Check in was hassle free and parking easy. Located by Fremont District. Overall stay very pleasant. would definitely recommend this place to anybody going to Vegas and wanting to visit the downtown area. Felt safe people were having a good time. The room was clean and large. The casino and restaurants we're good definitely looking forward to staying here again. Got the room for $24 a night from bidding on Priceline but in reality it would actually worth twice that. All in all great deal.

Room Tip: The rooms in the tower are best...had to be moved from the pavilion, seemed unsafe, too far removed.

I stayed in a Vintage room at the El Cortez the first week in May, 2013. The Vintage rooms are part of the original hotel - literally just up the stairs from the casino. (There is no elevator.) For the money, perfectly acceptable. I paid twenty-something per night.

Here's where I manage your expectations a bit. It's a great deal, so long as you're not terribly fussy. The Vintage rooms are non-smoking. Why, I cannot imagine. The smoke from the casino downstairs drifts up, big-time. Even the pillows smelled slightly of smoke. The bathrooms are older and small, but fine. No comforter or spread on the beds - just a sheet and a blanket. At any rate, it was cheap, clean, and "fine."

The area seemed plenty safe, there are lots of food and bar options a few steps away, a terrific coffehouse across the street, and the Deuce bus is right outside the door.

I normally don't carry much cash when I travel, and rely on credit/debit cards. The constant checking of my ID was a bit annoying. Ask a question at the members' desk, pull out your ID. Use a card in the restaurant, pull out your ID. Buy a drink on your debit card at the bar, pull out your ID. Buy something in the gift shop, pull out your ID. It got quite irritating.

First time I stayed here was Thanksgiving. Came back in April with my wife and met friends. This is a jewel. Not as crowded as the strip but just a comfortable. Gambling is good with loose slots. Their restaurants are very good. Rooms, we stayed in the Pavillion, are excellent. Fremont street is within walking distance and if you've never experienced Fremont street, you are missing a lot. We met our friends here as the had to leave their house in LA due to termites. Because downtown is not as crowded as the strip, we had a very enjoyable visit with them. Is it as "exciting" as the strip, no but it out shines the strip in many other ways. And the hotel was very clean, comfortable and a joy.

Room Tip: Noise does come up from Fremont street in the evening until about 1am. ask for a quiet room, they wi...

Stayed in Tower room on top floor after asking for a Strip View. (view was fantastic, you could see all the way down the Strip) Boy, was that a mistake! Music from Fremont St. started around 8 Pm from at least 3 to 4 bands playing the same time and went on till actually 2 AM. Stumbled down to Reception in the AM and they immediately transferred us to another Tower room on opposite side of hotel down a few floors and the difference was like night and day. Had two excellent quiet nites except for a little incident our last night. Had put in a wake-up call for 0345 as we had to take a very early morning flight back to Manchester NH. About 2 AM, a terrific lound noise filled the room and at first we thought it was the wake-up call. It was not and we quickly realized it was the fire alarm. We were on the 11th floor and quickly dressed for the long trek down the stairs. When we went into the hall, could see Security and a chap in a baseball cap who was apologizing profusely, " I am sorry, it was all a mistake". Security advised us it was ok to go back into our room. When we left at 0430, Security was still at the room along with several carts with clothing, etc. in them and a very bright light in the room. We initially thought they may possibly be making a movie but it turns out they were interrogating at least 2 girls and possibly others, one young girl was sitting outside in the hall. Don't know the final outcome but it looked like someone had "some splaining to do" as Ricky Ricardo used to say on the old I love Lucy Show.
As for our stay, we found it very enjoyable and took in the Elvis impersonater in the lounge and were not impressed by him. When you are a child of the 40's and 50's who saw Elvis when he first came on the scene in the late 50's, it is hard to watch these so called "impersonaters", the majority who were not even born when Elvis died, making their living by trying to impersonate him, and also many other deceased and living stars. My personal opinion is that Vegas is swamped with all the impersonaters, tribute artists, etc. all trading on other real artist's success. Some of the show fees for these acts are, in my opinion, very pricey. Enough of my rant on impersonaters and back to the El Cortez. I feel the hotel offers excellent value, especially in the Tower rooms and we would definitely stay there again. We found all the staff very obliging and even the short walk from the hotel to Fremont St. is very quick and you have no fear of meeting "unsavory" characters. And our stay included a Thursday and Friday night. Our stay mid April.

The casino has been updated and was fun to be in. The pavillion rooms are on the 5th floor above the parking structure. The pictures online show updated rooms with a flat screen TV but the actual TV is an old tube TV. There was a 1/2 inch gap all around the door where all the noise from Fremont St keeps you awake all night. The sheets were clean but had lots of moth holes in them. The customer service was good and all requests for extra coffee packets and cream were tended to promptly. The location above the parking garage was the best thing about this stay because you can access your vehicle quickly and you can see everything on that end of Fremont Street from just outside your front door because your room access was from outside.

No lines at check in. Complementary gifts, nice clean room and easy parking. Great prices and good gambling. The room was a little out dated but very clean and I slept great. I would definitely stay here again!

Stayed for five nights in mid April. Booked a vintage room and received a double upgrade to a tower room. The room was spacious and clean. While a bit dated, that is part of the charm of the El Cortez. Staff were friendly and maid service was good. Only challenge was the shutting down of portions of the casino over several nights for carpet cleaning. Food in the 24 hr dining room was very good and good value. I ordered a fruit plate and was enough to feed two. Dealers are generally recent immigrants and fresh out of dealer school and can be hit and miss. I'm not sure what the previous writer was sharing about the area. Fremont East is now a vibrant community and the walk from the Fremont St Experience is well lit and safe. The El Cortez provides excellent security surrounding the hotel and at both parkades. I will be staying at the El Cortex on my net visit to Vegas.
