“Unique find in eastern Nevada”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2014

Way out on the loneliest road in the US, we found an oasis! This hotel has everything: themed rooms that are clean and quiet, more than ample food portions that are tasty and satisfying and entertainment that just seemed to belong in a dusty western cowboy town! We were most appreciative of the friendliness after traveling so far without a human in sight!

Very clean hotel, comfortable. Steak was tough in café and service was slow and not very attentive to needs. Breakfast has always been good but again service wasn't the best. overall the hotel is a nice value for the price.

Pleasantly surprised at how nice the newly renovated rooms were. Extra large TV and a bar counter with sink made the room seem special. Friendly staff and an decent restaurant that serves large meals. Casino is a little smokey. All in all it was a pleasant stay. Also noted that the walk-in price was lower then any internet price.

Room Tip: Best bet in Ely.

Since under new ownership this Summer 2013 the property has gone extremely downhill. There no longer is the RV park/closed/the room service menu has tripled in price with a basic hamburger over 10$ /the meal prices were so high the entire time we were there we went to other restaurants in town and brought food in. Previously with old owners for years we ordered regularly from the room service menu. We were so disappointed not in the quality of the food but the extremely high prices/some items $22 for a single person. We have not also had good service with the check-in staff/on last visit we were charged for 5 nights when we only had stayed 4 nights and so had to call manager to get our checking reimbursed/under old great management the VIP members were given a free night after staying per their VIP room club card stay 6 nights and the 7th night is free/so we used our old VIP card and were told the new management now says it is not based on consecutive nights stayed but each stay is counted as one night even if you are there 6 nights/which is not what the VIP Room club card shows. The worst for us was when we made a new reservation on 12/ 28/13 for week of January 6 and I was shocked to find on my Wells Fargo bank account a charge from the Prospector Hotel for 256$ the number of nights I had reserved! the clerk who I made the reservation with did not say anything about charging my debit card immediately. I have stayed in hotels all over the US and the world and given a credit card to hold an advance reservation but have never been charged prior to receiving the service. I called the hotel immediately when I discovered the bank charge and was told this was the policy of the new owners to charge credit cards immediately upon a reservation. So apparently they do this to accrue interest? When I asked what if the consumer cancels the reservation and was told the hotel would then reimburse the charge. I told the clerk the girl I made reservation with never informed me my debit card would immediately be charged the entire stay amount. The clerk I talked to said she should have told you and he would speak to her about it. We intend to report to the Better Business Bureau and make an inquiry with the Attorney General of Nevada whether this is legal. Both my husband and I are very disappointed with the new ownership methods/policies/etc. as have been regular customers for years but now have cancelled the January reservation and gone to a different motel in Ely. Jim and Susan A. PS the rooms are clean/ have refrigerator/large screen TV/microwave/an indoor pool/just a shame the new management is ruining it .

Room Tip: we had to put a towel under the door due to smoke coming from the casino/so if you are sensitive to...

The comments from this guest are full of inconsistencies. We have owned the property since 2008 and it is listed as the #2 best Hotel to stay in while visiting Ely. We would like to respond to each of the lady’s comments:
1. The R.V. Park is closed every year for the winter season due to freezing pipes. This has been our policy for the past 10 years.
2. The room service menu is the same as the regular menu. We charge a $2.50 delivery charge – very reasonable.
3. Our restaurant menu has been the same for at least 4 years.
4. Yes, we do have some menu items in the $20.00 range – Steak & Lobster, King Crab Legs, etc. We are proud to offer them on our menu.
5. If we charged for 5 nights when the lady only stayed for four nights, then we obviously made a mistake & we apologize.
6. With each stay, whether one night or five nights, the guest will get one credit. The seventh stay will be complimentary.
7. Yes, we do charge for the room when the reservation is made, as do most hotels.
8. The lady has stayed in hotels all over the country. We wonder how many of these hotels have offered a free room after 6 stays; a complimentary margarita; a free $3.00 pull on a Mega Bucks machine and a free newspaper.
9. It is ludicrous to suggest that our policy is based upon accruing interest. Commercial bank accounts do not accrue interest. Furthermore, the interest the banks now pay is totally insignificant to the bottom line.
10. Our rooms are all smoke free. Also, our “smoke eaters” in the Casino are very effective.

The “new” management, which has operated this property for 6 years, and has spent thousands of dollars improving all departments, is proud of what we have accomplished. We also realize we cannot please everyone!
We invite you to come and ask to see a room, view our menu, and perhaps stay with us!

I was hoping to spend the night in their RV park, but it was full. I had an early dinner (all-you-can-eat pot roast special for $12). Decided to check at the desk to see if a room was available at a reasonable rate. I was offered a king room for $70. The room far exceeded expectations. Quite large, loaded with amenities and attractively decorated. It was quite possibly the nicest room I stayed in on a 7 week road trip.
