I understand that the Tahoe area is ridiculously expensive on the weekends in general, but this hotel was way overpriced. We spent nearly $175 for one night simply because we couldn't find anything else cheaper in Tahoe. It's only about a 20 minute drive from either end of Lake Tahoe, so it worked for us in terms of location.

Complaints:
Bad smell outside the hotel. Not sure if it was from the laundry room or what. Swimming pool was ridiculously small. Once more than three people were swimming, you had no room to move. Also, for being an indoor "heated" pool, the water was really cold. Furniture in the rooms were nice, but the bathroom needed a lot of work. The fan didn't work and the shower and tub fixtures were very loose. The shower head hadn't been cleaned or replaced in forever and as a result only half of the water outlets sprayed water. The rest seemed to be blocked by calcium deposits and were just dripping.

Good Stuff:
The free breakfast was surprisingly good. Pancakes, bacon, eggs, juices, yogurt, fruit, french toast and more. It was serve yourself, but the quality was good. Beds were extremely comfortable and even though the A/C unit was old, it cooled the room perfectly. Free parking was nice since many Tahoe locations charge per night.

Dear unifiedac,

Thank you very much for your recent stay with us. We are very happy to read that our location was convenient and that you enjoyed our breakfast items and complimentary parking. On the other hand, it is regrettable that the indoor pool and bathroom conditions were a let down during your stay. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience these aspects have caused.

We provide service rates that are competitive in the area while simultaneously ensuring that our facilities are well maintained. As hospitality professionals, it is certainly not our intent to inconvenience our valued customers, but to instead provide good value, comfortable, clean and friendly accommodations. Please be assured that all comments are acted upon as this helps us gauge what we are doing right, and what we need to improve on. We look forward to another opportunity in serving you when you can enjoy all the amenities.

Kind Regards,

Stayed 2 nights here. Hotel was ok. Nothing to brag about, but nothing to really complain about either. It was perfect for sleeping and using as a "base camp". Lobby was beautiful and inviting. I'm used to HIE staff giving the impression they LOVE their jobs and are here to make my staff amazing, that was not the case. Nothing bad happened with the staff, however, they gave the feeling they were only behind that desk because it was their job to be, no greetings unless guests initiated, no interactions unless asked, etc. Breakfast food was average, packaged muffins, sausage, boring eggs, make your own pancakes, bananas. Single, small elevator seemed subpar for HIE. Again, nothing truly horrible, just weird compared to other hotels in this chain. We had to wait on more than one occasion for Housekeeping to load up their carts either in or out before we could use the elevator. As always, the king bed was very comfortable and the room spacious and clean. However, room was "stuffy" when we first opened the door, but we easily fixed that by opening the window for awhile. At 8:59 both mornings of our stay, we awoke to the sound of "Housekeeping, housekeeping" knocking on all doors around us. My recommendations to hotel management: 1. Install fans in bathroom 2. Do something about the "vent/duct" in the bathroom that appears to be a DIRECT microphone to the room next door's bathroom!! 3. Out the back door, at the bottom of the stairwell, either post a sign that alerts guests of the 2 inch 'dip' going in/out of the doors or construct some type of threshold (that is an accident waiting to happen) 4. Retrain Housekeeping to COMPLETELY check the mini fridge in the room, bend over and make sure it is truly empty between guests (as we were emptying out our food we found someone else's leftovers sitting on the top shelf, obviously been there for way too long….GROSS!!). The best part about this hotel is its proximity to OTHER cities!! We drove about a half hour to Reno for dinner. We drove about 30 minutes and spent the day in Virginia City (highly suggest!) and then after check out we drove approximately 30 minutes to Lake Tahoe. We honestly found nothing to do in Carson City itself. Due to the less than stellar stay (like we are used to with Holiday Inn Express) here, we will not be back….Reno or Tahoe will get our business next trip.

Room Tip: Not sure, we were toward the end of a hall, far from elevator, view of the parking lot….ehhhh, not much to go on there….

My husband and I were on the last night of our 2 week driving vacation, so we wanted something more than a standard hotel room. I told this to Meredith at the front desk and she offered us the Honeymoon Suite for a reasonable price. Having been married for 33 years, we had to laugh about that. It was a great room but a little absurd because it had a huge bathtub with jets right next to the bed. Everything else about the room was great - Four windows with views of the hills across the street, clean and comfy bed and bathroom, and great wi-fi. The price of the room was definately a good value.

Great room, super.clean and comfortable. I was passing tbrough but the hotel was so nice it was a big factor in deciding to stay an extra day in Carson. Breakfast was pretty comprehensive with something for everyone. Clearly some thought has been put into this and so it should be - but how often is breakfast a couple of bits of bread and whatever cereal is cheapest by the bushel at costco ?

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Carson City, NV last weekend with our family. The hotel is right on the main street. We were there for a wedding. The front desk agent was very helpful and gave us a Suite with a view. All rooms have refrigerators and microwaves. I enjoyed the full breakfast that included Oatmeal and Yogurt. Will stay again at this hotel.
