“Once was enough”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

Light Show was really very nice but that is about all that I liked. Seemed like a different atmosphere & people than the strip. Glad I went, but I don't think I'll do it again.

“One big party”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

There were three stages with great rock music and choreography. Costumed characters were everywhere. Loved having people zipline over our heads as we watched the Fremont Street Experience. Best people watching ever!

“old vegas”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

I was planning on staying in the downtown at first, but later decided to stay in the Strip. The downtown is the old vegas...which means the stuff are old...it was interesting to see the old casinos and what vegas looked like in the past...but compared to the Strip not much to do...stayed there for an hour and went back to the Strip.

“Great Attraction”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

Downtown Vegas is a real tourist must see. The Fremont Experience has all kinds of music and street venders to amaze the visitor in the evening and into the nighttime hours. Don't miss the guy who paints fantastic pictures using cans of spray paint. You can never imagine his works are possible until you see him do it. The light show after dusk on the hour is worth the wait til dark to see. Try being in different locations for a different effect. One show - the first one while I was there - has 3 jet planes that fly from one end of the canopy to the other. It was amazing to see them fly overhead.

Cheap eats in Vegas are a thing of the past, but the Mermaids casino next to Binions has a little corner eatery where you can get Nathan's hot dogs, chocolate covered frozen bananas, or deep fried twinkies for only 99 cents each.

Word Of Warning: Walgreens drug store there is a rip off. They don't have flyers in the store but will match the price if you bring one in. I did not take a flyer with me and last week, I bought a 24 bottle case of water there and paid $7.99 and it was on sale in the flyer for $3.99. I also had to buy a box of Walgreens brand fabric bandages. Don't know how much it is in a regular store, but it was $4.99 there. A few other things I did look at seemed to be priced higher than at my local store.

Right behind Fremont Street is the California Hotel and Casino. Their prime rib dinner from 4pm is great. I like well done steak and have always had tender ones there. The price is $9.99 and soup or salad bar and dessert is included! A couple of casinos there offer prime rib dinner for $8.99 but no salad bar or dessert.

Most of the casinos and shops always have open doorways so they are all easily accessible for the handicapped. There are no benches anywhere to sit on so you will have to go into a casino for a seat. Everything is spaced within a few blocks which is almost the size of some casino properties on The Strip. This smaller size makes it very easy for the elderly to get around. Restrooms are generally in the back of the casinos there. Everything is on ground level- no stairs except in some gift shops.

If you do one thing before you die... this is it. It was the most amazing treat I have ever eaten.. so amazing I'm considering buying a deep fryer and some twinkies and giving it a go.
