We decided to stay here when driving through Ely just to have something different. The price was good, the room and everything clean and comfortable, although a bit small. They took our pet with no problem (something like a $10 charge, if I remember correctly). You do have to walk through the casino itself to get to your room. We stayed here with our daughter (7 years old) and had no issues. As others have mentioned, the old plumbing means inconsistent water temperatures -- just take a bath instead of a shower. Although there is smoking in the casino, I never smelled any smoke or had any noise up on the sixth floor of the hotel -- so that should not be a problem. If in Ely, I'd certainly stay here again rather than just going to some chain with no soul.

Room Tip: You have to request a non-smoking room and request a pet room if you have a pet.

This is an old hotel, so it has small rooms, but clean and comfortable. Water heater can be cantankerous. Cafe was very good, and had a decent variety. Staff was great. We visited Ely to ride the Nevada Northern Railroad, so the old hotel added to the experience. Its fun to see the names of politicians and film stars on the suite doors. Lots of history there. We had a great time.

While approaching Ely, we decided to do something different from our staying at the normal chain motels. We chose to stay at the Hotel Nevada and Gambling House. It is a building that was built in 1929 and has been in the same use ever since. The entire first floor is gambling and a restaurant. It is a smoking casino so we decided to dine elsewhere. There is one elevator that takes you up to the six floors. Our room was on the 4th floor which is non-smoking. The room was rather small and was fully taken up by a large queen bed and a too large dresser. There was only about 8 inches between the corner of the bed and the dresser for a person to squeeze thru. Could be a real problem in an emergency. The bathroom is quite small, but then this is an old building. There are notices posted warning of instant fluctuation in the water temperature in the shower/tub, but we did not experience that. The hotel and casino has been very tastefully restored to it's glory days. The bed was very comfortable but the big wooden frame creaked with any movement. All in all, this was a fun experience, breaking away from the everyday motel grind and trying something different. Would stay there again, but next time would ask for a room with a bit more room. On a side note, Ely, NV is one of the few towns left in the old west that still has listings for Brothels in the yellow pages. There are two (known) in town, but only one appeared to be open when we drove by to take a look. Yea, we only looked and took a picture!

We loved everything here! The friendly staff, friendly locals, the cafe and our nice away from home room! We are very sure we're coming back! We had some fun in the casino.

This is the nicest place we have seen for the age of almost 100 years old. Very antique and lots of cute decoration! Fun place to stop for one night!

Room Tip: Top floor for pretty view!

This hotel is the biggest place around and was build in the old days.
The corridors and elevator are a bit cramp but our room was fine.

There booking website didn't gave the opportunity to choose a room with two beds.
On arrival we were placed in a room with only one bed.
The woman at the desk helped us perfectly and gave us a free upgrade to the family room.

Only drawback is the smell of smoke on the groundfloor.
To get to the elevator you have to cross that floor.

This hotel has no pool.

Room was small and the plumbing was temperamental, but this is an historical hotel with a good vibe and a good price. Yes, I would stay again. I particularly enjoyed wandering the casino area to examine the various displays of western art, guns, and memorabilia. The in house restaurant served a great prime rib dinner for only $15, but a tasteless corn beef hash for breakfast.
Pros: comfortable bed, flat screen TV, free wi-fi, in-house restaurant and bar, price
Cons: outdated plumbing and small bathroom.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the higher floors to avoid casino and street noise.

We did not stay here, but did stop to visit and do some gambling. It's a pretty neat looking hotel and casino. Lots of animal heads hanging on the walls, rustic and pretty cool. Spent the afternoon gambling and had a great time. Friendly people too.
