinner at the Irish Pub and the food (appetizers) was great as was the dark Irish beer. Great Band. The beds in the rooms are to die for....extremely comfortable! Rooms are spacious with huge walk-in closets. The bathrooms are also very large with all the amenities. The grounds are gorgeous with alot of walkways and streams on the property. Great for a one hour stroll in the morning or evening The wait staff reminds me of the wait staff at the Disney hotels.....always smiling and very eager to take care of your every need. I would higly recommend this hotel to anyone and I would defintely stay there again.

Even though my first stay was only for one night, I truly enjoyed this hotel. As other reviewers commented, the rooms are huge and well appointed. The bathroom was luxurious. The hotel staff, especially at reception were extremely helpful and friendly. This is a perfect choice if you want a quiet hotel off the strip.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the lush gardens are wonderful.

We only had a one night stay because of travel but what a night. We asked for a room up high and it was granted with a balcony and beautiful view of the very lush courtyard. The staff was excellent in providing services and information requested. The room was very clean, quiet and what a comfortable bed. Valet staff was extremely courteous. The Hotel is attached to the Rampart Casino by walking through an enclosed walkway. Shopping is only a short distance from the Hotel and cabs are always available.

Room Tip: Be nice when requesting and if it's available I am positive you receive what you ask for.

Stayed at this hotel for a business trip. The rooms are huge and very well kept, clean and updated. The only issue I had with this hotel is to get to the restaurant area or the "free" gym (the one in the pictures is at the spa and you have to pay a daily charge to use it) you need to go through the VERY smokey casino, by the third day I was covering my nose and mouth with a towel or I risked getting a headache. The Irish pub in the restaurant area was very good and priced reasonably. Pool area wasn't open yet but looked gorgeous.

Room Tip: All rooms are away from the casino and very quiet.

I was here during a national sales meeting of the company I work with. The rooms here are truly amazing. They are huge. Each (everyone I talked to said their room was the same) room had a closet that seemed bigger than most cruise ship cabins, a bath that was definitely bigger than a standard cruise ship cabin (twice the size of ours at home) with both a huge shower and a jetted tub for two. The room itself was clean, well laid out and again...huge.

A few caveats about the room. The desk chair was broken in mine. It sat so low that to type at the desk I had to place two pillows on it to reach the keyboard. I am 6'2". Other than that I was thrilled with the room.

I can't say that for the hotel itself. Three complaints:
1) It's a long walk to anywhere. Seriously long. This precluded going back to your room during a day of meetings.

2) To go anywhere in the hotel you have to pass through the casino. Even to get to the spa/gym you have to pass directly through the casino and that casino (even more than others I have been in) is incredibly smoky. Enough that walking to the meeting rooms or the gym gave me an instant sinus headache.

3) And if you are there for a meeting, don't eat the food. It was horrid. Eggs for breakfast were powdered. Bacon and potatoes greasy. Lunch was chicken that was undercooked and a number of people who ate it anyway were sick the next day. Dinner was passable but with leftover veggies and potatoes that were EXACTLY what had been served with the chicken for lunch. Sad for a hotel with such great rooms.

Lastly, if you are considering this hotel for a vacation to Las Vegas, you should have a rental car. It is a $60 cab ride to the Strip. It takes about 30 minutes to get down there and another 30 to find a parking space. I would not stay here if I was here to see Las Vegas. For business, it was OK.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to be the same. No matter where you stay, you will have to walk through the smoky cas...
