“perfect location on The Strip”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

My husband and I booked a little winter getaway, three nights in Las Vegas for some gamblin' and couples time. Our package, booked online, got us a premium room at Harrah's for a great price. Here's the low-down: it's one of the older resort-casino hotels on the Strip, and this is apparent in the somewhat dated design of the place. The rooms are clean and cozy but nothing special, the lobby is diffident, the casino area is low ceilinged and is a bit anonymous. But so what? If I wanted big, fancy interior design, I'd be paying big, fancy prices at some of the newer places.

The lowdown is that Harrah's is a comfortable hotel with plenty of amenities, ideally located smack dab in the sweet spot of the Strip. It's right across the street from Caesar's Palace, and next door to the Venetian. The rooms are the usual, and I found them very comfortable, with perfect housekeeping. Front desk staff were efficient and gracious. Breakfast buffet was amazing! Casino staff were without exception pleasant, professional, and friendly: the night we arrived I had a great conversation with a security guard hailing from El Paso.

There's a Dennys (the busiest in the US, I was told) right next door, and a McDonalds, if that's your thing. You can get a free shuttle bus right from Harrah's to The Rio, which has a phenomenal dinner buffet. As mentioned, Harrah's is literally across the street from Caesar's- their poker room is my husband's favourite place in Vegas, I do believe- and it's an easy walk south to Bellagio or north to the Venetian, Palazzo, or the Fashion Show Mall.

Unless you're a high roller for whom nothing but the most luxurious will suffice, I heartily recommend Harrah's as a comfortable base for your stay in Las Vegas, or as we call it, "Disneyland for GrownUps."

Stayed here for 7 nights in February.
The check in process was quick and easy, with a single line.
The room itself was modern, with a large TV, decent bathroom, good shower. The bathtub looked far to small to ever consider using it.

The casino itself is perfectly located for a Vegas holiday, being only a short walk to some of the bigger casinos, and best sights.

Security were abundant, and it felt like a safe place to stay.

Had a decent experience this past weekend. Check in was smooth at 1:30am. Changed rooms after first night from two queens (with a handicapped shower) to a king. Most staff were friendly. Only problem was the minibar we purchased when checking in ($50 of stuff for $20) wasn't in our room when we checked in. Took 3 phone calls/visits to the front desk to finally get one. But it did eventually arrive.
Casino wasn't bad, just didn't seem to have the same atmosphere as other places we visited. Plus it had a strange odour when walking into it from the Strip. You always notice those smells when you walk into some places (Mirage has the pina colada type smell). Well, when you walk into Harrahs, we could always smell a sewage-like odour...not sure if it was coming from the construction, as it was only noticeable on the south entrance. Strange, but true.
Overall, not a bad experience...and great value...but we'll probably try another place next time.

Room Tip: Check in early (4pm ish). We checked in at 1:30am and had very few rooms to choose from.

We stayed in Vegas for 5 nights over from the 30th of December. Harrah's is in a top location, right in the middle of the strip. Across the road from the Mirage, and a 5-10 minute walk to the Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Venetian, Pallazzo and the Flamingo. Couldn't be in a better spot!

We were there to check in at about 11am and the signs say the checkin is at 3pm. Hot tip..! They want to charge you like $30 to check in early but the lady behind the desk was so nice and told us that if you walk about 20 meters into the casino and sign up with "Total Rewards" (which is free), then check in is free! So we were in our room at about 11:15am for no extra charge!

It was very expensive over the New Years period for the 30th and 31st, I think we paid about $289 a night, but compared to the rest of the casinos on the strip, it was cheap. The remaining nights where about $65. But at that time of year it's understandable.

We had a room up on a high level in the Mardi Gras Tower (there are two towers). We could see the strip, sort of, over the roof of Harrah's, but we weren't really fussed. There was a good enough view to be happy with. The room was wasnt huge, but it was big enough for the both of us. There was a queen bed, bedside tables, a huge tv unit with drawers and cupboards attached, a chair and a cupboard with a safe, ironing board etc.

I will comment on the cleanliness, it was fine, clean enough, but I think the rooms are just a bit dated and old, so they look a bit grimy. Also, the shower/bath combo didn't drain very well when having a shower so you're in about 10cm deep water throughout your shower, minor point but worth a mention.

Compared to other casino's, Harrah's is a bit tacky. Its very over the top inside, very low ceilings compared to the others but I think thats the idea. The facade out front is covered with thousands of lights, very in your face, but again, I think it's trying to be old style Vegas as opposed to the other nearby casinos that are very polished and fancy.

We ate downstairs at the Chinese restaurant and it was very good. There's a big burger place that looked ok but it was very crowded so we didn't eat there. You're seriously so close to other fantastic casinos that you probably wont spend much time in Harrah's.

All in all, if you are looking for a cheaper casino to stay at and dont care about a view, this one is for you! Honestly though, staying again in Vegas, I think we would take the hit and spend a little extra money and stay at one of the big name casinos like the Venetian or Bellagio, there's no chance you'll regret it!

If staff was the determining factor for a great hotel, this place is got it. Thank you Olivia for all your help. She works at the front desk, and assisted us like no other person has ever done. Additionally there are helpful staff on all floors that make this a great place to stay. We stayed in a mini-suite and a word of caution; in the Carnival Tower they are located above the loading dock and trash cans, so it can get noisy. Get a room higher up than ours on the sixth floor. Again if you stay there and need assistance, ask for Olivia.

Room Tip: Get a high floor.

We had to stay one night at Harrah's before moving to Bally's. We booked and confirmed that we were getting a room with a king bed. Instead we got a shoebox sized room with a queen bed. Talk about tight quarters, if you rolled out of bed you'd hit the wall. The room was also at the end of the hallway. I'm glad we only stayed one night, There was no view as is the case with all Harrah's rooms. If they do offer you a strip view beware... you will need binoculars to see the strip since Harrah's is set back quite far off the street. We are staying at Harrah's Atantic City in two week for The Who concert. We really don't like staying there either but it was the only one of the Total Rewards casinos that would comp a Friday night. Bottom line is we always have problems at Harrah's (Las Vegas and Atlantic City)
