“A Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2013

We love coming to this hotel, after being on the strip a few times this hotel is a great alternative choice. The rooms are immaculate and the staff are always welcoming and friendly. Opposite the hotel is a very large shopping centre (the Galleria) with a great range of shops. Also to the side is a very large Walmart and as a Brit I love shopping in here. Its location is also very good for driving to the premium outlets that are scattered about through Henderson and Vegas.
Husband loves this casino as its never jam packed and he is able to get on the tables. Inside the hotel there are great places to eat and a Starbucks which was the start of our day. This place really is a jewel and Id highly recommend it if you fancy a change from staying on the strip.

This is apparently where the locals go so supposedly the payouts are better, the food prices are better, etc. We were traveling through the Vegas area on a cross country road trip with our dogs, so avoided the strip this time around (no nice clothes, too much hassle with the dogs, etc.). We went to Sunset on a whim.

It is exactly what you would expect from a "locals" casino on a random weekday evening. There was a lot of smoke, a lot of people who looked as if they should probably not be wasting their limited income on slot machines, etc. The cocktail waitresses also were obviously the waitresses who could not get hired on the strip. Just overall an "uck" factor here.

That said, we actually won a little money and had some fun killing about an hour. If you just want to gamble and have slightly better odds - and you don't care about the atmosphere - this may be the place for you. If you enjoy the nicer, higher end mega casinos on the strip you will not enjoy this place.

We did not stay at the hotel.

PROs
--------
Location.

Plenty of shopping in the immediate area. There's a mall, Target, Walmart and numerous restaurants and retail establishments surrounding the hotel/casino

Rooms are nice and furnished well

Casino machines are mostly the latest and greatest

Buffet is affordable and has decent selection

Movie theatre and bowling on site

Front desk personnel were courteous

=====================

Cons
-------
Casino is somewhat of a walk to the hotel room

Had issues with room key not being able to unlock door. During our 2 night stay, we had to make 5 separate trips to the front desk to have our room key reprogrammed. Extremely annoying as its a bit of a walk from the room to the front desk.

Bad/slow service at the Mexican food takeout, as i had to wait for a while for my food. It wasn't until I stood up and leaned over the counter to find out what was taking so long did someone finally get my order started. It wasn't busy as I was the only one there at the start. To top it off, they got my order wrong. Since i waited too long I was in no mood to have my order corrected.

We stayed here from the 3rd thru the 10th December, this is also the fifth time we have stayed here, we always have a car because we like to go out to other Station Casinos in the evening and always make one trip to the Strip for old times sake! I cannot praise this Hotel and Casino enough, in every respect, no crowds, all the staff are so pleasant , the food in the oyster bar and the Italian are just so so good at extremely reasonable prices, although I use my points to eat and our Suite was comped for the entire week. Everything is always so clean and we have absolutely no complaints whatsoever, also I might add I did win quite a considerable amount on the video poker this trip which was of course a bonus. We are so over the Strip hotels, you get ripped off with the drinks, people everywhere are drunk and of course the machines are much tighter and so so crowded ! Been their, done that! No more we will stick with Sunset Station, just love the place.

We Only stayed one night, but were very happy with this establishment. We arrived late after a long day flight and the check in was quick and easy. Room was upgrade to a suite which made it sad we were not staying longer. Everything was arranged nicely, Water hot when needed, no problems, good security. Only wish the entrance to the hotel part was at street level and did not have to take bags up stairs without a ramp.

We were in town for an event and unfortunately our original hotel was hideous. We moved to the Sunset last minute and we were greeted with a clean and lovely room. (We splurged for the upgrade...worth every penny!) Our suite had gorgeous views, large comfy sofas, an enormous master bath and two flat screen TVs. We were greeted with a cheese and fruit tray on arrival. WOW! I highly recommend you explore the Sunset when staying in Henderson. It is so close to great shopping, athletic fields and only about 15 minutes from the airport. Tip-- the hotel and Casino website has various package deals that are worth checking out before checking in.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the King Suite!

We booked this hotel to get off the Strip and were very pleased with all aspects. I booked directly through their website and they sent me multiple updates with confirmation prior to arrival. Check-in was a breeze and we were given a room on the 21st floor (top floor). We had a view to the west and could see the hotels of the Las Vegas strip in the distance. We stayed two nights and spent the first visiting Cabo the Mexican restaurant (delicious!), strolling around the casino floor and listening to live music. The hotel has a nice location near all major restaurants, stores and attractions. It is about 12 minutes to the strip (with no major traffic), 20-25 minutes to the Hoover Dam and 35 minutes to Red Rock Canyon. We are very pleased with our stay and would come back if ever in Las Vegas again!
