“A new favorite in Las Vegas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2013

Not sure why I waited so long to try this place. This is a traditional Japanese Charcoal Grill House. I sat at the bar and ordered the $100 Omakase menu which included 10+ dishes including one plate of sashimi. Every dish was great. The tofu and the chicken breast with crispy chicken skin stood out. Best chicken skin I've ever had. They also have a very good and extensive sake list. And they do a sampler of 3 sakes for $15 which is good value. Service was excellent. Make reservations as this place gets busy.

“Transformative experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2013

This is a small place with many Japanese customers and an all-Japanese staff. Alcohol prices are steep but the rest of the food seemed reasonably priced for the quality ($4-12 per piece, everything big enough to share). Sake lovers will die for the long list of choices. We sat at the bar (our choice) so that we could watch the staff do their thing. Not sure I'm glad we did since the only thing that bothered me about this restaurant was the sous chefs preparing stuff with their hands, with no gloves on.

But oh, the food! Our favorite was the Raku Tofu, made in house and nothing at all like supermarket tofu. You may never eat the packaged stuff again after tasting this. We also loved the cucumber with seaweed salad, the melt-in-your-mouth pork belly, and the kobe beef skewers. The asparagus okaki good, not great. And the grilled eggplant just plain boring. We shared a tangerine sorbet for dessert and discovered to our delight that it was also house made. With wine and tip, the bill was $120 for two. But note that we ordered some pricy items--for somebody on a budget, it's possible to get out of here for $30-$40 per person. We really enjoyed the evening, especially the charming staff.

A couple of notes to readers: (1) have the address ready for your taxi driver. They don't all know where this place is. (2) you SHOULD make reservations and you can expect to get one or two confirmation phone calls from the restaurant. Be on time.

“The best restaurant in Las Vegas”

This is a hidden little restaurant placed on Decator and Spring Mountain. They serve a lot of different Japanese dishes. Most of them small ones for low prices. Everything on the meny is good!

“Simple Elegance, Fantastic Service, Delicious Food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2013

If you think you've had good Japanese, then you haven't eaten at Raku yet! I can;'t say enough about how incredibly delicious my meal was at Raku. Raku is a traditional Japanese Charcoal Grill, so lots of wonderfully prepared and seasoned skewer options cooked over an open charcoal flame. As other reviewers have mentioned, the menu is both varied and broad. Anyone, from the conservative to the adventurous, should be able to find something delightful to try.

The service matches the quality of the food. The staff was very attentive and took the time to answer questions and explain preparations/techniques guiding us through our selections. Our waiter was very interested in ensuring that we had a fantastic dining experience.

From a cost/value perspective, I was truly surprised. Prices are more than reasonable/affordable, especially considering the quality and level of service!

The only downside to Raku is the location. It is a little off the beaten path and not on the main "strip" in Las Vegas. However, it is definitely worth finding. You will not be disappointed!

“Best Japanese Food Outside of Japan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

I used to live in Japan, and have been living in Vancouver for the past 23 years so I have had a lot of exposure to Japanese food of all kinds. Raku takes the cake, though, in North America as far as I'm concerned. The menu offers a myriad of options, but starts with tofu. How can we go back to eating any other tofu now? We ordered to cold tofu (not agedashi) with chilli. It was absolutely fantastic and reminiscent of tofu in Kyoto. The robata was great, especially the inoki mushrooms/bacon , the lamb and the chicken. We also had cold soba noodles with a poached egg which was amazing. The regulars at the table next to us recommended the fried chicken which was also delicious but I'd suggest trying other things as it was a bit boring.

We arrived about 15 minutes early (didn't realize how far from the hotel it was by cab) and they had us wait at the "bar"- which is really just a counter with a couple of stools. I think we should have been offered a drink there, or even some tea or water, rather than just waiting. That would be my only complaint. Otherwise, it is worth the price of the taxi from the strip and if we're back in Vegas, we would definitely go back.
