Green Valley Ranch Resort and Spa
Ranked #7 of 26 Hotels in Henderson
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 15, 2007

OVERVIEW: as with all of my reviews, I rate the property to similar area facilities not class of hotel in one area vs. same class in another area.

Located in Henderson Nevada, just a 10-minute drive from the airport. Car will be cheaper then the $50 taxi ride. Rent car costs are about the same for a two-day stay. Hotel appears to have been constructed in the last few years. Property consists of two large 5 (?) story buildings. Facilities on property consist of 6 theaters, many restaurants, Whisky Discotheque, pool area and spa. Property design is Mediterranean, with the theme flowing to the pool/spa area as well as rooms, public areas (except Whisky) casino and some restaurants. A small shopping center with two or three restaurants are just outside the door. Very up scale. REI one of the key stores.

THE GOOD: Easy to find from the airport and the wait for the car is probably less then a taxi. No mob scene at the driveway. Valet service is excellent. Never waited for the car to be delivered to the door. Accidentally left a camera in the car. Still there next day! Lobby and public areas are wonderfully decorated in a Mediterranean style. Check in was rapid as there is no crowd. Free coffee in lobby for early risers.

The Pancake Rest. Go early as there will be a line. Although we did not attend, I will vouch for the Whisky Bar. It is really cool looking and you can sit outside. Pool area is fantastic. Many venues to choose from: main pool, cabanas, adult, small beach area hot tubs and first rate pool service. Pool restaurant food was excellent, as were the drinks. Lots of great large couches to lounge on in open, sunny or shaded areas. Great design on the landscape and pool. Security on site, keeps out interlopers. Spa adjoins pool area and the landscaping around the spa is in keeping with the Med. theme with a small vineyard. Did not use the spa. Best in room snacks in any hotel…ever.

THE BAD: Much has been written about the infamous noise at the Whisky. We requested a room away from the bar area and got a parking lot view. A few cars going up the ramp woke us up but not major noise. The T.V. is old school, probably 25”s and had lousy reception. Shower area in bath had a few tiles missing. Speaker in bathroom from t.v. twice as loud as tv. Finally found the off switch. The restaurant that is the Hotel’s coffee shop etc should not be considered as a palatable source of food. They do have great tap beer though.

THE UGLY: The design of the casino and restaurants is an open concept. This means that smoke from cigarettes is everywhere but does not go to the rooms (not in Pancake House either). Arrived on Sat night to full house. Lot’s of day gamblers arrived and they know how to smoke!!!! I was overwhelmed by the smoke. It flows to most of the restaurants and down the hallways towards convention rooms. Smoke from the Whisky bar flows into the lobby area. If you are sensitive to smoke pass on this hotel.

OVERVIEW: Understanding that Las Vegas is smoker’s nirvana, if you can get by the smoke and a few little things this hotel is a great value. Pool area and service were fantastic. Just getting away from the crowds is great. Lines in the restaurants are much shorter and the crowds other then Sat night / Sun p.m. are pretty thin. Great décor. Prices are much cheaper then the strip.

Las Vegas: Green Valley Ranch Resort and Spa:
"Great Hotel"
Date: July 15-23, 2007
Reviewer: A2 (AB/AR), Toronto Canada
We just returned from a great week in Las Vegas away from the hustle and bustle of the strip. If you want pure comfort, fun and luxury (and for those who are inclined gambling, as you are in Vegas and really can't get away from a slot machine) than the Green Valley Ranch(GVR) is the place to stay.
The rooms are lovely and spacious. We didn't think that we would really care about the 300 thread count of the sheets but we did notice it each night as we laid our heads and tired bodies to rest, usally past midnight. This place gets busy during the Thursday to Sunday stretch, while the rest of the week is quieter.
"The Pool" where the 20 and 30 somethings hang out has this very cool south beach loungy feel with it's own pool area, misting stations (to combat the 104F temps) and bar while the main pool area looked like a fun place for families with kids due to the sand in the shallow end.
The club wasn't bad . It appears to attract both locals and guests from the hotel. The music could have been more up to date dance and r&b (Micheal Jackson is so out no matter who did the re-mix) and to much repetition from one night to the next.
The gym facilities where really great, with new modern equipement and a lovely view of the spa pool. For a person who regularlly goes to the gym this was a nice reprieve from the big American Meals!
Staff where very pleasant and helpful in organzing our grand canyon helicopter tour.
The strip was only about 20 minutes by taxi ($25US).
The hotel has a food court and a movie theater at the end of the casino area as well as The District which has some nice restaurants and shops. There is even a Whole Foods store in walking distance.
Overall I would definitely stay the the GVR again without a doubt.

People rave about the Bellagio, the Wynn and the other 5 stars on the strip, but they clearly havent driven 10 minutes away from the city to Hendersen. GVR is a fantastic hotel, and the casino, although not the biggest, is plush, clean and best of all not rammed with tourists getting drunk. The rooms are tastefully done in what I imagine is turn of the centruy style furnishings. We were on a ground floor room near reception, and it was so quiet despite my immediate thinking that due to the location it would be noisy with traffic. The outside pool area is something you would see in a glossy magazine, loungers, bridges, a bar, and some of the best distant views of the strip sparkling in the distant. The staff must be some of the best trained and friendliest in Nevada. If you can pull yourself away from the strip - even for one night, come here!

We stayed Mon-Wed, the slowest days of the week, and we were very pleased with the experience. We booked one of the Cabanas for Tuesday ($150) before we arrived, which may have helped us get the room upgrade to a room with a balcony. It was hot, being June, and our day at the pool was mostly a pleasant experience. The Cabanas are tightly packed, and would clearly not be a relaxing experience on the weekend. There were only a few Cabanas in use when we were there, so it was quite private and luxurious.

The lunch buffet is good, the breakfast buffet, less good. The Grand Cafe is GREAT food, open 24 hours, and reasonably priced.

We never made it to the Spa, but we will be back.

We just came back fromour stay at GVR and must admit it is a very nice property with a lot going for it. Guess it just depends how old or young at heart you are. The rooms are a nice sice with a large bathroom, hot water we found out might take a while. turn down service only happend on the last night and if you run short on supplies for the room you better ask for it may not be replaced. good response if you call though. The music is at a younger level, r&b rap, etc and it will continue all day by the poolarea and the private pool area until about 11pm. so if you like your nap or are earlybirds or simply do not like a lot of bass rattling your windows until that time avoid the east wing for sure. liked the spa area and a good steam. lots of cigarette butts in various places since people cannot find convinient ashtrays. had dinner at Il fornaio, a group of 30 and it was excellent. So a mixed bag and i expected a little better quality for the amount charged so next time might be closer to down town.

My husband and I went to the Green Valley for our anniversary and to attend a concert over Memorial Day weekend and had a great time. The hotel and service is top notch, and the District next door (shops and restaurants) is great. This is a great place to stay if you want to have a lot of activity (shopping, restaurants, great dining, concert, casino) but don't want the hecticness of the Vegas Strip. There was no reason to leave - great pool, great grounds, restaurants. We especially liked Lucille's Barbecue in the District and the Tides Oyster Bar at the Green Valley.

The architecture, grounds, landscaping of the Green Valley Ranch Resort is utterly beautiful. Has a magical Spanish hacienda aesthetic to it. Very roomy and airy as well.

The pool/outdoor lounge/spa area is relaxing and family-friendly. There is sand for the kiddies to play, which leads to the shallow end of the pool, but isn't deep or serious enough for big teens & adults who want to swim laps.

The Randy Gerber-designed bar area was intimate but too contemporary & modern-chic for a Spanish hacienda-styled hotel.

The buffet food was great, BUT be warned, the bathrooms are not even in the dining area. You have to walk out of the dining area, pass the casino, find the sushi restaurant, and it'll be to the left of it.

Who thought of that?!
