“A Beautiful Break”
Reviewed October 22, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

I enjoy Hyatt properties and have generally found them well maintained and managed. Its Lake Tahoe Resort is, even for this brand, superior. We spent an extended weekend in its lovely beach front cottage and although expensive enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The spa is wonderful and the staff professional and very competent. But the highlight for us was the Hyatt hotel staff ~ throughout our stay, from wait-staff to housekeeping, each employee was friendly, outgoing, thoroughly professional and very highly trained. They made our stay excellent and as memorable as the exquisite scenery.

We spent three nights at the Hyatt Regency in Incline Village in mid October. Mid October is "off season" for the hotel. We very much enjoyed the stay and have very few suggestions for improvement.

We had a room on the 10th floor, the farthest down the hall, and closest to the lake. There was an exit stairs between our room and the next room so we had no chance of noise from another room. The whole hotel had been renovated a few years back (we were told) and the room was very well done. A couple of things which were very much appreciated are as follows. At the bottom of each night stand was a small light with a motion sensor. So if you got up in the middle of the night, it sensed your movement and the light went on. The light was low and not too bright so it was enough to see where you were going, but not bright enough to disturb your partner. Also, in the bathroom, when you turned off the lights, one light stayed on below the mirror, which served very well as a night light. It was enough to see but not so bright to disturb your sleep.

The bathroom was clean and modern, with a double shower along one wall (no tub - hurrah). There was a shelf by each shower head to hold shampoo and soap, and the floor was textured to prevent slips. They provided lots of amenities (soap, shampoo, body lotion, etc,) all of which was appreciated by my wife.

The bed was large and comfortable, although the pillows were a bit hard (but my wife likes hard pillows).

The WiFi access in the room was terrific. Really fast access, perhaps the fastest WiFi I've ever experienced in a hotel. Thank you, Hyatt. On the negative side, the access in the restaurant was not so good, Quite a bit slower.

The room was large and there was a very comfortable window seat on one end of the room. All-in-all, a very comfortable room.

The staff was very good. The parking valet (Jason) noticed we had golf clubs and he gave us the rundown on all the courses in the area. We played two courses and his recommendations were right on.

The front office staff was the usual welcoming people, what you'd expect at a Hyatt. The staff in the restaurant, store and golf shop was very nice and helpful.

We ate dinner at their Lone Eagle Grill the last night. Very good food and service, but I was upset because we had requested a table by the window so we could watch the sunset but they did not honor our request. If I had only made the request one time, I wouldn't have been so upset but I made the request three times because it was our anniversary. And we showed up early for our reservation.

One other thing I'd like to comment on was that Hyatt has really embraced the Internet. We could check in on line, they sent us an email when our room was ready (how about a text instead?) and they sent us a copy of the statement to our email address.

Oh, one final thing. The Hyatt is in Nevada and has a casino. But unlike Las Vegas, you don't have to walk through the casino to check in, or to enter and leave the hotel. They allow smoking in the casino but I think the hotel is non-smoking. But when you walk into the casino, it does not reek of smoke and does not have the smoke haze like the casinos in Las Vegas have. I assume they have very good ventilation in the casino.

All-in-all, one of the nicest hotels we've experienced anywhere.

This is truly as good as it gets! We loved every minute of our four day stay at the Hyatt while in town for a family wedding. We booked online easily with the hotel and received reminders before our check in, as well as information about the hotel.

We arrived way early for check in - around 11am. They had a handicapped room available and we decided to take it because we were tired after being up flying for hours from back east.

The staff here are great. We were helped by an awesome concierge - Carl I think? He had a lot of great recommendations! The valets were also awesome. They greeted us by name and were so helpful!

Our room was the bomb. Yep I'm pulling out the 90s lingo for this one. It was a bit bigger than the usual due to being ADA compliant. We had a huge window seat, big bed, desk, chair, large TV, huge bathroom and a great view! We could see the mountains and pool area, and if we looked to the side we could catch glimpses of the lake. The bed was SO comfortable and we slept like hibernating bears with the blackout curtains and being at the end of the hallway.

We didn't eat here, though we did go to the saloon (bar). We were taken care of there and watched the Cardinals game on the big screens. They are renovating the saloon so it was a bit out of sorts but fine.

We ventured into the casino a few times - not my favorite. The whole hotel is smoke free except for here. Yuck - they even allow cigar smoke. I hate smoke, especially cigars, so I just avoided the casino for the most part.

We went to a wedding at the Hyatt along with a reception at the Lone Eagle Grill ballroom. It was fabulous! Gorgeous views and every detail taken care of.

The whole experience was just wonderful. We'd definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the Hyatt in August '13. It was great. We were in the terrace section, with a balcony. The rooms had been totally remodeled since our last stay and were extremely comfortable and clean. As busy as the resort was (full to capacity), service was excellent. We only had the breakfast buffet in the hotel as it was included with our AMEX stay, but it was very good. I look forward to staying at this beautiful resort again in the future!

If you want a beautiful mountain hotel, this is it. Nestled near the lake, this Hyatt looks and acts family owned. I highly recommend staying in the presidential suite. Lake views, mountain views, and oh so beautifully decorated. The staff is very inviting and friendly. There is much to do nearby and the hotel grounds are expensive, allowing ample meeting space, dining opportunities, and recreation. Highly recommend!

Room Tip: Presidential suite is stunning!

The Hyatt underwent a makeover about a year ago. This is the first time we've stayed in the main hotel building, so we can't compare it to how it used to be - but it's really a beautiful property now.

So why not a five-star rating? First off, it began with the reservation process. There was a special advertised price that, when we attempted to book it, became a circus. First, we were told that there was no such price. Then, we were told that there was such a price available, but it was only for a couple of months rather than the six-month window in the ad. Finally, after writing to the main hotel address, the manager of reservations came back and said that yes, the special rate did exist, and yes, it did extend for all six months, but oh so sorry, the dates you want are not available.

I won't go through the rest of the story, but we ended up getting the dates we wanted after many phone calls and letters. This soured us on the process.

OK, you're asking - what's the bit about the nine-volt battery?

Picture this: it's four AM. Suddenly, a loud 'beep' sounds in the room. Half a minute later, another beep. Lights go on. Dazed travelers muddle out of a deep sleep. "What's that noise?"

Finally, it beeps again. It's the in-room smoke detector, telling us that its battery has run down.

Being resourceful, I disconnect the smoke detector and remove its battery, and unplug it from the power source. The #@(&^@ thing keeps beeping! Evidently it has a backup battery or a super capacitor that keeps powering the beep.

Maintenance is called. Maintenance guy arrives (very quickly). Removes detector, saying they'll replace it the next day.

They never do. The next night (our last) we sleep without a smoke detector, putting our lives in peril (not really, but it sounds more dramatic that way. I'm sure if there was a fire, the other systems would pick it up.)

So, broken sleep and insane reservation process remove a star. Other than that, the hotel is really nice, with good service people and a beautful setting.

Just don't forget your 9-volt battery.

Room Tip: There's a new section overlooking the pool area that has only three levels. Try a '300'...

A spectacular setting on Lake Tahoe’s north shore with 500 feet of private, lakefront beach. Surrounded by towering pines and mountain greenery; 35 miles to Reno/Tahoe Int’l Airport; 40 miles to South Lake Tahoe Airport. Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino was recreated in the classic style of a 1920s alpine grand lodge. Exterior renovations of river rock and shingles complement the natural environment with colors echoing the tradition and sense of history of the original homes built in the Tahoe area. Extensive river rock landscaping and two outdoor fireplaces add to the guests' sense of arrival at the "Old Tahoe-Lodge" style entrance. The resort's Grand Lobby boasts crafted stonework, creating a cozy setting amid the warmth of an oversized double-sided fireplace, rich leather chairs and high-beam ceilings. The 421 guestrooms, including 24 lakeside cottages, have been decorated with natural pine, distressed wood, and leather furnishings, reflecting the setting with autumn colors of moss, brick red and wheat. Included in our Lake Tahoe resort's $60 million transformation was the addition of the Spa Terrace, a new three-story wing adjacent to the main 12-story hotel. Offering 138 luxury guestrooms with views of the Sierra Nevada skyline, the addition provides visitors with private balconies and breathtaking lake views. The Spa Terrace replaces the resort's former Aspen Terrace and overlooks the resort's new swimming pools. ... more   less
