“Worth it - once!”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

Have to try the Basque food - served family style. Go at 5 because it gets busy. Cabbage soup good - other foods a bit bland. Don't order an entree if you aren't a big eater. Entrees were good.

“Comfort Food in a Big Way”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

Hard to imagine how many tons of traditional Basque food have been dished up since the Star Hotel opened as a sheepherders' boarding house in 1910. Nothing flashy here...just yummy family style dining and a cultural experience that's hard to beat. Meals all start with homemade bread, bowls of soup and salad to share, then platters of green beans, cooked beans, spaghetti and potatoes. One tip for those with less than cowboy-sized appetites: It's fine for one person to order just the "sides" and share one of the ample servings of chicken, lamb, fish or steaks with a dining partner. In fact, this may be your only hope of saving room for the homemade desserts. Be sure to walk over to the Commercial Hotel and Casino after dinner to check out the 10' 4" tall Polar Bear and check out the hotel where Bing Crosby kept a private suite.

“Worth the trip”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

It's out on the east end of town, diagonally across the street from a "legal" brothel. Enter through a noisy and friendly bar full of guys in real cowboy hats. Photos on wall of miners from the early days. Food served family style, more than you can eat. We chose the lamb; really, really good. Also, the bread pudding is the best I ever had. The people at our table were actually from Nevada and talked about what's up at the top end of those mysterious long straight east-west roads.

“WOW”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

This is the best restaurant in all of Nevada! The steaks were huge and delicious, the quality of the beef was evident. Everything they served was good! The staff was friendly and we loved eating family style. You have to enter this restaurant hungry! We will be back.

“Best Basque Food & Drink”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

This place was recommended by motel clerk when asked for "a good meal and service". Star Hotel Restaurant services Basque food as good as in Spain was the answer! We arrived w/out reservations and told wait was 20-30 minutes...enough for a drink at the bar. Angie the bartender was friendly with a great personality which made the time go by fast. Had a really great time waiting for table. We ordered from the menu traditional Basque food, i.e., lamb and tons of extra food that came with it family style. Total bill was under $100 including all of the wine you could drink! Afterwards stopped at the bar with Angie and Scott the owner for a night cap. Got comps of special house drink...must place for a great time and meal. Tx Scott & Angie.
