“Tahoe's Best”
Reviewed August 12, 2007

My family and I live near Sacramento and all of us or sometimes my wife and her friends stay at this hotel. The Hyatt at Incline Village is near perfect. It is at a great location on certainly one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. The hotel is not stuffy like some upscale places. There are a few places to eat, a private beach, a smaller but fantastic casino, year-round heated outdoor pool, spa.. All the things that make a place a great place to stay. This is THE best place to stay in Tahoe by far. It might cost a little more but it is well worth it. A true resort but still close enough to South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe City to keep you busy. If someone is not happy with their stay here they would not be happy anywhere else in the Lake Tahoe area.

Ari Onaissas, billionaire husband of Jackie Kennedy would buy residences near his favorite public beaches in Greece so he could change into his swim trunks in a private setting. Otherwise the homes would sit quietly unused until the billionaire owner needed a day at the beach. Lake Tahoe perhaps has more than its share of private beaches than Greece, but in Incline Village you must be a resident or their guest to gain access to the two public beaches available. So view Hyatt Regency as your access to the best private beach at Incline Village. The price of the hotel will make you feel like a billionaire as well. The beach and floating dock are great as well as the supporting staff at the beach. However, the $10 umbrella drinks were poor and well watered down and took 30 minutes to arrive. The hotel is nice, but at $400/night I feel I should have Onaissas pocketbook for assistance. Check in was off to a rough start with a pimple faced young man who was more aggressive than understanding. I just asked a question about upgrading the room...
If you have kids(we didn't) this is a great place to wear them out. Camp Hyatt was visible outside our window (no balconey--front desk wanted another $50/night). All types of activities are available for the youngsters and believe me I grew tired just watching them. We liked the low key aspect of the Casino. Didn't eat at any of the restaurants, but will hightly recommend Austin across the street---great salads and martinis--outside seating preferred. Room was clean. Best thing was the fragrance in the room--wonderful herbal scent. Bed was very comfortable and no back ache after two nights. Great lobby area to sit and people watch. But all the amenities that SHOULD come with a $400 night hotel just are not there. No access to spa for sauna unless you pay. Valet parking extra. The $20/night resort fee basically gets you a 50 cent bottle of H2O. The champagne welcome (1 glass of Boone's Farm ) at 1:30PM gave us both a headache. No noise in the room except when the rug rats escaped their rooms and Mom or Dad had to recapture. Shower very ordinary. Bath amenities very nice.
We love Lake Tahoe. I have stayed several places along the Lake and prefer Incline Village above all others. There is nothing wrong with feeling like Ari Onaissas for a weekend. I will take a siff drink before opening the American Express statement next month.

The only thing going for this hotel is its location. Rooms are tired...need major refurbishment. Checked into room on so called Club Level Floor, which was a joke. No concierge on this level, minimal a.c., not enough seating. Room had 1 bar of soap; when housekeeping was called to request more soap, two containers of Dawn dishwashing detergent were delivered. Walls and carpeting were dirty. Pipes in bathroom were exposed (broken). Grounds on lake were beautiful; looking at lake and mts were spectacular, but that's the only thing this hotel has going for it. Air conditioning was inadequate, plus our windows did not open. Hotel needs to be closed and redone.
Food in restaurants was poor.

I have stayed at this hotel multiple times and always find myself going back. Location is stunning and the service is absolutely amazing - we were given a free bottle of champagne upon arrival last time. The staff are all excellent and are genuine in wanting to help. Yes, the casino is a little on the small side, but I prefer this to the larger casinos like Caesars or Horizon, which are very impersonal. Food is always excellent, especially at the lone eagle grill. And the outside seating area with the fireplace is a lovely touch. I would recommend this place to anyone - and how anyone could say a bad word about it is beyond me.
Put simply, and I have traveled extensively, this is my favorite hotel that I have ever stayed in.

My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt Incline July 26-30. We were on the 8th floor facing the mountains and were above the vent system so we could smell breakfast food cooking in the mornings, though it wasn't too noticeable.Other guests who were on the fourth floor told us that the food cooking smell was very strong. But, I like having windows that open and that was a great plus to get the wonderful fresh air into the room. The bed, linens and towels were very good. Bathroom and housekeeping were good except for a room scent that seemed to be a carpet deodorizer/cleaner. The deodorizer smell was overpowering for two days and finally seemed to dissipate after we left the window open all day and night. The carpet cleaner/deodorizer scent caused me to get a slight headache the first day or so. It is possible the scent was from a pest control (insect) treatment.
Hotel staff were very helpful. We self-parked our car in the parking lot and had no problems walking back and forth to the hotel.
The best part is the private beach. The kayak rental was excellent and we had a terrific time kayaking along the shoreline and admiring the beautiful lakefront estates.
We had lunch at the Lone Eagle and it was very good and reasonably priced for such a great setting (patio facing lake views). Tennis is available at a nearby city recreation center within walking distance from the Hyatt.
I would like to make a return visit, but I would need a room without the carpet deodorizer smell.

My partner and I live in San Francisco, so sticker shock was not a problem for us. I noticed several reviews here balking at the price of the rooms, but you can spend far more in big cities or in Vegas, and you would never get the beautiful Tahoe experience at all.

We booked our room through American Express, and when we checked in we were given a complimentary upgrade to an Executive King room, which was very nice. The bed was incredible: pillow-top mattress, down pillows and duvets. The only thing a little odd was that sheets weren't as nice as the rest of the bed. But hey, this bed was still among the best I have slept in at a hotel in a long time.

The private beach is wonderful. We rented Jet Skis and had a blast. The drink service on the beach is amazing and they have a beach front snack bar as well as a bar floating on the pier. We had dinner at the Lone Eagle Grille, located right on the Lake, and had a great meal. The bus people cleared our table while we were having cigarettes and took our decanted Caymus cab. The server and wine steward were very apologetic, got the wine back, and even went so far as to bring us desert wine and a free desert. Fantastic service.

The casino here is small, but it was fun. The focus here is definitely not the casino. But it was nice to have it there at nighttime. The Spa is a good spa but not a great spa. The pools and whirlpools were terrific. In all, this was a great place to spend a long weekend and to rejuvenate after months of being cooped up in a city.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at the Hyatt! The service is excellent. This is one of the few hotels we've been to where the employees seem to actually like their jobs. The room we were originally assigned to was in the original building. We had previously stayed in the newer 3 story addition wing, and loved it because it has patios/terraces. The original building does not have rooms with terraces, but our request for the terraced room was quickly granted. It made a great difference because the room seemed bigger, and by opening the french sliding door, you can take in more of that fresh Lake Tahoe air. My 7 year old daughter enjoyed the Camp Hyatt activities including making smores by campfire, swimming, painting a planter, playing video games, hiking, etc. The pool and spas were just the right temp. We were pamperd by the Hyatt staff, who set up umbrellas and lounge chairs where we requested by the lake. My only complaint is about the expense. We paid $355 per night for the room, plus a resort fee. And Camp Hyatt is $75 each day or evening session. Still, we left feeling very relaxed, and will return next summer.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A spectacular setting on Lake Tahoe’s north shore with 500 feet of private, lakefront beach. Surrounded by towering pines and mountain greenery; 35 miles to Reno/Tahoe Int’l Airport; 40 miles to South Lake Tahoe Airport. Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino was recreated in the classic style of a 1920s alpine grand lodge. Exterior renovations of river rock and shingles complement the natural environment with colors echoing the tradition and sense of history of the original homes built in the Tahoe area. Extensive river rock landscaping and two outdoor fireplaces add to the guests' sense of arrival at the "Old Tahoe-Lodge" style entrance. The resort's Grand Lobby boasts crafted stonework, creating a cozy setting amid the warmth of an oversized double-sided fireplace, rich leather chairs and high-beam ceilings. The 421 guestrooms, including 24 lakeside cottages, have been decorated with natural pine, distressed wood, and leather furnishings, reflecting the setting with autumn colors of moss, brick red and wheat. Included in our Lake Tahoe resort's $60 million transformation was the addition of the Spa Terrace, a new three-story wing adjacent to the main 12-story hotel. Offering 138 luxury guestrooms with views of the Sierra Nevada skyline, the addition provides visitors with private balconies and breathtaking lake views. The Spa Terrace replaces the resort's former Aspen Terrace and overlooks the resort's new swimming pools. ... more   less
