we stopped here as an overnight stay on a road trip as we got a decent deal for a Friday night, which included tower passes. It was fine though the rooms need a refurbishment. Roxy's diner was very good. Easy to get down the strip by the bus (though don't go upstairs as it is not air-conditioned!). Was ok but would rather stay elsewhere next time.

We stayed two nights and the price is great, even with the extra daily "resort fee" or whatever it is they call it. Also there is a charge if you want internet access. A big warning that I wish we had know, while it is on the strip, it is way at the end in a less then safe part of the strip, so if you want to walk to the main part you are going to want to stay somewhere else. The room is a little dated but fairly clean, our view was pretty nice. I just wish they had been a little clearer on there location, I selected the hotel in hopes of walking to the Strip, since it's advertised as being "on the strip"
Do not bother trying to eat at the diner there, we went for breakfast at 9:30AM and waited for 15 for someone to take our drink order and no one even acknowledges us, we got up and left.

In July we visited during our holiday Las Vegas two times; the first time it was begin July. We stayed three days in hotel Stratosphere and it was pleasant stay; Clean rooms, nice view over a small part of the strip (we hoped it was a more overall view, but this was o.k). Beds o.k. These days it was very, very hot in Vegas (45 degrees Celsius) and we were happy that our car could bring us everywhere in Vegas. The pool was too hot and less shadow. The view at the top of the tower is briljant (when you have the opportunity visit the tower at daytime and in the evening!).
When we compare this hotel with Silver Sevens, where we spend our last days of our holiday (the price was the same) I should prefer Stratosphere.

Located in a VERY sketchy area well off of The Strip. I wouldn't walk more than five feet from the front entrance without a platoon of Marines around me ( and I am one!). The AC in our room worked only intermittently, and after we complained, a tech arrived at our room at 2:00am. I realize that some in Vegas never sleep but we were. Also, realizing that Vegas is a smoker friendly city, the public areas of the Stratosphere seem to have the worst air handling equipment in the city. Even at 6:00am, the lobby is incredibly smokey. Spend a few dollars more and stay in the heart of The Strip.

Room Tip: Don't book a room anywhere inside this building.

Beware the price you are quoted. Our quote was only about 60% of the actual cost. We paid for an "upgrade" to a room with a view. The view was the back of the sign "Stratosphere" although they did refund the upgrade fee when we complained. We stayed at the Stratosphere because that's the hotel the bride and groom of the wedding we were attending stayed at. The entire place smelled like mold unless it was overpowered by cigarette smoke. The light in the bathroom was a potlight at one time, although the lens and most of the inside of the light was gone and just a CFL light bulb was in the fixture. When I went to iron my shirt for the wedding I found the ironing board of very poor quality with the cover so wrinkled you couldn't use it to iron a shirt very well. The rack for the iron was BOLTED to the wide end of the ironing board and a dollar store type iron attached with a steel cable. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on in a hotel. It wasn't that big of a deal though as there was way too much noise to sleep anyway. We could hear EVERYTHING happening in the room next door like there wasn't even a wall and all conversations in the hallway due to the 2" gap under the door. The shower barely spits water at you, but on the bright side you will not run out of warm water at that rate because there is no hot water to run out of. Towels are a bare minimum and only 2 people are accomodated, we were too disgusted to even bother asking for more as the cleaning staff does not admit to speaking english. Check in is at 3pm and checkout is at 11am but housekeeping was knocking on the door at 9 am so they could clean the room for the next guest. The bride had to have a replacement dress FedEx shipped to the hotel which charged a $5.00 "storage fee" for recieving it and holding it for 5 minutes max, the Fedex guy was walking away when the groom got in line to pick it up at the concierge desk, and to top it off the concierge wanted a tip too. Roxy's diner had horrible food and the waitress was not very freindly when asked about getting no peppers in the hash(couldn't be done as all food is "premixed" according to the waitress). Although McCalls grill had fantastic food there were no prices on the menu and each item is a seperate charge(salad, soup, bread, water, entree, vegatable, potato, etc). Fellinis italian food was very good and the prices were reasonable. I have stayed at many other hotels in Las Vegas and they were ALL better. All restaraunts in the hotel have a tip included in the price, so read the reciept closely and tip accordingly as service is slow and not top quality unless the restaraunt is almost empty.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else if you plan on sleeping.

Not a great experience, not a bad one either. It's on the north end of the strip with nothing around. New Hotels are being built so in a few years there will be more action in the area. If you rent a car this shouldn't be a problem though, just drive to a hotel in the central Strip and stay the day before you drive back to Stratosphere. The carpet had a sticky spot, possibly from gum that wasn't completely removed and the tub was dated and looked like it. I prefer a firm mattress and the beds did not disappoint me. The best part of the hotel are the beds IMO! No microwave, no fridge, WIFI is extra. The only thing good about the resort fee is that you have unlimited rides up the tower for up to 4 people. Basically you get what you pay for and its worth it for your first trip to Vegas for 1 night just to see the view of Vegas from up top at night and then in the morning before you check out.

It is cheap for a reason.

The hotel is about a 1 mile walk from the "beginning" of the strip: Riviera, Circus Circus, & Encore. It isn't bad if you have a car, but if you're planning on walking the strip, you've got a long way to walk before you make it to civilization.

I also was surprised by the $14.99/night resort fee that was thrown at me at check-in. Perhaps it was my fault for not reading the fine print somewhere, but it was an unpleasant surprise.

The room I was in (Specialty elevators) had been recently remodeled. It had a jet tub, down pillows & comforter, and a nice view. The toilet didn't stop running until my husband took off the lid and fixed it.

A perk from the imposed "resort fee" is that you have full access to the observation tower. Others have to pay, but it's free to those staying. Beautiful view at night!

Overall the hotel was fine, but just not too convenient... and pricier than I originally thought.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room away from the vending area. Our room was quite a ways down the hall, and w...
