An easy drive from Las Vegas, this is a beautiful area well worth a side trip. Budget 1-3 hours for the trip, depending how many stops for photos you make and how much traffic might be on the narrow road. There were "tortoise crossing" signs in many areas, but they are all hibernating now. Might slow you down in May-October...

It took us approx 45 mins to reach the park. Take las vegas blvd then left to charleston. Its worth the drive. Good place to hike. Go to visitor center first.

Red Rock Canyon is about 30 minutes from Las Vegas and a nice trip to take especially for pictures. Interesting rock formations of various colors. Once you get into the park ($7.00) you are on a one way road that is 13 miles long so you can't turn back. Not that you would really want to but it's good to know in advance.

Great as a little side trip. Very informative Visitor Centre. A nice short drive around the canyons. My husband enjoyed his walk down one of the trails. Great scenery and good value.

The red rocks against the desert with the snow dusted mountains were beautiful! For $7, you drive the one-way loop with lots of stops along the way. The visitor center is nice.
