“Don't expect Platinum perks.....”
Reviewed October 29, 2011

I was very dissapointed at the lack of perks that I have grown accustomed to as a platinum member at this hotel. The biggest dissapointment was when they lied to me at check in. I asked for a room with a view of the mountains which most rooms have, and was told they were sold out and could not upgrade me. We preceded to walk to a couple of the restauants and bars and there was no one around?? Starting asking the help where is everyone and they told us it was only 50% occupied- which is what I suspected but not sure why the front desk told us they were sold out. They gave us a room in the middle of a soccer team and there were doors slamming and loud talk that woke us up the first night. Then we asked again for an upgrade and cut our touring short to get back and move rooms, and although the second room was bigger it had no view, so was not worth making the change. Also, some of the basic services that you get from ALL other Marriotts did not seem to apply here....no newspaper in the morning, not greated as a platinum member....just a mention that they had my elite status on file, and no special check in for platinum members. All and all the people at the front desk did not seem to care, but the rest of the staff at the pool and restaurant did seem friendly. Also, if you plan on going the end of October, be aware that they take in many teams, so the place has tons of kids, and although well behaved overall, the hallways, restaurants and pool felt like Orlando. I came here from the Cosmpolitan on the strip where they treated me great as a platinum member and was hoping for a quiet place to chill but would have preferred to have extended my stay at the Cosmopolitan where their service was so much better than the JW.

Room Tip: wish I knew.....

Stayed at this property because we were having a convention. A $60,00 cab ride (one way) from the airport. Old and very tired hotel. Air conditioning did not work, room temp stuck at 75 degrees for 3 nights. The ceiling fan helped, but it was still hot. Stayed in the Palm Court Suites, 6th Floor. Ginormous room, with old furniture, old carpets, and old drapes. Room has a very small step out balcony. There was an plastic bag of trash the maid left sitting outside the balcony door for the entire visit. The guests here are the blue hairs, some families with little kids screaming around.
Casino is boring and not sure if guest are napping or playing the slots. The food is average at best. One bright spot was a Starbucks on the food court level. I would never come to Vegas and stay off the strip. No point, The only reason you stay here is if you have no choice. They offer great rates for conventions and we are all stuck here wandering around the half empty property. Ho -hum, let's hope there isn't another convention in my future!

Room Tip: all rooms are spacious with extra large bathrooms, walk in shower and jacuzzi. Looks like the Rat P...

Located some distance from the Strip, this JW Marriott facility offers comfortable rooms and a high level of service. A recent three-day stay offered an opportunity to enjoy the grounds and explore local restaurants; a casino in the hotel, although small by Vegas standards, offered many gaming options. Be aware that taxi fare from McCarran International Airport is expensive; taxis or limos can easily be shared if traveling with a group. Some furniture is a bit tired, but overall room accommodations were very good.

Came for a conference at this property and was delighted with the facility. Room was spacious, clean and decorated with an upscaled feel to it. The resort has many amenities. The pool was beautiful and well cared for. The many restaurants all had great service and excellent food. Even the banquet food was top notch. I was really impressed with this resort for a conference stay and/or a personal get away.

Room Tip: The Palm Towers are a bit of a walk from the lobby and casino, but the peace and quiet were worth it...

In Vegas, you will find hotels that are newer or more extravagant than the JW Marriott, but there are only a few that can match the old school class and elegance of this excellent desert haven. It’s not the first place to come to mind when you think of Vegas, but it only took one stay to convince me of its place among the premier hotels in Sin City. It’s not perfect and the layout is a bit odd, but it’s definitely a laid back Vegas experience for those wanting less hustle and bustle.

Pros
Friendly staff
Clean and comfortable room – great bed
Non-smoking property
Quiet – feels more like a villa than a casino hotel
Food options

Cons
Off the strip – might disappoint those looking for a “classic” Vegas experience
Non-smoking property

I don’t know where to start because the whole experience was memorable. From the super friendly check-in to the peaceful vibe of the resort property, I just cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Other hotels try to impress you with how new or big their resort is, but the JW Marriott simply charms you with a combination of service and the desire to satisfy the guest. If you’re tired of the loud and hectic environment of the strip hotels, then you’re in for a pleasant surprise desert getaway.

The hotel is off the strip – that’s really my only negative comment. I guess you can say that the hotel’s architecture isn’t as impressive as the newer monstrosities or that the casino floor is dead compared to the ones on the strip, but these things also lend to the overall character of the JW Marriott. By the way, by not being on the strip, you avoid the usual drunk and annoying folks that you meet in the elevators and casinos.

The hotel is perfect for couples or families. You won’t get the typical Vegas experience but it’s kind of nice being surrounded by golf courses and private homes. The breakfast buffet was awesome – I highly recommend getting the breakfast at all JW Marriott and Marriott hotels: waffles and omelets cooked to order, not to mention the fresh fruits and other hot foods. I will post a separate review, but The Carmel Room is a “can’t miss” dining experience. My wife wants to go back to Vegas just to eat there, again.

There are only a handful of hotels that I like to stay at while in Vegas, and the JW Marriott is on that short list. With specials, the rooms are quite affordable, and although it’s a quieter experience than staying on the Strip – it doesn’t diminish the Vegas experience one bit. This hotel is an excellent example of the Marriott chain and makes me want to visit the other JW Marriott locations across the world.

I visited this location for a meeting event that was held near the strip so the purpose of the trip was business but the purpose of the stay was leisure because I stayed there for the weekend prior to my business meeting and then relocated down to the Bellagio on the strip. I completely loved this location. I am a Platinum Member for ten consecutive years so I know a lot about Marriott's.

The biggest thing I will say about this place is that it has incredible ambiance and fantastic golfing. I was fortunate to stay in a upgraded junior suite which consisted of an extremely comfortable bed, large bathroom with a whirlpool tub, separate stand up shower, his and her sinks as well as a big walk-in closet in addition to a living room area. The only downside to the big room is that there was only one large flat screen television in the bedroom and living room area so you could only watch the television at one room at a time and in order to do so I had to swivel the television 180 degrees in order to watch it in the room of my choice.

Amenities here are great. The views from my room are spectacular. I also got a chance to visit the spa a few times there and take advantage of their steam room and sauna. Very nice and relaxing there so I found myself spending a significant portion of time there during the visit. The gym is nice as well with a great view of one of the several outdoor pools. Speaking of pools, they have one of the most incredible views of a huge fish pond that included "oversized goldfish" and several pools. I was slightly inconvenienced on one day because there was a wedding that held on the property so I had to walk around that but I dont consider that a bad thing per se considering that it was for a special occasion for some lucky couple. The even bigger thing to think about here is the fact that the couple thought so highly of the location's ambiance that they chose to get married there considering "Vegas weddings" are not exactly a novelty. Apparently weddings are pretty commonplace there but again, it was definitely nice enough to be married there.

Proximity to strip and area attractions is very good. Just a few minutes away to golf which I was able to play a around of. The Vegas strip is about a 15-20 minute drive away. There is always plenty of taxicab availability to take you there or to the airport as well.

Service was exceptional. From the front desk staff to the concierge to the spa staff and room cleaning, everyone there was a delight to assist. I rated this hotel a four star stars largely because of a experience I had with the shower which at one point backed up and started to emit whatever the hell was in the drain up in towards the shower (not a pleasant experience) so I complained about that and the front desk did compensate my room charges for my breakfast very quickly for that.

So overall, I'd definitely recommend this as a place to visit and stay.

After my training ended on Friday in Vegas, my man and I moved to a hotel in Summerlin, NV called the JW Marriott. I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who is looking to go to Vegas but doesn't like the glitz and glam of the strip and wants something a little more laid back, low key and even a little romantic. ♥ They have jacuzzi tubs in every room, beautiful balconies with French doors that open up to beautiful views of the Red Rock canyon area and they have a casino on site. The rooms are very spacious and the bathrooms are wonderful!! I just wish we could stay longer. The casino has great music at night and we had a blast. Can't wait to come back!! The ONLY thing I can say a little negative is that there are some parts of the hotel that need updating but honestly the grounds area and surrounding views are to die for that you forget about the flowered out-dated rugs and the gold accents. :) Thanks JW Marriott!
