“Not Your Holiday Inn Hotel standards”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2013

We were offered this 4 day 3 night stay for $199.00 plus tax to stay at this Desert Club Resort. The only catch was having to attend a 2 hr. presentation on the Holiday Inn Vacation Club resorts. In return, we would receive $200.00 cash back for attending the presentation. We have never been to Vegas so we thought it was a great deal. The location is right off the strip and very convenient to the Venetian and other hotels. The staff were very friendly and professional and promptly checked us into our villa. All seemed well at first - the villa was well equipped and appeared to be clean and well maintained. Our first complaint were the towels - they were very rough, not soft at all. Second, the king size bed did not have king size pillows, instead there were small, half sized pillows. The front desk told us that was all they had in the resort. One of the kitchen chairs had a stain on the seat. We did not eat at the resort so I cannot comment on the food. On the final day of our stay, we noticed that the carpet was filthy! We didn't notice this initially since the carpet is dark in color although after we took a shower and walked into the bedroom, our feet would be dirty! We listed all of our complaints to the front desk upon checkout and was told he would report this to his manager. Incidentally, during our 2 hr. presentation, we commented on the some of the issues and were told that these units are old and if there were any issues or if they didn't have availability, they would have placed us in the Venetian. If you are showcasing your resort for potential buyers into the club, wouldn't you want to ensure that the villas are clean? If the villa we stayed in was old then why were we even placed there? I was not impressed with this resort.

The Desert Club Resort was chosen based on location. It only takes 5 minutes by foot from front door to front door. It is not on the strip - it is behind the strip. The strip is only 12 minute walk - or take a shuttle or cab. The room was very spacious. I would stay here again.

This is a good location if you want to be close to the strip, but want a condo style room. Short walk to the Venetian. The Condo was nice and clean. The kitchen was supplied was everything you needed. There is even a washer and dryer. My biggest complaint with the room, is the bed was not very comfortably. The complex was nice and had several pools, though each one was small. The restaurant is small. Breakfast was not very good. It was crowded, so server was slow. The staff was friendly, but the food was just ok. The do have a shuttle that takes you to Bally. We went to take the shuttle from Bally back and the shuttle was full by the time it was our turn to get on. The driver called for a van to pick up the remaining passenger. Overall, a nice little condo complex off the strip.

A nice little furnished condo, granite counter tops & very nice appliances, king bed with lots of pillows & comfy bedding. A HUGE bathtub, marvelous sink/mirror & separate toilet area. We stayed on the 3rd floor so very quiet, but if you can't do stairs don't ask for this as there are no elevators. We stayed in building 4/room 304, the patio looked over the south parking area but not directly on Koval St. I preferred this as it was very private yet I could still "people watch" out over Koval & I could see the top of the Bellagio's water show from there. They are building the worlds biggest ferris wheel so there is a lot of construction right now but that didn't bother us. Loved the main pool and the Goldmine restaurant right on site, the people that worked there are the best! There is also a mini grocery store in the downstairs of the club house, it was a little pricey but not having to go anywhere for groceries was worth it! My only complaint is that the carpets really need to be shampooed, they turned my feet black. There are complimentary slippers provided, make sure to wear them if you don't like dirty feet!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor are quiet but if you can't do stairs don't ask for it. There are no...

We are glad that you had an enjoyable stay and that our staff was able to provide you with excellent service both at the restaurant and the resort. This hotel was just ok and thank goodness we were only there one night. When we arrived in our room I could not find the toilet. I really had to go and was frantic. There was a door that was locked and at first we thought it might be a connecting door to the next room. I called the front desk and was told the toilet was in there and she would send someone to unlock. I would think housekeeping would have checked that since the door was closed. We figured out how to open the door with a coin like you do at a public stall, anyway turns out the toilet would not flush properly and probably why the door was locked. I called down again and someone came immediately but the next time we flushed it was still not working proplerly. We were afraid to flush or use the next day. When I told the front desk clerk during checkout she seemed bothered.
I'm a platinum and ambassador with IHG and was disappointed at the lack of customer service.

My boyfriend and I left the Hampton Inn Tropicana (see review) and headed across to the other side of the strip to stay at the Holiday Inn Desert Club Resort. He was using points as a Platinum Rewards member and we liked the "condo" type accommodations and the fact we could walk to the strip but stay somewhere with a resort feel that would be quieter.
We arrived at the hotel at noon ready to start what was left of our two days left in Las Vegas. The lady welcomed my boyfriend as a Platinum Rewards member and handed him a newspaper and that's where the perks of the Holiday Inn Rewards membership stopped. She told us check in was at 4 p.m. and we explained that we understood that but were hoping to get into a room earlier as we only had a few days in Vegas. She said she would email housekeeping and let them know and directed us to the restaurant in case we wanted lunch.
We walked around the property then decided to store our bags, grab our swimsuits and headed to the pool. I asked the lady who checked us in if we could have our welcome packet with the pool code and so we could read through it and was told I could not have it until we were assigned a room. She gave me the pool code and a few towels.
The pool was very nice and there was a marketplace store downstairs where we got some sunscreen, water and snacks. We were fine but by 2 p.m. we were over it, especially as we saw people pulling their luggage towards rooms. My boyfriend went back to the front desk and spoke with a different representative who again said the room would not be ready by 4. He asked if we could have vouchers for the restaurant for a drink or a bottle of water and was told no, but he would be first in line to get the room at 4.While we were speaking to this representative inquiring if there was a manager available, another representative came over and told us the policy was 4 and that was the way it was.
We went back to the pool, not very happy about the situation. At 3:30, my boyfriend went back to the desk and spoke to a third person who told him the room reserved for us was having maintenance performed (is that more than housekeeping?) and gave us our keys to a wonderful room right away. This was frustrating as the room he assigned us was perfect and was more than likely available a few hours earlier.
We grabbed our bags and took the shuttle to our room. I asked about the free shuttle as we were interested in going to Freemont Street/downtown that evening. The driver said those reservations should be made 24 hours in advance and to call the desk when we got to our room. After our three flight walk (not complaining, loved the third floor and we knew there was no elevator), I called the front desk immediately to try and get a reservation for the Freemont shuttle. No room available. I did make a reservation for the next night. This information was later found in my check in packet which I didn't have until we got our room at 3:30 so there was no way to make a reservation and no way for me to know that. It would have been nice for the person checking us in to let us know about the shuttle and the schedule. At noon, we might have been able to get on the shuttle for the evening. (A quick compliment to the Freemont shuttle driver Saturday night. He told stories and had us laughing all the way, thanks!)
The room was wonderful. It did have a smell to it, kind of like mothballs, but we were thrilled to be in a room. It was spacious and we loved the outside sitting area (with a porch light) and the washer and dryer were a huge plus. The king bed was in a separate room and the shower/tub was huge. We were in building 13 which was a great location, overlooking a smaller pool and jacuzzi in the middle of several buildings. This pool was lovely as well. When you looked up at the palm trees you felt like you were at a relaxing beach resort.
You could have easily cooked a meal here and we appreciated the wine glasses and large coffeepot. Coming back to this place was always nice and we ordered in one night after a long day and had a great time.
We left at 5:30 in the morning Sunday and called the front desk to pick us up with our luggage and was told there were no vans on the property which was odd when we passed one of the vans (on the property) on our way to get a cab.
This experience left me mixed. We loved the room and the location, but the customer service left much to be desired. While I understand the importance of following rules and procedures no one went out of their way to make sure our stay was anything beyond average.

Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent vacation experience.

While our check in time is after 4:00pm, we always check our guests in if their units are vacant and ready. The weekend is a very busy time and we must assign rooms based on the accommodations requested. The reason why other guests may have been checked in after your arrival is because their specific accommodations were ready (1 bedroom, 2 bedrooms and studios).
We are glad that you liked our accommodations and hope that the delay at check in will not keep you from staying with us again.

We do value your patronage.

Sincerely,
A

My husband and I have been coming here with a group of our friends every year for a week in May. We love this resort (it was great also when it was Summer Bay Resorts). I'm not sure if all of the rooms are renovated, but some are absolutely gorgeous. The location is great, a short cut through Bally's to get to the strip. We made great use of the BBQ area - only complaint about that is that they take your license to use the BBQ tools. I would have much preferred to have left a cash deposit as you could keep the tools for a bit, but if you plan on going out, you'll need your ID around town, The staff is incredibly nice at this hotel,
